Nightdress for 4yo? with or without knickers? ( not perv, I promise)

I have given my 4yo daughter a nightie for the first time. She is delighted that she is so grown up.
However, she is not particularly 'lady like' in her sitting and rolling around in the living room after bath time. I've therefore told her to wear pants under her nightie.
I'm uncertain whether to tell her to take them off before bed.
What would you do?
A bit of free air time vs. risk of a flash at bedtime and free access to for her to fiddle. Hmm
Advice please?

Knickers with nighties here.

forevergreek · 06/06/2013 13:24

We have pants with pjamas here so would with a nighty too

valiumredhead · 06/06/2013 13:26

No knickers. Why would she have to be 'lady like?' She's 4. Who will be looking at her apart from family?

And definitely no knicks in bed, don't want to encourage thrush.

SilverBellsandCockleShells · 06/06/2013 13:37

Knickers with nighties for my 7 year-old ... the thought had never crossed my mind to do otherwise. Knickers with pyjamas too ...

GoblinGranny · 06/06/2013 13:40

No knickers in bed. Mine often slept in the nude if it was too warm.

MadamNoo · 06/06/2013 13:42

knickers with pyjamas? really? this would never have ocurred to me. doesn't seem very comfy.

valiumredhead · 06/06/2013 13:43

Knickers with pajamas, why?Confused

wheredidiputit · 06/06/2013 13:43

Knickers here too. In fact dd2 has to have clean before bed and then clean in the morning.

allinatizz · 06/06/2013 13:45

Knicks on here. Always have done, always comfy, otherwise you'd have to change pjs daily?

BTW this is always a hot MN topic for some reason!

GobblersKnob · 06/06/2013 13:45

No knickers, why should she be ladylike? Why should anyone, and what is 'ladylike anyway?

Tbh as soon as it's warm chez Gobbler, it's no nightie let alone no knickers.

MirandaWest · 06/06/2013 13:47

No knickers. And if she wants to "fiddle" then what's the problem?

mejon · 06/06/2013 13:48

No pants at night here either but if DD1 is still lounging in her nighty long after getting up at the weekend I do tell her to put some on.

scaevola · 06/06/2013 13:48

My DC are nudists a lot of the time at home anyhow.

I'd go for no knickers. But in practice, DD has always decided for herself and I've never told her one way or t'other.

calypso2008 · 06/06/2013 13:49

knickers here too!

DD insists on them. I know what she means, I feel more secure with knick knacks on. Smile

Pantone363 · 06/06/2013 13:51

No knickers!!!

Fresh air...thrusharama

MrsWembley · 06/06/2013 13:51

Change pjs daily if you don't wear knickers?

Blush

I reckon I'm being silently judged across t'internet as I post...

LedaOfSparta · 06/06/2013 13:52

Pants with PJs? That seems awfully warm around the parts.

Startail · 06/06/2013 13:52

No knickers, unless refusing to get dressed and doing acrobatics on the sofa or the trampoline. There are things the neighbours don't need to see.

Devora · 06/06/2013 13:54

Personally, I would hate to sleep in pants. And as for the 'risk' of a quick flash or a quick fiddle - what are you risking, exactly?

LaRegina · 06/06/2013 13:54

No knicks with nighties - she's only at home with family isn't she?

MumnGran · 06/06/2013 13:57

Knicks' on if still downstairs/outside playing (why would you in a nightie?) but definitely off for bed.
Airing fans, and thrush-phobics in this family!

CheesyPoofs · 06/06/2013 13:59

knickers because I only change her nightwear once a week and 4 year olds are not the best at wiping their bums properly. Also worry about worms though not sure if this is a valid worry...

ilovepowerhoop · 06/06/2013 14:00

no pants with nighties or pj's (sounds a bit sweaty to have both on). DD has been sleeping nude lately though as she says she is too hot.

Me and dh sleep nude too

culturemulcher · 06/06/2013 14:03

Definitely no knickers - the thought of having pants on all night makes me feel queasy. Surely your bits need a bit of air sometime in 24 hours?
