Nearly 8mo crawling, rolling over but not sitting up

Has anyone had a baby who would do the same? DS is nearly 8mo, he's been rolling over like mad for a good few weeks, going commando for a couple of weeks and just started crawling. He is not sitting upright unaided though. He is not even interested, as soon as I put him on the floor sitting up he goes on his tummy and "walks" away. HV told me to start putting pillows round him to keep him upright and help him practise keeping the balance. He just pushes the pillows away and wanders off, very pleased with himself. Can someone please reasaure me that it's normal? Or at least almost normal?

I have found that different children walk, crawl, sit etc at different stages and not to worry. Mine is nearly 7 months and im trying not to get fixated. I know he will do all of these things at some point - he can sit up for a bit but falls to the side after a while. He's nowhere near walking or crawling. He just drags himself across the floor.
However - my friend has this potty looking device with two leg holes to help her son sit up... and he can sit up better than mine. Don't know what it's called but looks like a potty. Will try to find it now.

Also another friend said her daughter walked before she could crawl.

Bumbo perhaps? DS has too chubby legs for it. And hated in unfortunately.

Yes thank you. DS is constantly on the go now and even bouncy chair (which he loooooved before) is all of a sudden not good any more.
Oh well, I'm sure he will be fine, just in his own time... Thank you!!

I don't have one but did worry when she had pics on facebook of her son sitting up perfectly... while ours just rolls around the carpet. But I know it's silly to compare. Her one is plastic looking.

And just putting him between piles of cushions seems bizarre, he gives me his wtf look and crawls away.. No sitting up then

I know how you feel. I know several people with babies the same age as mine and all over facebook they put claims of them
walking
eating solids
speaking (outrageous! They're 6 months old!)
sitting up
crawling etc

I have learnt to ignore and just know that he will get to what he gets to when he is ready. As Michael Mcintyre (can't spell that) said in one of his stand ups - why do we worry, they will develop eventually! It's not like you go to a dinner party and see a man crawling across the floor and his wife says "oh that's Derek, he can't walk yet, he just never picked it up!"

I've seen them too. I have a nephew who is 3 months younger than DS. My DS seems to be doing everything quitw late, nephew is doing everything really early... Now imagine the joys of any family meet ups... Aaarrrgh

if i put cushions around my boy he picks them up and stuffs them in his mouth.

That made me giggle. Both Derek on the floor and cushions in his wee mouth . A friend of mine posted on facebook recently that her DD is now on 7oz bottles, such a good feeder. She is 2wo. Erm really?

oh it drives me mad. I asked a friend how their child was (6 months) and he said "oh she's an angel, giggles all day and sleeps 13 hours a night"

Someone else insisted that their son could say 'i love you' at 4 WEEKS.

oh and he puts anything in his mouth he can literally get his chubby little hands on. The sofa is an ex display.... i shout 'Nooooooooooooooooo' every time he smashes his face into the cushion to try and get more suction.

From about 5mo I'd pop our DS into his highchair (Antiloo with the support cushion), not to feed him, heavens no, but just to play. I have photos of me sewing and him playing with ribbons, giggling like a loon! He would be up there 15-20 minutes, quite happily.
We'd also tried the 'surround him with pillows' trick, but he'd keel over, fall forward or, as pp's dc, just start eating them!

I caught DS licking the floor at the baby group last week. DS and his new pal (or so it seemed) where moving along the floor, side by side, tongues out, heads down. I was mortified initially but then I thought he'd maybe gain some more immunity to some new germs?

Some children tip out of Bumbos, too. Get one on ebay and if your dc doesn't get on with it, sell it on. My DS woukd have gone fucking nuts in a bumbo, he hates being confined (he is nearly two): swaddling, playpen, cot, pushchair - scream, scream, scream!
Wierdly happy in the highchair! Maybe it's the hight? Maybe he has inherited the 'I love Ikea' gene from his DM

I love Ikea too. And he loves his highchair too! I think it's the height too. I tried bumbo, DS hated it, he hated swaddling and moses basket too

licking the floor! Wait till he's a little bit older, sitting in his pushchair with his SHOE in his mouth! Shudder!
I remember a MNer saying she stop sterilising bottles when she found her dd licking the cat!
I read somewhere that a publc floor has as many germs as your own. Lickety lick

I keep asking myself why I still sterilise the bottles.
About the floor? Really? My beautiful floor, mopped every day and carpets hoovered daily would be the same as public floors? Oh dear, that makes me reconsider my 5 second rule when at home.

bless, he is fine! I think I'd be worried if he could sit, but would show no interest to move...

how on Earth do you feed him though if he won't sit still?

He is usually fine in his high chair. Or he just sits on my lap with both hands in my plate because of course my food is better then anything he gets (even if it's the same stuff)

we have a cat that he keeps trying to grab. Partner thinks it's because he loves the cat. I know better. It's just another thing to try on his gums. The poor cat doesn't know what he is in for!

That's weird about the high chair. We bought a lovely one that he HATES. I wish i hadn't bothered. Only happy in his low down bouncy chair that he is so overgrown in that it no longer bounces as his chunky bum now reaches the floor.

i worry about the germ issue with him sucking everything... but I have sort of given up now. I can't sterilise the entire house.

I AM an absolute germ freak. I was terrifief when people were squeezing money in DS's little hands when we were out for our first walks (but I would have never said anything, such a sweet and kind thing to do). But now when he puts everything in his mouth... Can't do anything can I? So I've given up.
And I feel sorry for your cat.. DS has been "playing" with w puppy recently (neighbour's, not ours) and the puppy is now avoiding him, won't even come near the buggy.
