October Babies - Part 2

It seems we have part 2 threads on other months so I thought I'd do one on October babies even though we only discovered mumsnet in Jan.

DD is doing well, breastfeeding only and holding out well for 3 more weeks before starting solids. DD sleeps well during the night although havent got a clue whether she feeds during the night as we never wake up properly to feed iyswim.
I'm going back to work for one week in July and then back properly in Sept.

If she is on her front now she will lift her arms and legs to stretch iyswim.

dd born 29 Oct

have not been putting her on her front much at all because she does not like it. but today we lay her on her belly and she was quite active and looking ready to roll... flapping the arms and bringing the legs up quite high and also making crawling attempts.

Likes to now turn the pages of the book we are reading.

sitting better all the time - but not unaided yet!

not started on the food yet... but she is definately getting very interested... no teeth either.

Sounds like mine Hercules and she was born on the 12th. Thanks!

my ds is rolling both ways but topples over when sat up: it's swings and roundabouts isn't it. he has got a tooth tho (it looks really weird, sort of too big for his mouth).

hercules · 18/04/2004 19:57

Funny to think of dd with a tooth sophable.
Guess what we are buying tomorrow - a blender lol!

Bloody protein.

my dd born on 17th... doesnt roll, but she hates being on her belly, one tooth broke through yesterday.... shes been sitting for around 4 weeks... pretty much unaided but she does flop every now and then.... started to bum shuffle.... moves furtherst when on her back and she shunts herself along! theyre all different

Spod · 25/04/2004 22:45

just out of interest... those of you who are bf... how many feeds and solid meals are you giving each day.... worried as my dd's milk feeding is a bit eratic

hercules · 27/04/2004 18:08

Spod. DD is now on 3 good meals a day.
Typical day is bf in the morning while in bed - cosleeping at the mo.
Up between 6.30- 7.30
Breakfast
Bf at around 9.30 then nap for around 3/4 hour
Small bfeed
Lunch around 12.30.
Bf at around 1-1.30
Nap for 3/4 hour
another bf before tea at 5.00
Bf at 6pm - maybe small nap but only 5 mins
Bf at around 1.30-8pm andbed.
No idea how often she feeds during the night. I think it is jus t snacks but she wont always want to feed back to sleep, often only wants a cuddle to go back to sleep.

She has cut back bf a lot now eating a lot of solids but still gets enough as she seems to take a lot in 10 mins.

Thats good info for me too Hercules - I will be thinking food very soon as dd is 6 months on Thursday!!

She is definately starting to feed less often - but it is getting hotter so do not like to have to many hours in between feeds - I like to drink reguarly so figure she would like a little sip now and then at the milk bar!!

I was amazed at the difference also Hercules at how much your dd sleeps during the day... my dd used to have two good sleeps and one 45 minute one - but now she does a big one in the morning then the others are 45 mins or so.

hercules · 27/04/2004 19:03

DD has even started finger foods now and is chewing really well. Very glad we waiting p until 6 months.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/04/2004 22:16

how is the blender hercules? i am amazed at how well ds is chewing: grapes/ricecakes/banana/bits of apricot or kiwi in his babyrice, you name it, he chews it

hercules · 27/04/2004 22:27

Never got it in the end. Managed with afork and knife for chicken as she manages well on chewing now! lol

Spod · 27/04/2004 22:33

blimey, my dd dont eat that much in a day.... hope its just the teething putting her off for the time being....i wondered about giving dd things to chew... how does that work then? what sized peices do you give them? what sort of food? how long after introducing solids? dd is happily eating her solids now.... we're sorting night time sleeping out at the moment.... shes just gone into her own room. shes got 2 teeth, just learnt to roll over too! how are you all?

Heathcliffscathy · 27/04/2004 22:47

lol hercules. you are fork woman.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/04/2004 22:49

spod, don't worry about it, everyone at own pace. chewing stuff: small pieces, sometimes a bit squished if not soft (like squeeze piece of banana between fingers iykwim). and watch like a hawk in case of choking!

papillon · 29/04/2004 09:01

Dd is 6 months old today !!!
and so we have decided to feed her some banana for starters
she does not sit up by herself yet so am unsure how much to give her.
The midwife is coming for a visit next week to talk about things.. so maybe I will not get too excited until then.

Heathcliffscathy · 29/04/2004 21:40

happy six months dd!

hercules · 01/05/2004 10:33

Thought I'd share with you a gross toy that dd loves. A relation bought it for her and my first thought was yuck, where's it from so i can exchange it but it didnt have any telling labels.
It's a baby tad by i think leapfrog and is nearly as big as her, it sings and can do different things.
Looks scary though.

was gonna ask you all about good toys... have bought some from early learning centre for our age range but she seems really quite bored with them..... which ones take your babies fancy?

hercules · 03/05/2004 21:44

Spod · 06/05/2004 21:33

thanks hercules.... i forgot i had one of those in the cupboard for dd.... she thinks its smashing! How long are your babies sleeping at night without needing a feed? our dd can do 10 hours... we've only discovered! i got so desperate for sleep that we shunted her off into her own room and have been beging her to sleep through without needing to come in bed with me....

gloworm · 07/05/2004 12:12

hi all, just adding myself to the october thread.

DD was born 23 Oct. she is so peaceful, quiet, content...dont know if its a boy/girl thing but this is complete opposite of ds!

she started sleeping through night once a week from 3 weeks, and has been sleeping from 8pm to 7.30am since about 4 months. (ds only really started sleeping properly at about 1yr6mths!!!)

she has been having a bottle of Nanny formula from 1mth and solids since 14 weeks...bit early on both counts but she was sooooo hungry, she was 10lb 1oz when born.
well done to all of you who held out an solids until 6mths

she can sit up for a few minutes and is maling great attempts at moving...lots of bum in air and going nowhere! she tends to go round in circles a lot.

got 2 teeth last week, hardly knew she was teething (apart from all the drooling!)

sorry if this is all sounding a bit sickly perfect but we're been through all the bad bits as well...like I said earlier ds was a different kettle of fish all together
