Well there had to be one...
Thought I might as well start it at Fennels suggestion.
You have all read enough from me how about you?

Mrs D - glad you are having a better day. My dd loves being outside too, she loves lying with her nappy off on a rug and looking around. It's very hot here today too, but I managed to choose today to go shopping in the city centre with a friend - far too muggy and dd got all hot and bothered in her sling.
still, I got some new clothes (all a size larger than last year, sigh, but I have to admit breastfeeding is once again keeping me chunky and ravenous - are others finding this?)

Metrobaby · 13/06/2004 01:12

yes fennel - i'm finding that bf is definately making me hungry. I also have between 2 stone and 1.5 stone to lose and am still not back in my normal clothes. I am trying to do about 20 mins of execercise a day but finding it v difficult to find the time

MrsDoolittle · 13/06/2004 01:52

I was thinking this myself. I was lead to believe that breast feeding causes the weight to drop off???
I do fit into the same clothes as last year, but I am looking very soft and squidgy!!

Mrs D- that's a myth they propogate to encourage people to bf, it's the opposite for me. I have 2 stone more than a year ago on my body including about 4 pounds I've put on in this last month. despite exercising several times a week and banning chocolate from the house - am off to circuit training (post-natal class) in a moment. baby gets to sit on the side. or join in if she cries, she likes to be lifted like a weight!

MrsDoolittle · 13/06/2004 13:21

Now I'm disappointed!
Anyway I have started swimming twice a week. My sister is getting married in September and I bought a gorgeous outfit. It's a snug fit at the moment I want to beautiful in it come September What are my chances?

I have bought a post-natal yoga video but haven't looked at it yet!

Fennel · 13/06/2004 19:30

Mrs D - some people lose weight quickly while bf, though not me.
To compound my feelings of large squidgyness it turns out the post-natal circuit trainer is a woman from my year at school - childless, my age (36) and exceeding ly fit and toned! Noone in the class can believe we are the same age - babies are ageing me! it's bizarre meeting someone from school (wiltshire) in Manchester after 18 years.

handlemecarefully · 13/06/2004 21:53

Fennel, aren't the people in your class rude to comment on the fact that they don't believe you are the same age! - they must also have impaired vision hence their mistake

Breast feeding has never made me loose weight either. The only thing which made me loose my 2 stone last time was running 3 miles 3 times per week and dieting severely (after finishing breast feeding at 12 weeks). Doubtless will have to do the same this time around. Gym membership is currently suspended but restarts on 1st August (when ds is old enough to be accepted into the gym creche) and weight loss project begins in earnest then. Its a pain being fat for summer.

Fennel · 13/06/2004 23:07

HMC do you think you'll breastfeed for longer this time? I am aiming to keep going fully til 6 months so am trying to not mind being fat for a good while yet.

dd3 doesn't like taking bottles. we got slack on giving her them every day so now she's not keen at all - anyone else finding this?

Metrobaby · 13/06/2004 23:21

ds takes a bottle 2-3 times a week. No probs so far but I have decided to express enough for at least 1 feed at day so that DH can do it. He actually moaned about doing it, saying HE was tired Grrr

HD - what's your video called? There's a thread on the Health section about doing your video exercise every day club

hewlettsdaughter · 14/06/2004 00:25

Hope you gave him what for Metrobaby! My video is called Simple Postnatal Yoga - I got it from the NCT online catalogue. I had noticed that thread listed under Active Conversations - think I may have commitment phobia though! You need to find the time and motivation to do these things don't you.
Fennel, I tried expressing in the week I was really struggling with breastfeeding (week 2 or thereabouts) - although dd took the bottle I didn't really get on with expressing (it took ages to get a pitiful amount). Haven't tried since.
MrsD, it was nice to see you today. DD woke up - finally - just as I set out on the school run. She has been colicky this evening although has conked out now.

hewlettsdaughter · 14/06/2004 00:29

Fennel - I have been meaning to ask - how is the breastfeeding going for you now? Does your dd still do the small mouth thing? My dd does, but I think my nipples are tougher...

Fennel · 14/06/2004 00:47

HD, the bf is going fine now, she still doesn't really gape but like you I've toughened up, it's only painful the days she feeds a lot (ie when ill) and then I get sore. how's it going for you now?

Metrobaby - my DP is supposed to give a daily bottle but has been out or busy a lot - teaching windsurfing til 10 tonight for example, so it hasn't happened as she won't take a bottle from me. 2 weeks ago she was fine with the bottles so I'm hoping we'll recapture the art.

Fennel · 14/06/2004 00:48

oh yes, DP keeps moaning he's tired too..

Metrobaby · 14/06/2004 01:28

btw - my ds is looking quite frighful at the moment. He's got a bad case of acne it looks like - dozens of red tiny spots (no pus in them), all over his cheeks. The skin has got dry and chapped in places. I think its due to the weather and him getting sweaty when he feeds under my boobs.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Soulfly · 14/06/2004 01:29

i was an april baby, lol.

handlemecarefully · 14/06/2004 01:29

Fennel,

Tricky - do I plan to continue breastfeeding longer this time ? Maybe.... I have to give up by September because we go on a 5 day trip to Rome without the kids in September... Also I'd like to drink to get tipsy now and then which isn't advisable when breastfeeding.....Plus the idea of ds going up to 4 hours between feeds (on formula) is highly seductive.....I actually really don't like breastfeeding so it wouldn't be a wrench to stop....Every week that I continue is a bonus
really.

Re giving bottles - ds won't take a bottle from me but will from my husband. Its a phenomenally slow process though. Giving maybe 3-5 bottles per week.

mears · 14/06/2004 03:23

HMC - yu can get tipsy when breastfeeding - ythat is an urban myth that you can't. Plus you can leave your baby for a length of time and resume B/F on your return. Ask Jasper - she went to Canada for a week

mears · 14/06/2004 03:25

Metrobaby - are you using any bath/shampoo products at bathtime. That can lead to horrendous spots. just use water alone and see what happens.

Fennel · 14/06/2004 12:27

HMC - Ikwym about it not being a wrench to stop bf! though it's going OK for me now it's not one of the things I'll miss about having a young baby. am really enjoying having dd3 and feel sad about moving on from the newborn stage but bf doesn't thrill me.

there is a recent thread about alcohol and bf which made me happy recently, I used to drink and feel a bit guilty while bf (thanks, NCT bf counsellor for telling us not to drink) but now am drinking without guilt! Thanks, mumsnet

bottles - dd3 will take maybe an ounce, last week and before would take 2-3 at best. am going to find some of those teats shaped like nipples (there's threads on those too - I don't know how I managed without mumsnet first time round!)

dolbear · 14/06/2004 16:40

hello everyone
sorry have not posted for a while
ithink ds has a little detecot that goes off whenever i am on the internet or want a cup of coffee , i go on line , read some and then he wakes up ! he is yelling blue murder now !

dolbear · 14/06/2004 17:15

ds not stop , so have rwesorted to 1 handed typing
ds wakes once a night now @ 3-4 am and settles
but 4 the 1st time onmon dh found me outside reading a book and ds inside sceaming , i had enough , screaming all day with a half hour break , so i walked away for my sanity !
have given up bf a week ago , was getting up every hour ! too much , don't care what the experts say

Metrobaby · 14/06/2004 22:32

mears the only thing I use is a few drops of baby oil and even then its only now and again. His poor cheeks look awful - all red with patchy scabby bits. There's also some on the side of his face and a bit on his chin. It seems to coinincide with the areas that touch my skin when I bf.

fennel - what are the the teats like/called and where can you get them from?

Fennel · 15/06/2004 12:48

Metrobaby, we bought Tommy Tippee ones which are sort of shaped like nipples - bumpy and a bit soft, they look weird but seem to have worked, DP has fed dd 4 times since yesterday morning with them, an ounce or two each time

I was looking for Playtex nurser teats which seemed to be suggested on the threads about taking a bottle but our local shop had the tommy tippe ones so we tried them first.

Fennel · 15/06/2004 12:56

Dolbear, does he stop cryimg eventually or just keep going? I hope he's being easier for you today. is he better if you take him out - my first 2 always cried less when out. with dd3 I think she doesn't cry much but my sister (mother of one baby) says I'm just not hearing her!
