Lippy on to give birth?!

Just caught up with One Born Every Minute on Sky Plus and couldn't believe that girl turning up in full make up to give birth! Is it me or is this incredibly vain?!! My looks were the last thing I was worried about but I asked another mum about this and she said she insisted in packing her hair dryer when she went to the hospital snd had her bikini line waxed as near to the due date as poss! Am I missing something - does everyone worry about what they look like after giving birth?!

Well I went into hospital to be induced wearing my usual full face of make-up, and took it with me intending to use it while I was there. Didn't use any of it though.

TBH, I don't really see the problem with a woman wearing lipstick when she is in labour, if that makes her feel better about herself then why not?

Don't really see a problem, maybe she put her makeup on as usual, then went into labour though? I think I had mascara on probably, can't remember though. Some people can't bear going out without makeup, wherever they happen to be going.

Why shouldn't she?

I wish I'd bothered to make a bit of an effort. All photos of me after I'd had DD are awful. Red and shiny with crap hair.

Good for her! It wasn't my first thoughts to be honest...

I always painted my toe nails and had my hair coloured around my due date - made me feel happy and a bit less bleurgh.

Is that the one with the eyelashes? If it made her feel more comfortable then good for her. I won't bother with makeup, but I've never looked at a picture of a mother and newborn and thought 'her hair looks shit' so I don't mind about looking rough in the photos either.

I'm sure she had all the normal worries and feelings as well, she just had them whilst wearing lipstick.

I had my bikini waxed before my due date otherwise it may have been hard for the midwife to fight her way through my bush to see anything

I also had my contact lenses in and some make up on. It helped pass the time before we left for the hospital really. Once I was in labour I couldn't really give a shit. But I was thankful that my bikini line was done as about 50 people had a good view of it during the whole joyful 36 hour process. £28 well spent. It's not been done since the birth though (nearly 6 months on...)

I didn't take my make-up off to give birth.

Wearing make-up is always vain, whether in labour or not.

I didnt wear make up but i took my hair dryer in when i was going to be induced and i washed and dried my hair every morning without fail, some of the other girls couldn't believe it because they didnt even get out of bed to have a shower which i think is a bit minging, you can still slob out and be clean

I was in for 11 nights and did it every day, i had my dd by c section at 00.04 and as soon as they let me stand up at lunch time it was the first thing i did

Never wore any make up though

I started getting contractions around 5pm and ended up in maternity unit at 11pm (emcs at midnight!) As I wear make up everyday, and obviously i didn't know i would be going in labour on this particular day, I had my normal make up on (no lippy cos I don't wear it, but all the rest). Had hair dryer with me too and used it everyday (i have to wash my hair everyday, or i feel grotty). Was in 6 days in the end.

As I wear make up every day (i hate being seen outside the house without it on) I made sure that I had my make up bag with me, and would do so again.

Yep, I woke up in pain at 7, got my older son off to school, then had a bath and shaved my legs (etc), dried and straightened my hair, got dressed and put some make up on, just like I would any other morning. (Think that was the last time for at least a year that I did, tho!) He was born at 1, so my hair and chops still looked fine and I look better in the photo's than I did the time before, when I was 16 years younger!

I had a haircut the day I gave birth.

(OK, so I went into labour 16 days early, it wasn't exactly planned as an act of personal grooming, but still.)

Hell yeah. I had waxes, pedicures etc. At the first pangs of labour I did my hair and put on waterproof makeup.
Vain? Yep. I knew oh would facebook a photo within 5 minutes of birth.
I still looked shit though. Maybe not as shit as I should have.

I looked nice went I went in. Within about 20 minutes I was naked.

If you want to wear makeup, go for it. It's not vain in the least.

One of my DC's had an induced birth. It was great, I shaved, did my nail varnish, moisturised and did my hair.

Bikini line waxed, hair washed, make up on, toe nails painted, that's me.

Oh forgpot to say I was induced so had time :)

I had my hair cut the day before I was induced. Is a good job I did because that was over 10 months ago and I haven't been back yet.

Never wore it during it my home birth, but my DH waxed me a week before due dates.

For twins I just stuck my hair up and shoved in my headphones, I couldn't care less what I looked like but afterwards when my family visited, I did my hair and got dressed.
