October Babies - Part 2

It seems we have part 2 threads on other months so I thought I'd do one on October babies even though we only discovered mumsnet in Jan.

DD is doing well, breastfeeding only and holding out well for 3 more weeks before starting solids. DD sleeps well during the night although havent got a clue whether she feeds during the night as we never wake up properly to feed iyswim.
I'm going back to work for one week in July and then back properly in Sept.

Hercules... for what its worth.....our dd chatters away... all mumbojumbo except for a few words... but even they are not crystal clear obviously. lots of repetative stuff: dadadada, mummummum, 'cat': more like 'kahhhh' (dh is convinced she says wanker!!) other stuff like 'dhath' (over and over) lalalala, whahwhahwhah. In the mornings she will sit and talk to her toys in a cutsie voice... lots of ooooo's and ahhh's and delicate sounding nothings (if this is making any sense!)..... One other thing she has started to do the last week or so is give (or refuse) kisses when asked! its so cute! I'm sure babies develop at really different rates when it comes to speech... i remember my neice seemed to barely say anything for ages and ages, and now she's nearly three has a very extensive vocab... let us know how things go though. DD has her 8 month development chack and hearing test 2morro.... which means i have to see the dull hv! By the way... have your babies stopped putting on weight... dd seems to have only gained around a pound in 8 weeks.... but she's massive anyhow! Hope you're all okay....

ds is eating loads...and very nearly crawling, can go from lying to sitting by himself and does all the time, and also can crawl backwards v successfully

papillon · 10/06/2004 07:40

dd (29 Oct) eating pretty much just me still. She refuses most foods and I have to let her try to suck on something in her own time (banana, mango, rice crackers etc) She is very determined about this. She did take the spoon for awhile but now... no WAY mama!

Vocab... always has been her strong point. Ungar is one she has said for months. DaDa - sounded like she was saying F!*k afew weeks ago. H sounds, g sounds. She is quite mouthy really.

Sitting better, but has to be watched carefully as not stable yet. Getting more interested in rolling alittle and the tummy - so she may do some crawling one of these days.

No teeth

Learning to assert herself well already!

ok time for an update! dd is now 8mth 2wks and had her latest development check and hearing test yesterday. So far she seems to be doing most thing a few weeks (or even a few months!) early... proud parent alert! She has a great appetite and will eat just about anything she is given, she's getting really independant and loves finger foods, her fave seems to be crust of bread.

she has started crawling/dragging herself forward...there is no stopping her as she tries to keep up with her big brother. the house is now a mine-field of hazards...why does she always head straight for a piece of fluff or a bucket or coal!!!why doesnt she crawl towards all her lovely toys???

She now has 4 teeth, has already chipped one of them on the first day she started crawling. She still sleeps great, apart from when a new tooth is just cutting the surface. She still puts anything and everything in her mouth.

how are the rest of the Oct babes doing?

ds is 9 months in a few days time and is combat kamikazee crawler and cruiser and stand up sit downer. it is utterly delightful and completely exhausting. lots of d-d-d-d b-b-b-b but no words yet, am v envious of lisalisa's dd saying mama and dada .

only interested in self-feeding. i can get some lumpy mush in between him putting bread or peas in his mouth. loves fruit (any fruit). likes liver (!) almost anything mixed with sweet potato, wholemeal bread and butter (NOT hummus mummy, no way), cheese (!), avocado, mint tea (!).

can take or leave his food, wish he was a food lover, but he is v perfunctory about feeding, go go go whilst hungry and then spits it out/throws it when finished...doesn't seem to take any pleasure in food (probably much more healthy than his food adoring mother).

still doing a lot of joyous shreiking especially in the supermarket or in the abbey we took him to on the weekend (groovy echo mummy).

he is adorable. went through really bad phase of him waking between 5.30 and 6.30, but fingers very crossed we seem to be back on track and he sleeps from 7pm to 7ish am (7.25 this morning, a world record that i'm still reeling from). you have to work hard and earn his giggle which makes it the best sound in the world when he does. he is quite a serious chap, so when there is a peal of laughter it lights up my world. actually he lights up my world pretty much all the time, even when he is being awful

sorry for gushing, but, you know, if not here, then where?

lisalisa, your post has made me realise that a) we worry far far far too much b) the grass is always greener and c) it's lovely to realise that we all have the same kind of concerns and feelings and anxieties...

i'm expecting a 5am start tomorrow as ds's sleep was shot during the day today...i'll keep you posted...

spod!!! how completely gorgeous little spodette sounds...oh i cannot wait until ds can say some things...altho his burbling and screeching with joy is incredibly cute too

hercules · 31/07/2004 10:13

Hi all. Wow, 9 months gone so quickly.....

Well, I've been back at work (although hols now) and dd has been crawling for a month or so so I have been here not as regular though.

They all sound so gorgeuous (sp) and such an interesting age now.

DD is doing well, feels weird not breastfeeding all the time as she's losing interest. Two teeth now and seems to be teething with more on the way.
SOme days eats loads, others little. She's trying hard to stand and can manage about 3 secs. Loves clapping and waving and says hello in her way. She also pretends everything is a phone and holds everything to her ear including wipes.
She "talks" in her own way now all the time although nothing vaguely recognisable except hello.

we wont be able to do oct babies soon as there'll be new oct babies!

Hiya spod! She sounds lovely

DD is walking everywhere using furniture and her push along walker thingy. Still only has two teeth though. We are still concerned about speech and are having her hearing checked in sept. Depending how that goes we'll decide on whether to go private for the speech check otherwise up to 2 years wait.
She says bye though and waves as she does it but can do this anytime.
Interaction is great with us and she loves looking at bookds. I wouldnt say though she obviously understands anything we say though.
If I'm not worried, dh is and if he's not I am.
How is everyone else doing?

hercules · 16/08/2004 21:22

No thoughts on first birthday yet. Dh's friend has a baby 2 months younger and hers was booked and planned at the start of the year! They've booked posh hotel, caterers etc in January and have gone abroad for various ingredients! When he went to see her a month ago she was drying herb/plants in her dining room for use in the cooking.
Barmy!

We had the brick one for ds but he fell and cut his mouth on it. We got the vtech one and liked it so much we bought it again for dd. She loves it and it is good for walking with.
