when did you put baby in own room?

just wondering when you first let baby sleep in a room alone. DD is 3 months and she always sleeps in same room as me, even for naps. She is fast outgrowing her moses basket and I guess it will soon be time to put her in her cot. Did you have the cot in your room and did she go straight into room alone and at what age? I naively thought she'd be in moses basket til about 6 months!

Both DCs stayed in our bedroom until they were sleeping all night (about 10 months), though I started putting them down for naps upstairs in their cots at about 3m.

My DS's cot won't fit into our room but he's in a travel cot instead. I bought a proper mattress for it though as the one it came with was hard and thin. He's nearly 4 months and will be in with us until at least 6 months longer if I get my way. I can't imagine him moving into his own room

The official advice is 6months....

both mine were in our room until 7/8 months. We managed to fit the cot along the bottom of the bed

I always put DS in his own room for naps from the day he came home from hospital - it never occured to me not to didn't have mumsnet in those days . We did have him in our room for the first three-four weeks but then moved him to his own room.

I know this is not recommended and I am used to being flamed about it.

DD is still in our room at 11 months :)

DD1 was 6 weeks, DD2 10 weeks.

I only became aware of the guidelines when DD1 was 3. Its not always practical though is it? I wasn't comfortable co-sleeping and the cot wouldn't fit in our room. So to adhere to the guidelines we'd have had to cram DD2 in her Moses basket upto 6 months.

My DS went into his own room at 8 weeks, with a movement sensor monitor. I'm due my next in 8 weeks, and I'm planning on putting her in her own room after about two weeks - again with a movement sensor.

I'm a ridiculously light sleeper, and I just can't sleep with the littlies in the room (I do when DS is sick and sometimes as a treat). And I figure it's a choice between feeling exhausted during the day and not being able to do much - or feeling happy and well rested and being fun! I think some mums are better than me on little sleep...I need my sleep big time!

Straight away for practical reasons - we couldn't keep the cat away from baby in our room and therefore i was completely unable to sleep due to a fear of DS being suffocated by cat! For the first 8 week I slept in the nursery with him on a camp bed though.

Pregnant with second now and hopefully will be in a bigger house and considering a baby nest but I think I will still move DC2 into own room before 6 months.

Each to there own but I know with DS when we did share after about 4 months he was so noisy and fidgety it would keep me awake and he would wake up to the slightest movement from me - I would be lying there stock still peter died to move because I thought it would wake him up!

From the outset. That way I was only woken up when she actually cried and I heard from my bedroom, and also it meant that I did not interfere with her unnecessarily at every little peep and disturbed her.

From a couple of days old . (They are 15 and 13 now)

First night home. He would sleep in our room till 11pm feed then moved into his own cot till 4am ish when id bring him in with us. Our room wasn't big enough for even a Moses basket let alone a cot and ds out grew his Moses basket in a month!

The next one due in June will be a similar story but going to try and squeeze basket in between radiator and bed as we won't have the heating on but once its too big for basket it will be in its own room!

8 weeks! Like you, I thought he'd be in with us for 6 months but he grew quickly and sleeps like a spatchcock chicken, so was constantly waking himself up in the moses basket. Moved him to his cotbed (he looked tiny!) and he started sleeping through the night. He's now 7 months and is still a great sleeper. I worried A LOT in the first few weeks after we moved him, but it worked for us.

Dd1 grew out of her moss basket at about 5 months and had to go into her own room then as the cot wouldn't fit in our room. She didn't sleep through until around 7 months so those two months of night wakings/feeds were a lot less comfortable for me than when she was in our room.

Dd2 is coming up to 7 months and is still in with us in her co sleeper crib (best thing I ever bought!) and I don't really intend to move her until she either a) sleeps through or b) grows out of it.

At 13 months DD is still in our room and likely to be there for the next year due to space reasons. Also we can't see a reason to kick her out. Like having her there and the cuddles in bed in the morning :-)

Moses basket and then cot in our room until he was about 18 months. Mainly because I needed to wake up in the night and hear him breathing.

Oh, and we had SO many comments, as we live near the sea and have people to stay alot over summer and for some reasons some people -DH's friends felt the need to comment.

when we did move him into his own room, we had no issues or transition problems at all.

We had our last baby in a cradle by our bed until he was 9 months old. Co slept half of the time and was dreading putting him in his own room because it was a floor down and I thought that being up and down the stairs would be a nightmare. But literally after the first night he slept through and has done every since so going to try doing the exact same thing with the one on his way. When we have been to stay at other houses we have had baby in a travel cot in our room and I barely got a wink as he is so very active in his sleep, plus wakes up, wriggles, crawls about but then self settles so glad we finally went to his own room but do think in our case he started sleeping through because he had the security and contentment from all the in bed cuddles at first. Absolutely whatever works best for individual parents though.

6 weeks, DD is a light sleeper and liked to sleep with her arms outstretched, every time she hit the crib bars she woke herself up. We all slept much better with her in the cot in her own room.

I put my baby in her own room at 8 weeks - still in the moses basket and put it in the cot. She's quite tall and had outgrown the basket at 11 weeks so then went into the cot in a sleeping bag.

It was mainly because she was doing longer stretches of sleep but I couldn't sleep at all because she was so loud lots of snuffles, grunts and groans! I've always used a video monitor though and still use it now she's 6 months so I can see what's going on - it's so clear I can even see her chest rise to check her breathing!

Just before the recommend six months with both. Basically when both kept the other awake.

DD2 still BF and co-slept for bits of the night and I can't remember when she slept through. She was very little bother.

Around 8 months, we probably should have done it a bit sooner. Sleeping definitely improved (for all of us) afterwards.

6 weeks and 2 weeks. I couldn't sleep with them in our room.

Everyone else from Nct group has moved into their own room but I haven't. I wanted to wait until he slept through which he is now as it's so much easier to get fun out his Moses,feed and put back.

However, he is now sleeping through and although he's 15 Weeks I don't feel ready to nice him. I like having him next to me but I have started putting him down for naps in his own room, first in his Moses and next week in his Moses in his cot in preparation as I know I'll have to do it sometime.

4 months. He grew out of the Moses basket at 7 weeks so we had a travel cot in our room until 4 months and then moved him and slept with both doors wide open (I sleep on his side of the bed, tiny house, he's probably about 8 feet away from me when in his cot!
