Kids aside, how do you feel?

What have they recommended you do?

If only you lived round 'ere. You could courier the girls here Grin

Notgrownupinmyhead · 06/12/2012 19:27

PS. My humidifier is from Argos. Its the Vicks one.

ValiumQueen · 06/12/2012 21:21

They are not cheap! Will look at reviews on amazon. Thanks.

I am ok. It is harder at night as DH is as much use as a chocolate teaspoon after bedtime. Last night jumping out of a window seemed like possibly a good idea for the briefest on moments, so I woke DH and told him this. He was then quite helpful. Last night he had two grand feeds and puked them back. He was then feeding all night until about six. Thankfully DH got the girls up so I got a couple of hours sleep.

He has had a better day and is asleep in cot next to me so please God we will have a better night. He has been smiling and alert tonight which has been lovely. He has also drunk enough to sink a small battleship. I also pray that stays down.

He is 6 weeks today. My first slept through at this point so I was spoiled. The second was sleeping through at 7 weeks.

His illness has been very scary. I know there are so many other things that are worse, but breathing is right up there in the list of important things, and watching your baby in pain and clearly very frightened takes its toll.

I am very grateful for my friends on MINUTE x

M N! Fucking autocorrect! Not MINUTE! Grr!

Notgrownupinmyhead · 06/12/2012 21:43

Autocorrect is fkn hilarious. Envy It. And the green hearts.

6weeks? Shite, that had gone fast. Have you converted the cot into a co-sleeper stylee one?

What about wet towels on the radiator? That might 'moisten' (I hate that word) the air a bit.

I bet tired is an understatement for you at the mo. Hmm good time to stuff your gish with biscuits and cake.

You have been spoiled! Boy1 was 7wks when he did 7-7 but never slept in the day and now at the age if 4yrs has turned into a nightmare. Boy2 is now 13months and has just in the past month apart from the odd night started sleeping through and new boy is 12wks on Sunday and slept 10.30-8am but Im altering his naps/waking so he settles at an earlier time ready for when he goes in with boy2 (fatty) next year (and so I can have a couple of hours peace in the evening!).

Which wrap did you want? Velcro or studs? PM me your address and Ill send it when I can get out.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 06/12/2012 22:06

Whatever you do don't look at:

Www.alvababy.com or like them on FB Grin

They have more prints!!!!!!!!!

LeBFG · 07/12/2012 07:16

VQ: you've probably felt like you've aged two years in the last few days. I attribute extra wrinkles and grey hairs to DS's early days Grin.

Totally normal to feel a lack of control in the middle of the night esp with the illness stress (my DH finally got out of bed a couple of nights to help in similar situations). At least J's feeding well which is great if his breathing isn't tops (even if he pukes, some will be going in). THis is where bf is SOOO fantastic. You feel like you're doing something to really help and J will be suckling loads for comfort as well as fluids. He needs the comfort and you're providing it. Plus those mummy hormones will be helping you keep calmer and more relaxed. I bloody love bf.

It sounds like he's turned the corner now thank goodness. They return to being right-as-rain so quickly too.

If DH is useless at night, commandeer him for daytime shifts so you get some time to nap with J. You need to catch up on your sleep. Forget everything else. As Notgrownup says, make sure you do keep well fed and watered - you'll be needing it, it'll make you feel better too.

Bluetinkerbell · 07/12/2012 13:28

Hi ladies, can I join in? my DD3 is 3 weeks old today and we've just started using cloth. :)
Using mostly pocket nappies during the day, haven't done a night in cloth yet. Not sure what to use, I've got lollipop bamboo nappies, but do I keep that on all night or use pockets and change her like I've been doing with disposables?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 07/12/2012 14:49

Hi, Blue ds will be 3 weeks on Monday :) I get about 5-6 hours from a Lollipop/other random fitted overnight, but can also get the same from a prefold-stuffed pocket. He's more likely to cry than leak - my few leaks have been my/dp's errors eg vest to small rather than a nappy fail iyswim

ValiumQueen · 07/12/2012 15:33

notgrownup not converted the cot yet as we have it raised at the head. Not that the little cherub will sleep in it for more than 10 mins. Poppas please - will PM you, and sort the liners and fudge ASAP. Have you bought from that website? Looks awesome, but with dollars is it complicated? How much is postage? Lovely prints, and small baby nappies too apparently. Could cost money. Hmm.

BFG wise words. Thank you.

blue hello! . DS was in a pocket (Alva) for 11 hours last night with no leaks. I had a bamboo booster in it and he seems to not poo at night any more. I did not want to move him as he is having coughing fits and has vomited the last few nights. He spent the night with a tit in his mouth, but is not yet back up to peeing for Scotland amounts. I usually use well boosted bamboo at night, and change at each feed to wake him up so he eats more. Once he sleeps longer, I am confident they will last.

Typical. He has just vommed just as I had typed he hadn't! He is improving slowly though.

I am tired beyond belief, but did at least rest last night.

Bluetinkerbell · 07/12/2012 15:44

Thanks for the advice! I guess it will have to be trial and error, will see how we get along tonight.

VQ we've got vomming here too, started using infacol again, but not sure whether it really helps.

LeBFG · 07/12/2012 17:22

Hi Blue. I was going to ask this your first baby, but then saw DD3. Congrats on your new daughter. It'll be fun finding out about fluff. I'm interested to hear how many of you are using AIOs/pockets with the newborns. I feel I'm missing a trick here.

Lovely prints, and small baby nappies too apparently. Could cost money. Hmm. Do I sense a spending splurge coming on VQ?? Grin. Next month I have about 800 euros plopped into my bank account for the future DD....have itchy fingers at the thought.

Is there a lot of D and V going around at the moment or what? Poor little newbies. Hope it doesn't spread to the rest of the family.

Bluetinkerbell · 07/12/2012 18:02

BFG yes DD3 indeed, although I only have DD1 who's 4 and DD3 to cuddle as DD2 sadly is an angel baby. She died last year when I was 20 weeks pregnant. So DD3 is my precious rainbow baby :)
I'm using Tiny Nippers newborn pockets and Bumgenius XS. Got some Bitti Tutto Smalls, but they have a bit of leg gape still. She's 8lbs8oz now.

ValiumQueen · 07/12/2012 19:11

blue an extra booster would possibly rectify the leg gape.

BFG if I had to get rid of all my stash except one type, I would keep my Alvas. The new prints are lovely. I have also spotted a leopard. Might ask Santa.

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 07/12/2012 19:31

6lb?oz ds is in btp Alva and Babyland cheapies, well stuffed they fit fine! I use a small prefold folded in thirds lengthways then doubled over at the willy end; they last 4+ hours, he'll be crying from dampness before they leak. I fold so the boosting is between his legs not up to the waist to make sure there's a nice snug fit there too. Think I'm doing it right Xmas Confused I'll use a bigger prefold and add a booster if he starts weeing more in future.

VQ, I have a cheetah in poppers, mmao?

Notgrownupinmyhead · 07/12/2012 22:41

Hi Blue, welcome to the Fluff Side!!!! Bamboo all the way for me for my 2 through the night. But they piddle LOADS and fart lots too, my fault apparently. Thankfully neither of them poop through the night so I don't change them til the morning.

VQ, send the stuff when Mr Boy is better. Ive not bought anything yet from the Alva website, I just Googled them and that and the FB link came up so I 'liked' them (they might have random comps). I think the prices are the same on the site as on Ebay. I've spent my SMP for the month now and got Dave 9 new ones, really wanted the Spiderman one but it had sold out.

Im de-staining Daves newish baby poop stained items on the windowsil and even in this weather the UV is doing its trick, taking a bit longer but its not the end of the world. So the Cenabite has a nappy on his head!

I was at the school Christmas Fayre this afternoon at DS1's school. It was chaotic and got more strange looks from people wondering where the crying was coming from as when you look at the buggy you only see the older baby then have to get them to look underneath. Ha. I like confusing people.

Is anyone having problems viewing threads on an Iphone/Ipad? I cant flip the thread to read bottom upwards.

BFG, windfalls are always ace. Its free Worldwide shipping from Alva if that helps! The nappies are £3.99 and would work out at ?4.95 ish.

LeBFG · 08/12/2012 07:03

OK - I'm getting sucked in. I'm building up a list of Alvas on ebay. They come with microfibre soakers. Are these fine or do you stuff with your own bamboo? Shall I order some bamboo soakers on top?

LeBFG · 08/12/2012 08:24

OK - spontaneous buy. I bought 1 newborn nappy in lavander and 1 tiger bamboo (DS loves tigers) to try plus a pair of leg warmers and 3 leggings. See how they are. If I like them I can always buy more at no shipping cost (can't believe it really).

Notgrownupinmyhead · 08/12/2012 10:04

Mine came with microfibre inserts and sometimes eg before nap time ill stuff a bamboo booster in there too.

I love the look of the leggings too. The wetbags are good too. Small enough for about 3-4 nappies so good for a day out.

You bfg can be the tester of leggings :)

Bluetinkerbell · 08/12/2012 12:41

We managed from 11pm till 7am in lollipop bamboo, it was completely soaked through with an extra bamboo booster, but no leaks :)

LeBFG · 08/12/2012 12:46

That was good going blue. What wrap did you use?

LeBFG · 08/12/2012 12:46
Bluetinkerbell · 08/12/2012 13:13

Just the lollipop wrap.
Practical question, when you put dirty nappies in bucket, do you take out the boosters or leave them in?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 08/12/2012 13:26

I take them out before - better than sorting through a stinky bucket plus dp forgets Xmas Wink

LeBFG · 08/12/2012 13:37

Do you all use buckets? I did to begin with as I was changing so often. Now though I just store them in the washing machine. I basically do a load a day and throw in some clothes too (does this make me scuzzy?). The Alva website says to wash at 30C - seems very low. What do you Alva users wash at (I think VQ said she washes all at 40C)?
