Nightdress for 4yo? with or without knickers? ( not perv, I promise)

I have given my 4yo daughter a nightie for the first time. She is delighted that she is so grown up.
However, she is not particularly 'lady like' in her sitting and rolling around in the living room after bath time. I've therefore told her to wear pants under her nightie.
I'm uncertain whether to tell her to take them off before bed.
What would you do?
A bit of free air time vs. risk of a flash at bedtime and free access to for her to fiddle. Hmm
Advice please?

I hate nighties for this reason. I much prefer shortie jams in hot weather, pants under jams here too.

When i used to stay at my aunts i had to sleep pants less and i could never sleep, i still hate it years later it's so uncomfortable yuk.

DD1 (4.3) asked to sleep nude a couple of nights ago. I said it would be fine but only in her own bed. That stopped her attempting to hop into mine at 4am Grin

I let her wear what she likes at night, within reason.

my dd4 doesn't wear underwear for bed unless shes having cousins etc for a sleepover . much more comfortable without

No knickers, fresh airto the thru'penny bits as my nan would sayGrin

valiumredhead · 06/06/2013 15:30

We all wander round in various states of undress, especially dh Grin

forevergreek · 06/06/2013 15:48

We all wear pants to bed.

Myself and dh usually just pants
Ds's pants or nappy under pjs.

I think it's unhygienic not too. Surely you need to be changing bedding and pjamas every day?
3 year old wee drips and not super great bum wipes are much better in pants than wiped on Bedclothes surely? I I worry about worms spreading too!

It's not a case of modesty, all of us will walk around house naked to and from shower/ make
Breakfast etc , and kids outside in summer. But toddler bum
on grass or wandering around house isn't unhygienic.

I'd honestly never heard of no pants before mn

valiumredhead · 06/06/2013 15:55

I would reply but I'm falling around laughing at the notion of changing bedding if you wear no knickersGrin

Hasitfallendownagain · 06/06/2013 15:58

How much "fresh air" actually manages to flow through a thick duvet though? Confused.

Knickers or pyjama trousers = thin layer of cotton. Duvet and sheets = at least two layers of cotton, plus thick wadding of feathers/polyester. Surely pants or lack of them won't make any significant difference to airflow or temperature.

ShadeofViolet · 06/06/2013 16:02

DD wears knickers when she wears a nightie, because without them she tends to fiddle around Blush

BabyStone · 06/06/2013 16:05

knickers with a nightie, no knickers with pjs. this is what I had to do when I was little and I never got thrush

jambomum · 06/06/2013 17:48

Thank you all.
The 'risk' only involves giggles and possibly awkward questions from her 8yo brother. Not to mention a look of horror on my father's face when visiting if she did a 'Basic Instict' moment.
I think I'll plump for knickers on for lounging around and off for bed.

Thanks ladies XxSmile

My dcs are nudey dudeys but if someone calls in i ask them to put pants on.

Btw what awkward questions would her 8 yo brother ask? Surely he knows the difference between boys and girls at 8?

valiumredhead · 06/06/2013 18:10

Possibly not if everyone is covered upWink

jambomum · 06/06/2013 18:25

Without getting TOO detailed, I can foresee detailed questions about whether the bits on show are merely a willy peeking out, or not?
...well you did ask.
I have had to dispel this theory on a number of occasions given a picture in the family health encyclopedia.

I'm with forevergreek. All year pants here. Noone-s ever had thrush! I think it's more hygienic and rates washing pjs daily etc. Probably depends on what you're used to!

tumbletumble · 06/06/2013 19:04

DD wears pants under nightie but nothing under pyjamas (her choice).

I wear knickers under nightie (and pyjamas, but I don't often wear pyjamas).

Neither of us have ever had thrush.

tootdelafruit · 06/06/2013 19:08

Why is that an awkward question though? If youve had to answer it before and hes still asking i think maybe you havent explained it properly. Maybe its time for a proper talk about it

No pants under nighties/PJs when I was a kid. Our own DCs sleep nude, as do we, so no dilemma here.

EldonAve · 07/06/2013 11:52

pants with pjs here for kids after threadworms!

Moonstorm · 07/06/2013 17:40

Ds1 wears a large t-shirt and no pants. Runs around like that in the garden as well at times when it is hot.

Girl and boys bits are similar. The clitoris is potentially like a penis, and only the head of it peeps out.

Growlithe · 07/06/2013 17:43

Knickers with nighties ever since one of them had threadworms.

Moonstorm · 07/06/2013 18:28

I would only put pants on them during a bout of threadworms, once treated and gone, I would let them wear no pants again.
