Do you wash your dc's hair everyday?

DH decided to not wash Dd's hair on the days he gives her baths on the grounds that it's not good for her scalp to have her hair washed everyday. I'm not quite convinced. Just wondering how often do you wash your dc's hair and if it actually does any damage to wash it everyday!

Mine get theirs washed twice a week. DD I try to get her to do every other day as she is entering teenage-dome and getting greasy hair.

SizzleSazz · 18/09/2013 22:02

invicta · 18/09/2013 22:02

Dd1 washes her own hair seeing as she's a teenager. I think she washes it most days but not every day.

Dd2 is 3 and is absolutely against the idea of hair washing or any personal grooming at all. She has her hair washed about once a week, possibly twice. Her hair looks the same as any of her friends (other than the stig of the dump look she favours as she scruffs it up as soon as I brush it Hmm), they may or may not wash theirs more frequently.

As toddlers it got washed every day or 2nd day depending on how full of food/mud/sand/play doh etc it was - primary age 2-3 times a week was more than enough. High school now and they wash it every day or I could fry chips in it.

However eeryone is different, but i'd be surprised if many young children need it washed daily.

BornToFolk · 18/09/2013 22:05

No, once or twice a week usually. More in the summer, or if it needs it. Probably wouldn't do any harm to wash it daily but there's no real need.

PolyesterBride · 18/09/2013 22:05

I don't wash their hair every day. Why would you? I wash it about every five or six days or so. I don't see why it would be necessary to wash it more often - it doesn't even seen dirty when it does get washed. (Unless food, paint etc type stuff gets in it). Not sure if it would be bad to wash it every day although I suppose it wouldn't be good for a sensitive scalp. I don't give my kids a bath every day though so maybe we are just the scummy family!

Once a week unless there's food or paint in it.

Taffeta · 18/09/2013 22:29

DD every other day. Fine hair.
DS once a week. Thicker hair.

4 times a week. Showers on mon, weds and fridays and a bath on sundays. They're 6 and 5.

Talkinpeace · 18/09/2013 22:33

what do they do to get grubby every day?

how much are your water and fuel bills?

JewelFairies · 18/09/2013 22:39

Twice a week. It involved many toys, a lot of bubbles, two girls squealing with laughter, and a soaked bathroom. I can't cope with that more than twice a week. Plus half an hour blow drying dd1's hair Envy

FantasticDay · 18/09/2013 22:49

Once or twice a week

MerryMarigold · 18/09/2013 22:51

Once a week for all my 3, including a dd. Everyone says her hair is so shiny and what do I use on it? Just Johnson's and infrequent washing, I think! Obviously if we have been swimming in the sea or to a beach, I would wash it.

MerryMarigold · 18/09/2013 22:52

If it gets dirty you can actually just rinse in water. My ds1 had eczema as a small child and we actually never washed it in shampoo till he was about 5 or 6!

bymoonlight · 18/09/2013 22:56

I bath them everyday but only subject me them to the hell that is hairwashing twice a week.

If they get their hair wet splashing about then I'll wash it as it seems daft to have to dry hair that hasn't been shampooed.

TessTackle · 18/09/2013 23:00

Oh god, I wash DD (nearly 3) every day. Am I totally wrong??

DipMeInChocolate · 18/09/2013 23:04

Once / twice a week. Baby with hardly any hair and 5yo with super thick hair.

bymoonlight · 18/09/2013 23:06

I don't think your wrong Tess, just giving yourself unnecessary hassle unless her hair gets really dirty everyday.

HometownUnicorn · 18/09/2013 23:08

6yo normally just weekly, after swimming. she has beautiful thick straight hair

2yo has finer hair like me, so twice weekly.

MerryMarigold · 18/09/2013 23:08

I don't think it's good for hair to be shampooed everyday. It makes it a bit dry and flyaway.

soontobeslendergirl · 18/09/2013 23:08

I don't think there is a wrong or a right answer to this tbh. all childrens hair/habits/skin is/are different. it should always be washed after swimming and whenever else you think it needs it.

VinegarDrinker · 18/09/2013 23:11

Once a week, sometimes even less often (DS, 2.5).
