We are 40+ mummies sharing all the highs and lows of our autumn crocus babies. Also sharing tips and information (most crying is tiredness!) and jokes. Please join us!

None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm
You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely
It's sad to grow old, but nice to ripen.

scarecrow22 · 23/10/2013 09:38

rosiedays · 23/10/2013 10:08

Pfb is a mn for precious first born ( in her case slightly over protected and indulged)

EagleRay · 23/10/2013 17:07

Wow congratulations to you and DD rosie!! Flowers

Lovely to see you back here VQ

Hello everyone from sunnier climes. Flight good, esp as plane half empty so given extra seats. Self drive quite hairy at times but got to guest house before midnight (mostly using correct side of road during journey)

Emerged this morning to see place for first time - it's part smallholding, with goats, chickens and fruit trees and also has a lovely pool area with nice sunloungers. Breakfast was amazing - traditional kahvalti and while we were eating one of the daughters went and fetched her baby to introduce to DD. it was really funny - the baby was dressed for winter in woollies while DD was sat there in her short legged summer romper...

The saga of the lidless kettle and DP's eccentric packing arrangements continues - kettle turns out to be a godsend due to lack of coffee! He also packed a pepperpot (I shit you not) which exploded en route and EVERYTHING is now covered in bloody pepper. I think in his head every holiday we have is a camping trip...

DD has been as high as a kite since we left the uk - routine gone to hell and is eating whatever we can find. And she has a word: "diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle"

Thinking of you all and hope you have a lovely week Smile

scarecrow22 · 23/10/2013 21:41

Rosie so pleased for your Pfb and her Pfb too! Thanks Thanks Thanks for mummy and granny Grin

blueblackdye · 23/10/2013 22:44

Rosie, this is great news ! Congrats to your DD.
Eagleray, the location sounds idyllic, enjoy. I m too jealous to watch the FB video :)

Wrapping presents for DS while waiting for his chocolate cake to finish cooking. 5 years ago, it was a Thursday, I was trying to find sleep at the clinic at this minute, water leaked 24h ago, no contraction yet, until 7am the following morning, DS did not arrive until 16.45on Friday 24th Oct 2008.
Went to the Embassy for his passport today, he looks like his dad so much on the picture, unbelievable. We can now book Marrakech as hs passport will be available in a week ! Hourah !

We had a great day today at the Science Museum and then NHM. A bit of a meltdown around 1.30 though, combination of tiredness and certainly overstimulation, but nothing major. Scarecrow, that was probably the effect/example of T being such a smiley, chilled out and easy baby on DS.

Nursery advised A might move up to toddlers room end of Nov as she is a good walker and very confident in her environment. It seems to me that she started nursery only yesterday but she has been going for 2 months already...

Yum, I can smell the chocolate, have to go ! Good night everyone

PuddingAndHotMilk · 23/10/2013 23:56

eagle hols photos are fab, keep them coming please.
bbd thinking of taking DD to the science museum (she's 4) would you recommend it?

scarecrow how's T and his teeth? Baby KK is a drool monster at the mo and I'm sure I can feel the startings of a tooth.

Received some bad news from my mum yesterday. She's been diagnosed with Parkinson's. Early states thank goodness. Oh the joys of getting older. It just makes me wonder what the future holds. She lives on her own in a house and I wonder what will happen if things (and when Sad things deteriorate) in the sense of will she need to move, who will care for her etc. I'm guessing it's a case of crossing bridges when we come to them.

blueblackdye · 24/10/2013 10:33

Knicky, sorry about your Mum, it is hard when our parents get older, my Mum lives alone although I have 2 brothers in the same town but I am on the phone with her every other day. I love her a lt but can't live with her, she drives me bonkers after 3 days tbh !
Science Museum is really good, the Garden has interactive plays for kids from 3 to 6, DD would definitively like it but get there in the morning otherwise it is too busy.
DS has been a star, woke up, got dressed, kissed his sister and said Happy Birthday to MEEEEE !

knickyknocks · 24/10/2013 10:35

Ooh happy Birthday to bbds DS! Wishing him a wonderful day Thanks

scarecrow22 · 24/10/2013 11:25

Happy birthday to BBD's utterly adorable sweet tempered chatty little boy :) [lego], [pokemon] and, obviously, Cake

scarecrow22 · 24/10/2013 11:47

knicky really sorry about your mum. Crossing bridges when you get to them good idea. In meantime my parents are both very involved with a charity which works with people with Parkinson's and other neurological conditions. My understanding is often people benefit from early intervention and there are ways of slowing development. My mum's best friend has had it for well over a decade and lives a very full life and almost nobody knows she has it. If you ever want any information I'm really happy to get it, or even to talk to one of the founders (I have sometimes raised money for them and helped out and they are a family friend.) only when or if you want though. In the meantime here to hold hand (or have tea and a hug :) ). It will be worrying, but hopefully it can be managed well and you have many years of quality time ahead, x

rosiedays · 24/10/2013 12:32

Happy happy birthday bbd lovely little lad ::) have a wonderful day.
Kk sorry to hear about your mum, as scarecrow said a lot can be done to delay the condition. Flowers

Velcro baby day today :)

somewherebecomingrain · 24/10/2013 12:39

Happy birthday bbd 's DS!

knicky so sorry. I know how I felt when I found out my mum was ill - it really shakes your world. scare offers great advice and I can also say that yesterday my mum gave an impassioned speech about all the wonderful things in her life - and she isn't given to impassioned speeches. And I realised its not hype about how these things make you appreciate every moment.

Xxx

Happy birthday bbd's DS Cake
Congratulations Rosie and Rosie's DD1 (and of course dgs)
Yay for Valium queen reappearing!
So sorry about your mum knicky.
Hello and thank you for lovely posts everyone else. Excuse my rudely not name checking. Am off. To. Bed. looks vaguely for yawny emoticon

knickyknocks · 24/10/2013 15:36

Thank you everyone. You're all so wonderfully supportive and know just the right things to say.

scarecrow I may take you up on the offer of more info at some point. She's been given tablets to take and isn't due back at the hospital for 6 months, which I take as extremely positive. I think it's a case of watch and wait to see how she goes. It's not easy getting old is it? In some ways when my dad died suddenly it was so shocking, but with, hindsight weirdly I find it comforting to know he didn't go through years of treatment.

DH is being very supportive and life in the KK household seems to be a happier home, with lots of talking, understanding and being generous to one another. Would quite like a few weeks of nothing notable happening!

blueblackdye · 24/10/2013 16:45

Big big big hugs to you Knicky

cyclecamper · 24/10/2013 20:11

Sorry about your mum knicky

Congratulations Rosie & rosie's daughter.

I went to the national gallery with my sister and 2 of her children today. Not as much fun as the science museum!

knickyknocks · 24/10/2013 20:51

On a far brighter note, it's looking like baby KK is on the move (albeit backwards!)Just before bath and bedtime tonight he managed to creep commando style out of the living room, into the hall and towards the front door. I'm fairly sure he wasn't trying to escape but who knows? Grin

Best get those stairgates up, suspect it won't be long before he works out how to go forward...lovely moment though feeling very proud of him. Seem to remember it feeling fairly monumentous with DD too the first time she crawled, moving on to a whole new stage Smile
