Hi all,

I am hoping for some inspiration on what to get DS for his 2nd b'day. We aren't having a party this year so I do have extra cash to spend on gifts... I wanted to get him something along the lines of a trike bike. Any suggestions? Are these suitable for 2 yos? Any other ides would be welcome :)

TIA :)

One of the little tikes cars if you have some outdoor space? www.littletikes.co.uk

Also watching with interest

I'm thinking about a balance bike, some kind of train set, a mini pushchair, a trunki (we're going on holidays just afterwards). Need a long list as said birthday is just before Xmas and grandparents will also ask me what to get.

I've got DS1's first scooter hiding in the shed for DS2's 2nd birthday in January. Otherwise I'm going with Duplo in various forms.

Balance bikes are great - islabikes get amazing reviews if you have the cash, or otherwise my nephews love their puky bikes and I'm planning to get the same.

Thumbwitch · 19/09/2014 11:29

My Ds2's legs are too short for the balance bike as yet. In fact, Ds1's legs were too short when he was 3 (when we got it for him!)

I'm probably getting DS2 a toy garage (he loves cars!) and.. er.. I don't know what else.

For Christmas he and DS1 are getting a joint toy of an outdoor playhouse. :)

Hi all,

Thanks for all the suggestions - keep them coming :)
Also, can I ask where do you usually buy your toys from? I usually end up buying them from ELC. Any other recommendations?

:)

We just bought DGS 4 a mini micro scooter for his birthday and his sister 2.1 absolutely adores it.
We bought her a Cosy Coupe for her birthday and they both love that.

sharond101 · 19/09/2014 21:30

A skooter, a road rug and fisher price garage and cars. Loves them all.

sharond101 · 19/09/2014 21:31

And a wooden train set from GP's he also adores.

That's interesting thumb, dd has short little legs so hope she doesn't have the same problem.

Dp found a balance bike on the Argos website for 20 quid (it was on hot uk deals yesterday) but there were none in stock in our area.

The IKEA wooden play kitchen has been well played with by dd and her little friends - she got that for her second birthday. Its really robust and nice to look at Grin

I got DS1 a bike very similar to this www.elc.co.uk/on/demandware.store/Sites-ELCENGB-Site/default/mProduct-Show?pid=133270 when he turned 2. He still uses it now, aged 5 ( even though he's really a bit too big for it.) Definitely the best present I've ever bought, he (and my other DCs) have had so much use out of it.

DoTheStrand · 20/09/2014 11:37

We got DS2 a mini scooter for his 2nd birthday though he's only started going on it now (6 months later) as we had a helmet standoff. He also likes just carrying the scooter around. For his first birthday we got him a play mobile Noah's ark which he and his older brother (5) still play with a lot - I think it's really well made and the animals are nice and chunky.

TinyTear · 20/09/2014 11:39

Happy land, Mr potato head, a mini keyboard were things my dd got for her 2nd birthday

TinyTear · 20/09/2014 11:39

A kitchen was also good

Thumbwitch · 20/09/2014 13:43

MsBug - even if she can't manage it yet, she'll grow into it. :) But it might be worth measuring her inside leg and checking against the minimum size of the balance bike frame, I'm sure that different ones would be different sizes.

JammyGeorge · 20/09/2014 21:28

It's ds2's birthday next month. He's getting a wigwam play tent with cowboy outfit and a few Thomas bits.

For Christmas I've gone a bit mad and got a ride on tractor thing with trailer it's massive and totally too old for him.

Gp's are buying toot toot cars that I think he'll like.

Mind he loves duplo, we've got a few sets from ds1 that he's plays with regularly.

lostintoys · 21/09/2014 17:31

DS got a cardboard rocket like this www.therecyclewarehouse.com/Cardboard-Rocket
It was a HUGE hit with all children who came to the house. Eventually fell apart after a couple of years though.

Aciderwouldbenice · 21/09/2014 17:43

The plum snow drop kitchen with wooden food is going down a storm with my DS who turned 2 a couple of weeks ago, he plays with it for a couple of hours a day.
He is also enjoying his cash register from elc, the ice cream set from elc and a remote controlled dinosaur from a friend. He is also playing a lot with an easel, more the chalk board side, his dumper trucks (and a bag of conkers) and a tool kit from tesco, only £6ish.
We also used some of his savings to get him a trampoline recently, it is 8ft so should last many years and he loves going on there too.

Aciderwouldbenice · 21/09/2014 17:45

P.s morrisons had remote controlled cranes and happyland style rockets for £10 each last week. I am going back tomorrow to see if I can get some for Xmas, also asda have lots of nice toys 2 for £14.

thatsn0tmyname · 21/09/2014 17:48

We got our son a spiderman ride on motorbike from ToysRUs. It was £30 and has really chunky wheels. A year later he still loves it and it gets many admiring glances.

thatsn0tmyname · 21/09/2014 17:49

PS, if you do get a ride on a waterproof suit is a must as they're great in winter puddles

sofia31 · 22/09/2014 02:08

Wooden train set has been most popular, along with duplo. We will continue to add to both sets.
