oh god, spent the morning at the hospital, then dd3 failed her newborn hearing check and I burst into tears

now the health visitor is 'concerned' about me and coming to check on me next week.

I am tired and very upset about dd3's hearing test - surely a blub is allowed?

if you need a private recommendation, we took dd to a fab ENT who specialises in hearing (also did a private hearing test at the hospital). Not sure if he does babies but if you are stuck, then let me know.

Elibean · 16/05/2006 18:11

Yes I would have cried.

I cried when they stuck a tube down dd's newborn nose into her newborn stomach in case she had a gastric blockage (I had excess fluid, and a gut instinct dd was fine - saw their point, but grr). I cried when they stuck a needle in the back of her hand because they wanted to give her antibiotics just in case of something (she was fine). And I cried inbetween too, and I nearly cried when the HV did the PND test thingy weeks later because I was knackered. Luckily my HV is an old hand and knew the difference between a good cry and psychosis (and trusted that I did, too).

Agree with all thats said on inaccuracy of hearing tests on newborns - used to work with Deaf people, and heard loads of stories to that end.

Congrats on dd3's arrival - bet she's gorgeous.

meant to say thanks foxy for that link

dh suggests we leave it for the time being as it is upsetting me and take her for a private audiology test at 6 months

soupnds good to me

Good for you Enid, I would wait to if I were you. Let things calm down a bit for you.

LadyTophamHatt · 16/05/2006 20:13

I've been thinking about this on and off all day and I think it's outrageous that they do hearing tests so early now, Obviously I'm along way from a professional but I would hazard a guess that most newborns fail, especailly when they have a cold.

Enid, I bet 90% of us would have told them to stop too. I know I would have.

I think it's great idea to wait and I have to say when I read that your dh said you'll wait and go private I thought he sounded like a knight on shining armour coming to your rescue.
I am hopeless romantic at times.....
I've heard he's quite dashing too so the image is completeGrinWink

idiot hv.

i know an absolutely fantastic audiologist but nowhere near you as in sutton...but he is superb. will see you private and then if there is problem he'll make you nhs...he is that groovy.

i went with ds as was convinced ds was deaf. turned out he had some glue ear and it went away by itself. i guarantee you that your dd is fine....

you poor thing.

beety · 16/05/2006 20:40

he was so absolutely fab with dd that I happily recommend him to everyone

pooka · 16/05/2006 20:45

Weird. DH's family firm has a factory in Romania too. Got some extremely dodgy bright red Dracula vodka in rafia case a la naff restaurant. Binned it.
