Why is it you never see little boys in shorts in November?

Yet today I have seen several little girls in skirts and socks?

If it's too cold to wear shirts, surely it's too cold for a skirt without tights?

You just haven't seen my boys.

lola88 · 10/11/2013 18:01

I hate to see children not dressed for the weather

Panzee · 10/11/2013 18:03

My boy worked out earlier this year that if he didn't wear shorts he didn't need suncream. I've not got him to wear them since!

I taught some boys last week in short trousers.

Asteria · 10/11/2013 18:06

When my son was at prep-school all the boys wore shorts and long socks all year round - when he moved on to a state school he still wanted to wear shorts but his teacher objected and sent me a letter saying it was a form of child abuse!!

I've seen a fair few grown men in shorts this weekend.

Fecking weirdos.

Bobolbach · 10/11/2013 18:13

My DS constantly wears shorts out of choice. He does have trousers but chooses not to wear them. We live in the north of scotland.
I get lots of looks..... but figure if he was that cold he wouldn't wear them.

ChunkyPickle · 10/11/2013 18:14

All the kids in the local prep school wear shorts all year round - it's actually one of the reasons I don't like those very traditional private schools, if feels like they're prioritising cute uniforms over children's comfort (and not in a tie and shirt on a toddler way, but in a bare knees in foot deep snow way)

Hulababy · 10/11/2013 18:14

Local boys school - primary aged boys all wear shorts with long socks. Mind you they are pretty long shorts and very long socks - so not much actual skin showing. And in really cold weather they tend to travel in waterproof trouser or their jogging bottoms and remove them on arrival.

DD has always prefered skirt and dress for school, rather than tights. She doesn't really feel the cold that much - not til it is much colder.

IME children, as soon as they are able, will shout up if they are too cold. We often forget how actiave many children are during the day and as a result they don't need to be quite as bundled up as more sedate adults are. Just look at your average primary school at playtime - we have to almost force some little ones to put coats on in the winter.

I always think it is also worth rememebering - it is usually far safer to be too cold than too hot, esepecially for babies and young children.

ChunkyPickle · 10/11/2013 18:15

Ah, yes, the little ones are pre-prep aren't they.. not very familar with the lingo.. still 4 year-olds in shorts in the snow seems a bit off to me.

Kickarsequeen · 10/11/2013 18:16

There was one in shorts and very short socks at the park today! Brrrrrr!

Bowlersarm · 10/11/2013 18:16

At my DSes school boys have to wear shorts all year round to the end of year 6.

MrsCakesPremonition · 10/11/2013 18:17

Man shorts are essential dress for men of a certain age (over 25 less than 50) around here. That and shaving their balding heads.

Boys are not allowed man shorts until they reach maturity.

Trills · 10/11/2013 18:19

I have not seen either...

somewhereinessex · 10/11/2013 18:19

Same with our school - shorts all year round up to year 6 although they have long winter coats which go well past any bare flesh and can wear tracksuit bottoms if it's snowy. No complaints from my two boys.

EmpressOfThe7WillowsandTaras · 10/11/2013 18:20

I saw a couple of boys in shorts while shopping today. And sandals. Confused

Madamecastafiore · 10/11/2013 18:21

DH and DS both wear shorts all year round!!

Barmy they are!!

I may hide DS's soon though as he gets sore skin but wants to be like his dad!

pumpkinkitty · 10/11/2013 18:25

I teach a lad who stays in shorts till around Christmas. It's a bit of a joke with us now and I always ask when trouser season is coming. His mum just rolls her eyes. Weirdly though he insists on wearing a warm coat out 'in case I get cold'.

steeking · 10/11/2013 18:29

Ds2 is still wearing shorts to school as an overkill from summer . I've suggested he put on long trousers but he said school was too hot and he runs around at playtime so he's not cold .

steeking · 10/11/2013 18:30

Overspill ! Bloody autocorrect

JustCallMeBaldrick · 10/11/2013 18:32

Given the chance one of mine would wear shorts all year round! DD refuses to wear anything other than a dress, and only with socks, as "Princesses don't wear tights"...

Jbck · 10/11/2013 18:33

Couple of infants in shorts at DD2's school last week. It is v frosty though now so I don't expect many tomorrow.

Can't say the same for some of the Dads - PUT THEM AWAY!

Fenton · 10/11/2013 18:36

Eldest boy is still in shorts, younger in trousers since half term.

Our postie wears shorts all year round.

And there used to be a chap in our town who wore shorts and no shoes, carried two Sainsburys bags around, presumably containing all he owned. I have just remembered that these were Sainsburys paper bags so was quite some years ago, I wonder what became of him?

MirandaWest · 10/11/2013 18:38

DA wears shorts all year round. I have given up the battle (for now at least)
