Sitting up pushchair before 6 months?

DD is too big for the carrycot attachment we bought with her pushchair, but the instructions say don't use the upright seat attachment until 6 months. She is 4.5 months with good head control -- is it ok to try the sitting up seat or is there a clear reason not to? Thanks

I popped mine in at 5 months as she seemed to have the head control. You can always lie baby back. My baby was bored staring at the sky.

My 16 week old is now sitting up in hers.

I have left the pram liner on for now as its warmer, and shes always supported with blankets, but she was so bored and whiny facing me and lying flat.

Shes not completely upright, but enough to see out. Tbh I think its fine!

pineapplesherbert · 08/03/2013 15:48

Ah! And does she prefer it? Mine is bored and whiny too (not to mention wedged in like a sack of potatoes to too small carrycot!)

Yes. The transformation was instant.

It was in the middle of Lidls. She was whining so I flipped the hood round and turned her round (bebecar pram from 4 years ago) and put the seat up right there and then and she just stopped crying. Sat the rest of the way round as good as gold!

Shes been in it since and hasnt cried once. Before that I hated taking her anywhere because if she wasnt sleeping she was crying!

Shes a nosy baby anyway. Has to see whats going on :o

pineapplesherbert · 08/03/2013 16:08

Yes mine's the same. I think I will try it thanks ladies!

I had resorted to using the car seat on wheels before 5 months. My baby is a skinny wee thing so couldn't have gone in before she did.

forevergreek · 08/03/2013 17:43

tbh i wouldn't. mainly because babies do all their growing whilst asleep. so sleeping in car seats/ baby seats/ pushchair non flat seats isnt recommended for more than a short period of time. (i think its like 30 mins in a car seat)

forevergreek · 08/03/2013 17:50

the icandy cherry carrycot should be 70cm long. an average 2 year old is 86cm according to red book, so i cant imagine many 4.5 month olds really being too long.
maybe add a baby pillow to slightly raise head

ZuleikaD · 08/03/2013 17:50

My two were both in a recline (rather than lying) position from 3 months.

pineapplesherbert · 08/03/2013 17:51

Seriously she is 70cm long!

I've got a strawberry. Interesting all the people on this thread had to dump the carry cot before 6 months. Obviously sizing is a problem with I candy. I'm not sure how much more wear we will get out of pushchair as babies head near top at 10 months

woopsidaisy · 08/03/2013 20:48

I never had any of mine lying flat in the pram/carrycot. I put a pillow in and had it like a reclined seat IYKWIM. So the were cosy and could see around them. If they fell asleep I pulled the pillow flat with them on it, pulled up hood and they slept. DS is nearly 7 mo and still likes this for walks. The angle of pillow can be changed, is at 90' now.

ZuleikaD · 09/03/2013 06:06

I did generally prefer the sling, though, tbh - I like to have my hands free.

KatAndKit · 10/03/2013 09:31

I changed at just after 5 months as DS developed pram rage. It made a massive difference to his enjoyment level. I just used the stroller attachment fully reclined to begin with.

MamaBlue4 · 10/03/2013 16:41

I have the City jogger mini GT double, and I didn't see the point in buying 2 carrycots for them when they'll just grow out of them pretty soon (twins are just over 5months) so they are in the recline position with head support for extra safety.

whatsoever · 10/03/2013 18:14

My son is a big 'un and he's been in the seat since 3.5 months. He was touching the ends of the carrycot! I just put it on the most reclined position & have the foot muff liner in. He's fine and prefers looking around. I still have him facing me so everyone's a winner.
