Hi all,

I am hoping for some inspiration on what to get DS for his 2nd b'day. We aren't having a party this year so I do have extra cash to spend on gifts... I wanted to get him something along the lines of a trike bike. Any suggestions? Are these suitable for 2 yos? Any other ides would be welcome :)

TIA :)

Dd got mr potato head for her second birthday. Was a favourite for a long time.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the recommendations :)

Patience Can I ask a stupid question about the islabikes..... are they meant to not have pedals? DS is very tall for his age so I'm sure his legs would reach the ground...

right now I am trying to decide between a balance bike and a scooter....

can someone also suggest some kind of bag or luggage I can get for DS. We are going on a long haul flight in November and I am sure DS would like to carry his stuff in a small bag :)

Also, any idea where I can buy a slate for DS?

I'd go for the scooter - 3 wheeled mini micro are generally considered one of the best - my DD is nearly 5 and still loves hers (she got it for her 2nd birthday)

Scooter - it's less hassle to carry home/tow DC from the park
Balance bike - if you have a v large garden.

Im flirting with the large wheelybug. DD has the little one and still loves riding around on it. She has DD1's scooter and is tentatively starting to scoot indoors on it but I think she's 6 months from proper outings on it.

Re the bag - Trunki is fab. DD's love being towed through teh airport on it though our lanky 4 yr old has to stick her legs out in front now.
They are the perfect size for toys, books, ipad etc, several changes of clothing for the flight along with nappies, snacks etc.

With my nieces and nephews we use the balance bikes in the park only, it's hard to get speed in the back garden. Their puky ones have straps for carrying and are v light, not sure if islabikes are the same?

Also, their feet are meant to touch the ground - the idea is that they almost push themselves around like in a cosy coupe, but can get a surprising amount of speed and get used to the feeling of balancing, then when they are a few years older it is a cinch to get them straight onto a pedal bike without needing trainer wheels.

Our DS will prob have the bike and scooter eventually, they're quite different I think. Happy birthday shopping Smile

Ps to see how balance bikes work, there are lots of good videos on YouTube!

My 91st centile height ds has a puky balance bike which he fits fine and loves. He also loves his trunki suitcase.

MrsBungle · 23/09/2014 11:18

Oh and he got it for his 2nd birthday! We are getting him a toy garage from elc for Christmas. He also loves his ikea kitchen.

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 24/09/2014 21:08

My DS will be 2 soon, and between his birthday and Xmas we are looking at getting a mini micro scooter (prob for Xmas as he is a shorty!), a beanbag and night light/star projector for his bedroom, play doh bits, and more 'role play' stuff (he loves his kitchen!).

You need a Wheelybug in your life!

Best. Toy. Ever.
Bar. None.

Balance bike every time but a light weight metal one for 2 year olds - about £40 new. Decathlon do one and I think Halfords too.

This one is awesome - they whizz along and go straight to pedals at 3.5 onwards
