Nearly 8mo crawling, rolling over but not sitting up

Has anyone had a baby who would do the same? DS is nearly 8mo, he's been rolling over like mad for a good few weeks, going commando for a couple of weeks and just started crawling. He is not sitting upright unaided though. He is not even interested, as soon as I put him on the floor sitting up he goes on his tummy and "walks" away. HV told me to start putting pillows round him to keep him upright and help him practise keeping the balance. He just pushes the pillows away and wanders off, very pleased with himself. Can someone please reasaure me that it's normal? Or at least almost normal?

He's fine - your HV is mad. Can he sit unaided in your lap and eat something? If so, he just has no interest in sitting anywhere on the floor when THERE IS SOOOO MUCH STUFF TO SEE.

Trust me. He'll learn to sit still when he finds something truly dreadful to chew on. Grin

he sounds exactly like my DS who is now 3.4 years. He could commando crawl really fast (he never really rolled tho) but if i tried to sit him down he would just flip onto his tummy into a crawling position. Obviously he can sit now (although doesn't do it very often!) and i think when he started to sit more was when he was able to get from a crawling position to sitting position and back himself so he would crawl sit for abit, crawl sit for a bit etc. He was and still is really active and has never been one of those kids you can throw a few toys round and they would sit and entertain themselves. I'm still sure he could physically sit at the time he wouldn't do it but just found it boring!!

Word of warning DS was really really hard work from when he started walking till around age 2 as he just used to run off.

Thank you, that's all very reassuring!
ChazDingle, I'm already dreading it when he starts running off. Even now he seems to move waaaay to fast for my liking.
