Why is it you never see little boys in shorts in November?

Yet today I have seen several little girls in skirts and socks?

If it's too cold to wear shirts, surely it's too cold for a skirt without tights?

Shorts and socks as uniform is ridiculous and old fashioned. What's that all about?

UniS · 10/11/2013 18:41

not seen my boy or his classmate recently then. the pair of them only go into long trews when there is snow on the ground. DS likes wearing long socks to keep his legs warm ( when he remembers to pull them up) .

Some long socks are warmer than tights, even if a bit shows. To avoid battles with my girls, I ensure they have thermal long socks just in case, saves a lot of energy.

In the house we're all for wear what you like - namely neon green shorts or bright red shorts and a t-shirt. When we go out I make sure he is dressed warmly as theres nothing worse than the complaints of how cold he is even if he complains he wont be cold when I'm badgering him to get changed into jeans or a pair of trousers. He can play in the garden in shorts though.

UnacceptableWidge · 10/11/2013 18:45

My DH is a postie and wears shorts all year round. He says his legs dry off after it's been raining but if you wear trousers they stay damp all day. Also says legs arent cold once you are moving around.

All DSs wear trousers though, they are nesh just like me.

MrsMaryCooper · 10/11/2013 18:45

Mine would wear shorts if I let him, but he is skateboarding and I would like him to keep some skin on his limbs.

ILoveAFullFridge · 10/11/2013 18:46

No shorts-wearing little boys around here.

My dc would insist on wearing something totally unsuitable and then moan about being cold. Sometimes they learn, but at 3-4-5? Not necessarily!

Ds is wearing shorts today. DD is wearing jeans but tomorrow she will probably wear a skirt and knee socks for school and I will tell her to put tights on and she will say that she gets too hot. I'll tell her not to be silly and then she'll say they're all in the wash. I'll tell her I washed them on Saturday and she'll say she can't find them, by which time we are late and I'll give in.

Several kids still in shorts at DS's primary school Confused

CMOTDibbler · 10/11/2013 18:51

Ds's school uniform is shorts and socks till y6. He never complains that his legs are cold, and is still choosing to wear shorts when not at school.

AppleCrumples · 10/11/2013 19:27

Ds2 will only wear shorts. I just about managed to get him in trousers when it snowed last winter but he complained the whole time.

Its a running joke that he is bound to become a postie when he grows up.

I do get fed up of people asking me if he is cold, surely the fact my other dc are all sensibly dressed suggests i am not forcing them on to him when hes cold! its not worth the fight :)

I was going to make some snarky comment about it being the 21st century, but I agree with you. I also hate to see girls in flimsy little Mary Janes when there's 3 inches of snow on the ground.

I equally hate it when it's about 13-15C at school run, time, in summer and forecast to reach well over 20C by lunchtime - and kids are turning up for school with jumpers and winter coats on.

Francesa · 13/11/2013 13:15

DS2 in shorts today, quite mild here too!

bundaberg · 13/11/2013 13:18

dunno... ds2 insisted on wearing shorts to school the other day lol

FriskyHenderson · 13/11/2013 13:20

DS wears shorts all year round, hates that trousers are complusory at school from Oct half term until Easter and changes when he gets in.

When the weather hits single digits, he will wear ski socks with the shorts; and might consider a hoody over his short sleeve t-shirt.

He looks upon Vests and Coats as Evil.
