I used to live in Germany and miss speaking German. I would love to start a German conversation group in Wimbledon. German native speakers would be very welcome as well.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 09:52

Shame I'm in Ealing :)
Good luck though and bump!

Fauve · 07/06/2006 09:56

I wouldn't mind! I did German to degree level, but am appallingly rusty; however ds has just started learning, so the cogs have started moving again. I live in the relevant area, too!

MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 09:58

relevant area = German school and that wonderful shop in Ham? Grin

I'm a German native speaker but rusty too as I've lived here for over 13 years. My brother keeps having heaps of fun when we speak as I smuggle in anglicisms WinkGrin

also there is a German toddler group in Ealing, but I still have to manage to get there myself :)

Fauve · 07/06/2006 10:00

No, I meant in Spargel's area. But what is the wonderful shop in Ham????

MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 10:09

brain not working this morning Grin

There is a German delicatessen shop in Ham :) I'm deliberately avoiding it as I'd probably be buying their stock LOL

emkana · 07/06/2006 10:10

May I pop in to point out this lovely website to you all?

SSSandy · 07/06/2006 10:12

The link doesn't work, Emkana. Have you had your baby by the way?

emkana · 07/06/2006 10:13

No baby yet, no.

So MrsBigD, which foods do you most miss?

SSSandy · 07/06/2006 10:16

Can't drool over sunflower seed bread and mustard I'm afraid.

Ah but we get all that stuff here anyway (very smug and satisfied slightly overweight icon)

MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 10:17

emkana · 07/06/2006 10:17

Oh what I wouldn't give for a German bakery...

all those different breads! So much choice! So delicious!

MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 10:18

How about a monthly shopping/conversation meet in Richmond/Ham? Grin

Sorry for hi-jacking Spargel :)

emkana · 07/06/2006 10:19

Do you know I served Dickmanns Schokokuesse at dd1's birthday party the other day, all the children turned their noses up at them.

Couldn't believe it!

MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 10:20

yumm Dicke Mohrenkoepfe Grin... should have told them it's marshmallow in chocolate and they probably would have eaten them ;)

emkana · 07/06/2006 10:22

When I was younger I used to put them into the microwave for a few seconds until the chocolate melted and the whole thing was triple its size.

Delicious!!!

You can buy them in Lidl - yummy.

Fauve · 07/06/2006 10:25

Hmmm, German conversation group with snacks...

MrsBigD · 07/06/2006 10:31

Oooh good, that's three of us already. No, I haven't seen the German deli - although we do go to the leisure centre pretty often - to work off tasty snacks of the sort bought at delis. Whereabouts is it? We normally lunch at the Polka after vigorous exercising.
