What do you do with nappies?

Pooey disposable nappies, that is.

We've been tootling along quite well with a tall and skinny pedal bin in DS's room, emptying it every 3 days or so, but now he's well established on solids the room is starting to, well, hum a bit. I know some people take dirty nappies straight to the outside bin, which is laudable, but I'm far too lazy to do that that isn't very practical for us.

What do you do?

We have a small pedal bin so it is emptied frequently but poo nappies have to go straight outside. There is no way I would be able to leave them in any inside bin.

A lidded bin lined with a carrier bag that gets emptied each evening.

Dirty nappies are double bagged and put in the waste paper bin which is emptied daily.

Bagged up into about 3 disposable carrier bags and straight to the bin!

Empty the nappy bin daily. Eww to doing it every 3 days!!!

Keep a carrier bag on the back of the back door and fill it with nappies. When full walk to the bin.

I couldn't keep them inside... !

I also use a lot of cloth nappies for this reason - wash and the poo is gone! (Well poo gets flushed down the toilet but the washing gets them super fresh!)

Generally empty the bin every evening, but tbh it might be every 2 if they're not too bad. If it is a real corker of a nappy then I will take it straight out. However she is in childcare a lot, so we might only have one lighter dirty nappy a day. The baby's room runs warm as it has the boiler in it, so the window is open a lot even in winter, that might help with the smell.

Or you can follow my parents example when DD is staying with them, and chuck the bag out of the window on to the patio and collect and bin them all later!

We use cloth so the poo goes in the loo on a liner. The nappy pail has a mesh bag which has tea tree oil shaken on it. No bad smells

Oh this fecking app is possessed tonight!

DS is in nursery full time so during the week, the bin may only have two or three pooey nappies in it after three days. Not nearly so bad as it might be, I promise!

Still, maybe it's the sitting and festering that's turning the air slightly green.

I would dearly love to have used cloth but both DH and DS wouldn't have a bar of them. Can't remember which one of them complained the most on the cloth nappy trials we did

We use cloth mainly but disposables overnight, if we do get a pooey disposable we chuck the majority of the poo straight into the loo then it gets bagged up and put in the bathroom bin.

Meant to say we live in a second floor flat so trying to take all pooey nappies outdoors immediately would be totally impractical!

We have a nappy bin - cost a tenner from boots, and you have to buy refills for the liner, but is very good at containing any smell. Think the brand is angel care.

We have an old-style bin (non-wheelie variety) directly beside the back door. It has a heavy duty bin-bag and is used solely for nappies. We gave scented bin liners in a bin in the bedroom. Once it's full it gets taken to the nappy-bin by the back door. Normally 2-3 days. Having said that, pooey ones are brought down straight away so there's never a hum in the room.

My 2 older DS's share bunks in the same room as DS3 so it would be totally unfair to NOT keep on top of this TBH.

We have a dedicated nappy bin service in our borough so there is a wheely bin solely for nappies right outside the door and they go straight out.

To take a dirty nappy out after every poo:

hold baby in one arm, dirty nappy in other hand
fiddle with stair gates at top and bottom of stairs when descending while trying not to drop baby or shitty nappy into jaws of gleefully waiting dogs
pissing about locating back door key no-handed
resting dirty nappy on kitchen counter while door is unlocked
stepping out into freezing cold or piss pouring rain to walk around to side of house where bins are

That's not going to happen, not three or four times a day at weekends. It especially won't happen for the occasional night poo he does.

Thinking proper nappy bin might be worth looking at.

we bag all nappies and put them out the back door to be taken to the bin outside. every nappy goes out there. they smell too quickly...even ones with just wee in.

We put dirty nappies in scented nappie bags n into the main household bin which is emptied every other day but window were bin is nearly always open x
