Do you bathe with your children? And if so until what age?

Just wondering! After a conversation with a friend, I was wondering what age people's children are when they stop having baths with their parents?

My friend said that she thought it was strange and "slightly wrong" that our other friend and her partner still have baths with their little boy, who is 2.8yo.

My DD is 8mo and the best part of the day is when I can get in the bath with her and have a splash around :)

Just wondering if many other parents do this, and what age did you stop?

It just stopped naturally, about 6 years.

we love bathing with our ds who is 3.4yo and have no intention of stopping just yet. It's not weird at all, it's entirely natural and loving. I love it! Although these days I have 15 mins with ds in with me, then dh takes him out so I can relax and have the water hotter! I guess we'll know when's the right time to stop.

My 8 year old still tries to get in with me but there isn't much room so it tends to be just for 5 minutes then I get out, don't think we will be doing it for much longer unless we get a bigger bath Smile.

I've never bathed with mine even when they were tiny

For fear of being pooped on

Delphiniumsblue · 07/04/2014 19:28

I think that size was why we stopped around 6 yrs.

WorkingBling · 07/04/2014 19:33

I annoy sure when'll stop, but I feel very strongly that before they are three isdefinitely too soon. Why wouldn't you? I am comfortable being makes with dh in a non sexual way so why cant we be comfortable with dc? Crazy. Bath for as long as you and they enjoy it!

jumblebee · 07/04/2014 19:33

Hahah 3Dc, it's always a risk!

I'm glad the majority think it's normal, I stopped breastfeeding and like that we can still have that close contact. Plus her little face is a picture when I grab some bubbles and blow them everywhere Grin

We have a tiny bath and I am of the larger persuasion so we may not do well with the bathing when she is older! When DP is is he'll take dress and feed her while I have a soak-it's bliss!

I think they were about 8? We have a big bath!

whereisthewitch · 07/04/2014 19:38

DD is 2.6 and she loves a bath with me! In fact she refuses to have one without me these days which is getting difficult as im 8 months pregnant! We will keep doing it until we don't fit in together anymore. ..I remember baths with my mum very fondly up until I was about 6!

Mintyy · 07/04/2014 19:39

I never once felt even remotely inclined to have a bath with my children. Am amazed that so many people do, tbh.

calamitygin · 07/04/2014 19:39

DD is almost 7 and we still have the occasional bath together. It's fine and not weird imo

starlight1234 · 07/04/2014 19:42

DS was about 5/6 a space issue really..now he usually comes and has a poo the minute I sit down in the bath Hmm

bigTillyMint · 07/04/2014 19:43

It is so much easier to bath a bsby if you are in the water with them, particularly if you have a deep bath.

The DC used to beg me/DH to have a bath with them. Oh how times changeGrin

HicDraconis · 07/04/2014 19:44

I still shower with mine (6&7) - will continue to do so until they don't want to. I shower in front of them, dress in front of them, don't see the issue really.

I bathed with them as babies because it was easier to hold them if I was in there too. Slippery little things they were :)

whereisthewitch · 07/04/2014 19:49

There's something quite bonding about it, hard to describe really.

PirateJones · 07/04/2014 19:51

I let them jump in until they no longer want to, my daughter was about 7 or 8 when she stopped.

AWimbaWay · 07/04/2014 19:51

I got in the bath with all three of my 3 Dcs last week, they are 8, 6 and three. My three year old is terrible having her hair washed and is much calmer if I'm in the bath too when I do it. Must admit though we were all pretty damn squashed in there and doubt I'll do it again. Would still get in just me and the three year old though.

hartmel · 07/04/2014 20:01

Just started with DS he is 7 month old.
He loves taking a bath with DH. And DH loves it too as the two have a lot of fun then.. And it is easier for me as I'm 12 weeks pregnant..
Will continue until DS gets bored or no longer wants to.

WhatsTheWordHummingbird · 07/04/2014 20:03

I dont as I cant sit in lukewarm water that dd likes, but DH bathes with her most nights. She is 2.3. I dont know when it will stop, but whenever dd doesnt want to any more.

Newsofaarrived · 07/04/2014 20:08

My 6 year old still loves baths with either of us, but I said no tonight as I need to do some bits around the house once he's gone to bed. Usually about twice a week with us, and will continue until he doesn't want to anymore.

ihaveadirtydog · 07/04/2014 20:11

I've never really done it - maybe once or twice when they were babies.
I like the water very hot and would get no pleasure from being squashed into a lukewarm bath with wriggly children!
But I don't mind them wandering in while i'm in the bath and playing with the bubbles.

elfycat · 07/04/2014 20:17

I don't bathe with them, but DDs 5 and 3.5 will shower with DH or I. We have a larger shower tray so there is room. I think space will be our issue sooner rather than later.

theborrower · 07/04/2014 22:27

I occasionally get in the bath with DD (she's 3 and a half) if I need a quick wash and can't be bothered having a separate shower or a bath after her. It's not a relaxing bath, just a wash! Last time I did this was last night and she said "Mummy, this is the best fun ever" Smile

theborrower · 07/04/2014 22:28

Meant to ask, why does your friend think it's "slightly wrong"? Is it a nudity thing?

LydiaLunches · 07/04/2014 22:30

I still bathe with dd 1 who is 8, more than the other as we like it hot, we have a chat, relax, it's lovely Smile
