Seaside, when are you back to work? Have you tried teething gel ? I have not used it so no advice but I heard they were ok or teething ring if baby S still puts things in her mouth. A has 8 teeth, she does not seem to be too bothered, thankfully.

rosiedays · 15/11/2013 12:55

Seaside. .. i swear by Ashton and Parsons teething power.

rosiedays · 15/11/2013 12:57

I've heard of giving breast milk lollipops for teething.

Well done on the cot sleeping LRM! Baby C still only sleeps on me or his dad during the day, which means nothing gets done. Maybe once we've put the cot up (this weekend if the washing machine gets fixed this afternoon so we don't need to go to the laundrette), he's a bit cramped in the moses basket now!

I've been offered the job just around the corner! It's the bare minimum I can afford to earn, very slightly more than my maternity allowance and £200 less than I thought was my bare minimum before I had a baby and didn't work for a year! It is, however, a 5 minute walk, free time in the day and only 3 days a week so if I get critically skint I can look for some work on Mondays or even Fridays. There will be some full days in the holidays, so that will help. Grin

rosiedays · 15/11/2013 21:04

Cycle yay re job. Congratulations Flowers Do you get to take baby cycle with you? How wonderful if you do. I know what you mean about minimum income! !! Take heart that it doesn't last forever and things will get easier ( in 4years when he goes to school! )
Had an awful time at the dentist he couldn't remove the temporary filling so couldn't put the new crown on. .. so upset. He doesn't know what to do! ! ! Will have to find another dentist as have NO faith in him now. He gave me the implant thing to take away! !!! Unbelievable.

cyclecamper · 15/11/2013 21:15

Thank you rosie We're having Chinese take away to celebrate Smile
I can take baby C with me, so that's fab.

Sorry about your teeth, that's bloody awful! I hope you find someone to sort it out as soon as possible.

Still no washing machine. The man didn't turn up.

There goes another Saturday to the laundrette.

blueblackdye · 15/11/2013 21:25

Cycle, this is fab ! Congrats !
Rosie, what a nightmare ! You should report this dentist to the Dentistry association. Has anyone heard that before ? Giving you the tools to deal with it yourself ? Who s the expert here ? Shame on him. What s his name ? So that nobody ever goes to him anymore.
Love this pic of Rosebud, those big black eyes, I could dive in them !
Good night everyone

scarecrow22 · 16/11/2013 01:20

Rosie, so so sorry about teeth.

Cycle, huge congratulations. And yy to children changing the economics.

Monkey, great news about naps. We'll done that brave boy.

scarecrow22 · 16/11/2013 01:24

Goat, so so hope BG recovers quickly (he looked too cute in the thermometer pic!)

Seaside, so feel forbyou going back to work. I found thought of it much worse than actuality, so keep the faith. Is dh able to look after baby? Assuming not, hope she settles in soon and reassures you.

scarecrow22 · 16/11/2013 09:41

we want to go to Austrian Alps next summer and have been debating Fly-drive or taking the camper van. So today we ate driving to NEC classic car show and got as far as Oxford Services before dh lifted his voice above the incessant whines, moans, teething grizzled, "mummmmy, I've got a sore tummy"s and so on..."I.think we'll fly," he said, where upon we got those slightly hysterical.giggles children can induce

GoatBongoAnonymous · 16/11/2013 10:38

Rosie that is Shock about the dentist. How awful for you. I hope you can find a good one to sort things.
Cycle hooray re the job! Thanks
Scarecrow we had a hysterical giggle moment this morning too. Poor BG still vomming though temp down slightly. "Shall we give him milk?" asked DH. "Yes, even if he voms he keeps some down, so will help hydration," I said. Cut BG doing the biggest ever vom all over DH! Naturally... BG now asleep beside me, again. This bug has been a bit scary. I think this is a major flaw in the design of parenting, this constant worry!!

blueblackdye · 16/11/2013 13:39

Scarecrow, when DS was 18 mo, DH was going to Florida for business on March, through Nov and Dec, he kept telling me to take DS with me and go with him, at Xmas, we flew back from Bordeaux to London, DS spent the hour and a half fidgeting around. After that, I never heard anything about flying to Florida anymore ! Once DS was 3, we flew long haul a few times and it was much easier. We hardly ever drive long distance so I can't say how it is going to be.
I think it is more of a challenge when babies have just discovered walking because they just walk for the sake of it, no purpose but walk and master the new possibility/skill. After, it is a matter of keeping them busy.

blueblackdye · 16/11/2013 13:40

Goat, yes it is now part of us, worrying is a second nature, no matter how relax you were!!!!

blueblackdye · 16/11/2013 13:52

With DS at swimming lesson, sweet little boy following instructions but jumping up and down, he is the smallest one in his group, i can see he is going to be a very fit teenager, bony and slim but muscular. I am totally besotted, aren't I ?

scarecrow22 · 16/11/2013 14:37

goat my sister who has 3 kids says never milk when vomiting, only water though I would add rehydration drinks type things. Possibly very watered down apple juice??? Is Calpol keeping temp down? is he vomiting.from temperature or do you think.is a vomiting.bug? If Calpol (or Calpol and baby ibuprofen alternately) do not keep temp down after say 4 hours then I would go to emergency doctor/walk in centre, or at least check with whatever NHS Direct has become.

Just met DH's first girlfriend.from 25 yrs ago...she is a petrol head like he is..whaddyaknow?!

GoatBongoAnonymous · 16/11/2013 17:18

Calpol/calprofen was doing nothing, and he was keeping absolutely nothing down so ended up in children's a&e. he has tonsillitis and gastroenteritis Sad just waiting to be discharged with antibiotics and dioralyte which is finally staying down after a fun puky day on the observation unit.

blueblackdye · 16/11/2013 18:09

Poor baby G. Tonsilitis is bad enough but gastroenteritis on top.... Hope antibiotics will kick in quickly.

GoatBongoAnonymous · 16/11/2013 18:48

No wonder he screamed every time he threw up Sad
Home and he is asleep.

rosiedays · 16/11/2013 22:05

Oh goat, hope bg feeling better now and is getting some lovely sleep. Hope you're feet up and Wine
Praying for sleeping babies everwhere tonight.
Rosebud is sound asleep next to me, breathing softly and smelling yummy. Arms out like a star fish and blanket kicked off again. Baby's are amazing
little things. Xx night all

somewherebecomingrain · 16/11/2013 22:13

rosie I feel your pain. I had long drawn out toothache during pregnancy. Dentist started doing root canal but seemed a bit unsure given my long roots. Injected anaesthetic and started drilling. PAIN! He gave me another, stronger injection but it still didn't work. I staggered out so upset, legs like a newborn colt from all the injections and the trauma of unanaethsatised drilling, all pregnant and in agony.

Never went back to that dentist although have had to go private after. And I realise the dentist simply didn't wait long enough for the anaesthesia to work - it takes 5 mins but he went straight in. Because apparently I have the longest, curliest roots in history and he knew he couldn't do it. He should have just said.

Dentists are a rum bunch. Shop around.

Xxx

blueblackdye · 16/11/2013 22:43

Omg, Somewhere, I bet you drag your feet now even with the best dentist in the world. I had 1 toothache, went to see an emergency dentist, he did what he could, it was ok for 10 years and when I decided to get a crown, everything went wrong, canal root was curved and emergency dentist left a bit of the tool inside, so had micro surgery to remove that, then crown, 1st attempt, the glue was not the right one as I chose a ceramic crown and it broke straight away, 2nd attempt was perfect, colour matched .... 6 years later, while eating homemade couscous, broke the crown in half, but was 7 or 8 month pregnant so had to wait to get it fixed, dentist is 2h drive from Paris, almost 6 months after ! I can tell you I m not going to a dentist chosen on 118 anymore.
DS is closely monitored when brushing his teeth and the timer is on for 3 full long minutes. And he brushes his teeth in the morning, after lunch and dinner on week ends and hols, school day he misses the after lunch but that is the only one he can miss. V fortunate he has DH's healthy gums and teeth.

knickyknocks · 17/11/2013 06:19

Poor little BG. There is nothing in the world worse than when your child isn't well. Not least spending the whole time worried about them throwing up in their sleep, not eating, spiking temps all, equalling no or very little sleep for the parent. Really hope he gets well soon (and IME kids really do make speedy recoveries- and if they haven't been eating prepare yourself, they generally try and, make up for the day's they didn't eat). Thinking of you and BG.

Absolutely shattered here. Went out dancing with some mummy friends on Friday eve, had fun but ba

knickyknocks · 17/11/2013 06:23
