Skinny jeans on young children?

Am I the only one who feels like they are grown up, miniature adult clothing?

If you agree, what age do you think they are appropiate?

Well they are the only jeans that actually fit my five year old!

TimothyClaypoleLover · 12/03/2013 15:23

Just bought some for my 3 year old and tbh they just look like normal jeans. I didn't buy them purely because they were called "skinny" jeans, bought them as they were in the sale and my DD needed some jeans. Not quite sure what you are getting at OP. Isn't most clothing miniature adult clothing?

Flowerydems · 12/03/2013 15:23

My son was born with clubfoot so because of casts he has skinny calves and ankles, the skinny jeans look better on him cause of his shape, he looks like he's swimming in others x

There used to be very clear definition between childrens clothing and adult clothes now you can have your outfits matching mini adults. childrens clothes are becoming too grown up but sizes of cute outfits stop at 18mths id loved to have dressed my DD whose nearly 3 in more babyish style clothes but they simply do her sizes

They just seem a bit grown up to me. Too trendy and fashionable.

They are great, tuck in boots, don't get walked on if too long and don't get covered in bike oil.

Booyhoo · 12/03/2013 15:28

I dont see the problem. Surely you could say that about all children's clothing? Confused

Startail · 12/03/2013 15:28

I'm 45 and sitting here in skinny navy trousers.
I'm a size 16 and certainly neither trendy or fashionable.

They are just comfortable and no bother with any of my boots.

MooseBeTimeForCoffee · 12/03/2013 15:29

I accidentally ordered some for 14 month old DS. Next ship to Canada. They are lovely and get lots of compliments. The only thing I find is that they're a bit tricky to get on as I usually put my hand through the leg, grab his foot and pull them on. Skinny leg holes make it about tricky, as I can't get my hand in IYSWIM.

ScentedNappyHag · 12/03/2013 15:29

I think they're more practical for running, jumping, climbing trees toddlers than the more baggy affairs the end up ripped and caught in things.
But my nan agrees with you OP and gets a severe case of the tuts when she sees DD dressed in them Grin

Whydobabiescry · 12/03/2013 15:29

IMO there's nothing wrong with skinny jeans, they look great on my ds. There's plenty of really inappropriate clothing for kids which I hate but skinny jeans are pretty harmless.

MadCap · 12/03/2013 15:29

I think young kids are the only ones they look good on. Most adults look ridiculous in them. Grin

GreyTS · 12/03/2013 15:30

Seriously, trendy and fashionable? Skinny jeans have been around for at least a decade now, they are the best jeans for my kids, tucked into wellies and no soggy ends, winter boots fit over them nothing to do with fashion. Tracksuit bottoms with inappropriate wording on the bum, thongs, padded bras etc for children, those are disturbing not skinny jeans.

MadCap · 12/03/2013 15:31

In serious though, my dd is really skinny and skinny jeans and leggings are the only things that fit her.

RugBugs · 12/03/2013 15:31

I don't particularly like it but gap skinnys are the only trousers that are long enough in the leg and stay up.
Even with adjustable elastic pulled in as tight as I can get it next trousers still fall down and they look ridiculous because of all the bunching up.
DD wears 12-18 month skirts with 3-4y tights (or 4-5 boden) she's not even particularly slight, just tall.

5madthings · 12/03/2013 15:33

My dd has some in yellow and some in green, both from m&s they are soft and have a bit of stretch so easy to run and climb in. They look fab and tuck into wellies etc easily. She still looks like a toddler imo with a nice top they are practicle and comfy for her.

Also my boys are skinny minnies, other styles are just too big and dont stay up etc, skinnies fit them really well.

MadCap · 12/03/2013 15:33

seriousness

ChocolateCoins · 12/03/2013 15:35

Nothing wrong with skinny jeans. I like them on my DD and they are more practical. Don't really get what the problem is? Hmm

SizzleSazz · 12/03/2013 15:39

They are just more robust leggings surely? Confused

Gap superskinnies are the only ones which fit 6YO DD1 here too. Tall and long legged like her dad

nappyaddict · 12/03/2013 15:39

Perhaps we aren't talking about the same things?

I saw some on a child struggling to climb at soft play and they looked very restrictive and uncomfortable.

Straight leg jeans on the other hand I adore.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 12/03/2013 15:42

Maybe what you saw wasn't skinny jeans but just some jeans that were too small for the child in question!!

nappyaddict · 12/03/2013 15:43

Maybe, but they did fit around the waist and were the right length.

OP posts:
pictish · 12/03/2013 15:44

I like them. My dd is a proper skinny minnie and the skinny fit jeans are the ones that fit best. I tuck them into boots and team with a tunic. She looks good!

If you don't like them, don't buy them.

MortifiedAdams · 12/03/2013 15:45

OP skinny jeans are pretty much just leggings made of denim. Leggings are bloody brilliant kids clothes - fit well, comfy, easy to get on and off.
