October Babies - Part 2

hercules · 17/03/2004 08:47

It seems we have part 2 threads on other months so I thought I'd do one on October babies even though we only discovered mumsnet in Jan.

DD is doing well, breastfeeding only and holding out well for 3 more weeks before starting solids. DD sleeps well during the night although havent got a clue whether she feeds during the night as we never wake up properly to feed iyswim.
I'm going back to work for one week in July and then back properly in Sept.

hi gloworm. is nanny formula good? i'm thinking of changing from one bottle of aptimil a day (rest is b/f and solids)...

papillon · 07/05/2004 14:49

Well have attempted to introduce food mush to dd but she ain´t having it. My midwife came to visit and said if she doesn´t want it then wait alittle bit and try again. So that is what I am going to do - wait 2 weeks and have another go.

She said her really old baby books from the 1930/40´s all say to wait until 7/8 months until introducing foods!! So I am not freaking out about it and neither dd nor I have to get stressed about unhappy feeding sessions.

She still needs proping up for sitting and no teeth so imo and the midwife agreed she is not ready yet!
I will be bf her until she moves out of home

Hi all. DD is just recovering from rubella.
No sign of any teeth yet but she's managing some finger food. She's gone from eating fairly well for a few days back to very little rarely opens her mouth for food unless it's something she's putting in.
Happy to sit now for some time surrounded by toys.
Was doing well with sleep but last few nights up a couple of times but has ben ill.

Got to go to work to discuss going parttime on monday for an hour or so so will be fun for dh to look after her weith no booby. Hope i dont leak!

sophable, I find nanny formula great. I am a nutritionist so if I can offer you any more advice on Nanny just ask away!
its a bit more expensive, but worth it. goats milk is more similar to human milk than cows milk is. Children are less likely to develop eczema/asthma/allergies if they avoid cows milk-based products until at least one year old.
we have a 2.2yr old who is healthy and harty and never been ill, he had Nanny until about 1yr 2mths.

Hercules hope dd is well (and hope you didn't leak too much 0

papillon · 08/05/2004 08:41

Now I am very interested too Gloworm cause my dd has abit of a sensitive skin and has abit of an allergy there with some lovely excema thrown in...

gloworm · 08/05/2004 11:15

papillion, I had a few customers (own a health shop) who say their baby ezcema or cradle cap have either disappeared or reduced a lot when they swithed to Nanny milk.

I also add a little bit of "baby bacteria" to the bottle as well (they have different friendly bacteria in their gut than adults) and a drop of echinacea if anyine else in the famiy has a cold. Aslo did this when I was still breastfeeding.
Am soon going to add a drop of eskimo oil to one of her solid meals as well (even though there are some essential fatty acid in the Nanny already)

am a great fan of the above routine and think it gives them a great start (espially if they have been breastfed as well )

any questions just ask away!

gloworm · 08/05/2004 11:17

sorry about the spelling...ds woke up at 5.30am and am a bit knackered

Spod · 10/05/2004 23:40

sorry to hear your dd has been poorly hercules.. hope she is better by now. oud dd is now in her own room and sleeping through the nnight. last night she did 12 hours with no interventions from us, even though she woke twice, she managed to settle herself. but she is teeting again so we're not expecting miracles... but its a start and we're very impressed with her. i didnt have to resprt to cc, so was so relieved, and she comes into bed still for early mornign feed and suddles before we get up which i really look forward to. shes taken to solids so well, has started clambering about, constantly trying to move across the floor, out of her pram etc... shes got 2 teeth and more on the way.... hope you are all well.

Spod · 19/05/2004 10:47

ok, please tell me that your little darlings are not sleeping through yet.... dd has done it a few times but not consistently, and is still waking looking for food.... i'm sooooooooo tired. shes also now rolling over everywhere.... all the time, clambering over things and making really good attempts at crawling... eating solids really well now, loves oranges. hope you're all well.

gloworm · 19/05/2004 17:09

spod, dd has been sleeping through the night...until 2 nights ago, has hardly slept a wink in 2 days (nights are horrendous ). DH and I are taking it in turns to go into toddlers room for a few hours sleep, but I need more sleep!!!!
We know its due to teething so hopefully will be a short lived problem.

still, can't complain...ds didn't really sleep properly until around year and a half!

papillon · 19/05/2004 17:57

Spod - Our dd wakes up on average 2 - 3 times a night and the only food she accepts is dried mango, apple and pear to suck on!!

It seems as though the sleep carrot is so close yet so far away doesn´t it. It will come with time - just not overnight

Gloworm - I think I have found the culprit for the excema and irritated skin... clothing conditioner / softener. It is the only thing I can link chemical wise - and everything else I use on dd is very gentle and we hardly use soap.
I live in Switzerland so do not know the equivalent here for nanny milk (is that goat milk?) also have never heard of baby bacteria or eskimo oil? Would love to hear more about that!

hope your dd is feeing better Hercules

gloworm · 19/05/2004 20:31

Papillion-nanny is a baby formula based on goats milk.
Baby bacteria boost immune system and help digestive system, trapped wind and colic and various others.
Eskimo oil is a really high quality fish oil, helps baby's developing brain, concentration etc
Ecover do great washing powder/liquid/conditioner, all natural ingredients, great for sensitive skin.

you should be able to get all of the above (or similar) from a health shop. or on www?

papillon · 21/05/2004 12:17

thanks for the info gloworm - will do a search on net to find out more about baby bacteria

our dd is having a teething phaze I think... and it has been quite hot here the last few days.. waking loads. glad she is next to me on her futon.. otherwise I would be a zombie

gloworm · 22/05/2004 10:49

papillion Solgar and Country Life are good brands, not sure if you can get them in switz.

gloworm · 22/05/2004 10:58

papillion op this helps

papillon · 22/05/2004 11:13

thanks gloworm - appreciate all this info - really great

gloworm · 23/05/2004 15:05

how are all your october babies doing?

dd can sit up for quite a few minutes now. she is so funny and so cute. she's making a brave attempt at crawling but still has some way to go! I think she's trying to keep up with her big brother. she can wriggle backwards though, so we need to have a big spring clean soon and baby proof the house again

went to the beach this morning. ds(2yrs) is just getting the hang of using a bucket and spade and atempting to make sand castles (ok, so they're now much more than little heaps of sand at the moment!) dd loved it...she was dying to get down and join in but I know where all that sand would have gone...straight in her mouth

Spod · 24/05/2004 09:42

hi... dd has been sitting up for quite a while now... manages to stay up pretty much all the time. she constantly truning over, shuffling around and trying to clamber over things so we too need to baby proof the place! we had to lower her cot as she was pulling herself up on the bars... still plodding on with 'sleeping through the night' some are better than others! eats loads now (when teeth not sore) and is generally a happy soul. hope you're all well.. Hercules.. are you okay?

papillon · 29/05/2004 19:59

Hercules how are you doing?

papillon · 29/05/2004 20:02

dd is finally starting to take a wee bit of food... she does do quite afew raspberries though.. spraying food in all directions!!!

She has decided that she likes waking up at 5.30am which is not very cool.. So she has to get in bed with us and wait until we get up between 6.30 - 7.00am... hope she gets the message soon.

Starting to sit up better by herself.. but needs pillows as she thinks its funny to throw herself backwards... don´t want her or me to get a fright.
She likes standing on my hip and putting her face into my shoulder.. lovely... I am really enjoying her so much!

hercules · 29/05/2004 20:37

Hi there Papillion

DD is doing well although not eating very much! Hadnt thought of raspberries - good idea.
I'm back at work now although off this week and missing her like crazy but she's fine.
Very desperate to crawl but doesnt have the strength to do it yet.
Thankfully no 5.30 wakings although she does get up with me at 6.30.

OP posts:
papillon · 30/05/2004 09:52

LOL I meant the pursed lip kind of raspberries!! To show her disapproval.

I thought you must have started work - I would miss my dd too if I was away from her.

She woke up at 6.30am this morning... put her to bed earlier so her 2nd waking was not when the sun was peeking through the curtains so she went back to sleep !! YAH
Would like to get to reduce the feeds - I wonder if she will do that naturally as she does seem quite hungry? I think it would be better to try and dissuade the middle of the night feed than the early morning one - cause otherwise she would want to get up at 5.00am.

Spod · 07/06/2004 00:20

hello, how are you all? hope you've all been able to enjoy the nice weather. dd has started to say words... (in her own way) cat, cup, mumma, dada, and can point to the pictures on her wall when i say 'star', 'flower', 'pig' 'dog' 'bee' etc... i'm so impressed!! she's trying to crawl too.... she did 6 nights sleeping through and then we've had three bad nigts again.... more teeth on the way i think! how are you all?

hercules · 08/06/2004 20:05

Can other oct mums please post about their ds/dd speech as we are concerned about dd as she's been refered to salt.

Please be honest and describe their speech.

tia

gloworm · 08/06/2004 20:41

dd was born on oct 23, so is probably one of the youngest oct babies. Anyway she is currently sayind dada (for quite some time) and last week has started saying dadden dadden dadden, over and over and over again. sometimes we think both these words mean "daddy" and sometimes we thing the words apply to anything and everything she sees.

what is salt and why has she been referred?

and what is she saying?

spod..your dd sounds like she is flying along!!!!
