Just measured dd (8.5mo) height and while we knew she was long, she is 99th centile according to her age.

She is a great chatter but still.not.crawling or bum shuffling....could this be why?

Anyone else with a long 'un? Wink

DD is off the chart for height and weight

GnocchiNineDoors · 31/08/2012 12:49

Just weighed her and (factoring in the fact its at home and therefore not exact), shes between 50/75th centile.

My DD is 7mo and is 95th centile for height and weight. She's just started crawling but is the first of our NCT to do so despite being almost 2 months younger than the others. At 8.5mo I think your DD is still in the realm of what is 'normal'.

Are you and your DP taller than average? I'm 5'6" and DH is 6'1" so we were never going to have a titch... Smile

It's not that late for crawling anyway?
but yes I had 99th centile ds2 (he's not that tall anymore but at that age he was) and he was a late crawler, walker and all of that
ds1 was about 91st and he was not crawling at 8.5 but was not very late - about 9.5 he crawled, cant remember exactly
ds3 i have no idea what his percentile even was as havent checked him but similar to the others and he crawled about 10 months

Flojo1979 · 31/08/2012 12:51

My DS now 7 has always been tall. Didn't walk til he was 2 and still abit uncoordinated, no idea if that's anything to do with height, didn't give it much thought.

booflebean · 31/08/2012 12:52

DS is off the chart for both and always has been.

He crawled at 7m and was walking totally independently at 9m so I don't think it caused him any problems!

I don't think 8.5m is late though?

JoandMax · 31/08/2012 12:58

DS2 is really tall, top percentile and always has been. He's 2.5 years now and showing no signs of stopping! He crawled at 9 months and walked at 13 months so completely average compared to his peers but a lot earlier than expected as he was very poorly until 6 months so his size certainly didn't hold him back.....

DS1 is around 50th/75th for height and was earlier at crawling and walking.

DH and I are average height (me 5.5 and DH 5.11) so we have no idea how DS2 is so tall, he is also a tube fed baby who has had severe feeding problems - I dread to think how huge he'd be if he'd fed normally!

GnocchiNineDoors · 31/08/2012 13:00

Im a titch at 5'2 but dh is 6'2.

Im not.really sure of ages.for crawling - only have DNeice to compare who is whizzing around (and not.much older)

Ds1 was off the chart for height at birth (61cm) and has remained off the chart. He crawled at 9 months & walked at 14 months so fairly normal. He is a bit uncoordinated tho - struggles with climbing walls etc.

But he's had a sudden surge in height recently - he's now beyond off the chart so i'm going to have a chat with the paediatrician about it.

PogoBob · 31/08/2012 13:09

DD was off the chart for height and weight from 4 weeks old (91st at birth). She's now 2yo and is still off the chart for height but her weight has dropped to the 91st centile.

She didn't crawl til 9 months, no signs of even trying before that aside from rolling over. Walked at 13 months and was soon running around like a mad thing. I wouldn't say your DD is late.

QuenelleOJersey2012 · 31/08/2012 13:12

DS was long, 99th centile at birth. I'm 5'7" and DH is 6'.

DS is 3 now and as tall as many 5 year olds. He crawled at 8 months and walked at 14 months. His favourite thing in the world is running so we're hoping he'll have a career in athletics.

8.5 months is certainly not late for crawling.

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 31/08/2012 13:16

Mine is 6 months, 98th for height and 10th for weight, like tiny caterpillar.

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 31/08/2012 13:17

Oh and am sure is fine not to be scurrying all over the place at that age

Kveta · 31/08/2012 13:21

DS was long - 91st-98th for height, 75th - 91st for weight, until he was 6 months when he stopped growing so fast. He was pulling himself to his feet at 5 months, and cruising the furniture, crawling by 7 months, and walked at 9 months.

DD is huge too, and can already propel herself along short distances on her front with her feet - she is 11 weeks.

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 31/08/2012 13:21

My DS is a freak has a height totally off the scale - would probably be on 200th centile if extrapolated.
He is 19mo and in a Size 8 shoe. He is huge.
He walked at 11mo so defo need for concern I don't think OP

tumbletumble · 31/08/2012 15:07

My DS1 is 98th for height and 75th for weight and was an early walker. They all do things at different ages though - sounds like yours is a chatterer instead.

Rowgtfc72 · 31/08/2012 18:00

Dd who is 5 has always been in the top tenth of the centile chart. She didnt crawl till a year old, walk untill 17 months, dry at night till almost five. She just does things in her own time. She was an early talker though and boy, can she talk! Our problems are now she is the height and weight of a seven year old and on her five yr old checks if you use the kiddy nhs bmi measure she comes out as obese. Shes not but they dont factor age into it. They do say kids are either a talker or a walker......

OstrichSized · 31/08/2012 18:21

Dd2 is very tall and at the top of the charts. Crawling at 7 months so don't think the height equates.

But I've heard of some babies who just go straight to walking so I would try not to worry about it.

wigglesrock · 31/08/2012 22:02

My dd3 is really long (99th percentile), she didn't crawl or bum shuffle - just walked at 11 months - no cruising - just straight to walking. Really surprised me. Dd1 was a huge crawler, didn't walk until 15 months, dd2 walked earlier but dd3 just took off (not as much fun as it sounds Grin) Neither me or husband are tall - he's positively hobbit like!

She's now 18 months and still growing Grin

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 31/08/2012 22:04

Hmmm...could be very nice if DD goes straight to walking! Fwiw, if I hold her hands when she is standing she does very big purposeful strides around, however is still at that rocking on all fours stage for crawling.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 31/08/2012 22:05

Confused hae name changed for charity - I am OP if it doesn;t seem clear

pGrin

LetsKateWin · 31/08/2012 22:08

When DD was last measured, at around 18 months, she was in the second centile for height, 50th for weight and her head was in the 91st centile. She doesn't look as odd as she sounds. Grin

She was a late crawler/walker but she chats as if the world is about to run out of words.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 31/08/2012 22:12

I am starting to think Rowgtfc is right - talker or walker. DD will happily lie on the floor for an hour and repeat over and over the small number of words she knows. DN otoh can scale a room in no time, but is as quiet as a church mouse.

Belmo · 31/08/2012 22:24

My dd is 99th centile for hight and way off the chart (actually off the page Blush) for weight. Wee chubs. She started crawling at about 10 months, not walking yet at 11.5m but not far off :)

booflebean · 31/08/2012 22:31

I don't agree with talker or walker. Well it annoys me a little as people used to use it as a dig when DS started walking at 9 months.

He said his first words at 8 months and is 21 months now and talking in sentences, 200+ word vocab, can count to 10, name shapes and colours etc etc.

Maybe he's an exception and maybe I'm being a bit precious because I had a couple of NCT friends be a bit catty about his very early walking!!!
