I want to get my daughter an ethnic baby born doll but I can't find one anywhere. Where would I get one?

Not controversial at all. Using the word "ethnic" to mean, I presume, "black" is just wrong.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 29/04/2014 22:54

Quite obviously the OP didn't realise 'ethnic' is the wrong word to use. She now knows so why not lay off?

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 29/04/2014 22:55

Sheesh, you try to do the right thing by buying a colouredly ethnic doll, and are the pc brigade happy? No! Tsk.

No, the op seems to think that black dolls are so controversial that there is no nice way to describe them!

Martorana · 29/04/2014 22:59

"Quite obviously the OP didn't realise 'ethnic' is the wrong word to use. She now knows so why not lay off?"
Because she doesn't. If she did she'd say" oh, is that the wrong terminology? I'll know next time". But she didn't. She said it was "controversial". Which it isn't.

To be fair, it's Toys R Us I'm surprised at- they are labelling the dolls as 'ethnic'. I'm surprised nobody in their marketing team has picked it up.

tethersend · 29/04/2014 23:04

Actually, it seems to be BabyBorn which labels the dolls as 'ethnic' Confused

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 29/04/2014 23:05

Toys r us are idiots? Hold the front page!

tethersend · 29/04/2014 23:30

It's a pretty glaring error, even for idiots.

It's labelled in the same way at Tesco, Argos and House of Fraser.

I'm even more staggered.

PrincessBabyCat · 30/04/2014 01:55

Will these ship to UK?

They're really popular here, high quality, and they come in every flavor. :)

Ok let's all get off our high horses ladies. Some people are getting a little worked up! Grab a cuppa and calm the hell down!! Hmm I was doing a good thing by introducing my daughter to different colours of humans to teach her that we are all the same inside. Some People on here just love to nag!!!

Martorana · 30/04/2014 18:40

Nobody's getting worked up. I think some people were just a bit surprised that your response wasn't "Shit- is that the wrong word? Thanks, guys- I'll remember for next time!"

MummaRumma · 30/04/2014 18:44

different colours of humans? Hmmmm

tethersend · 30/04/2014 18:52

I'm not sure if it's the casual racism or the abuse of the English language which annoys me more.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 30/04/2014 19:38

Would you like to pinpoint any posts or parts of posts which suggest that anyone is 'getting worked up'? You were told politely. I even applauded the general sentiment! Just don't say 'ethnic' when its not what you mean.

purplemurple1 · 30/04/2014 21:05

Me and my child are ethnic minorities and I do use the short hand ethnic sometimes because we all know what it means.

purplemurple1 · 30/04/2014 21:07

That said if have asked for Brown/coloured dolls - the pc terms are so hard to remember/learn.

ilovepowerhoop · 30/04/2014 21:25

you would have got into trouble for saying 'coloured' too!

Martorana · 30/04/2014 22:47

"- the pc terms are so hard to remember/learn." Only for people who don't want to/ the hard of thinking.......

mizzdanibaby89 · 30/04/2014 23:41

@TETHERSEND how dare u call me racist!!! If I was racist would I be buying my daughter a doll that's not "white" get a bloody grip and be careful throwing accusations about!

So what shall I say as opposed to white british? If I had said does anyone know where I will get a doll for my daughter... Who knows if the correct answer would have come up..... So would like to know how you all would have would have worded this post if I am looking for a doll that is a different colour from us white people?!?!

OP posts:
mizzdanibaby89 · 30/04/2014 23:42

"@TETHERSEND how dare u call me racist!!! If I was racist would I be buying my daughter a doll that's not "white" get a bloody grip and be careful throwing accusations about! "

Now who's getting worked up? I did not call you racist- read back and I mentioned that you were only repeating the title given to the doll by the manufacturer. It's their casual racism and abuse of the English language which pissed me off.

You hadn't really annoyed me at all until your last post.
