I posted on here about 'missing children wristbands' and a number of people have complained to admin........

This was a official 'missing people' wristband.

I am a volunteer for missing people and was simply advertising a service that benefits missing children....

The people who complained should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!

I really hope ur children never go missing and never need to use the 'missing people' helpline !!! But if anyone ever needs us we are there 24 7 .... Many thanks

But you were advertising without paying the admin fee, yes?

nannyof3 · 19/07/2012 17:36

It was not advertising !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
TantrumsAndBalloons · 19/07/2012 17:38

What was it then?

TantrumsAndBalloons · 19/07/2012 17:39

You just said in your op "I was advertising"

Pascha · 19/07/2012 17:39

but your first post says it was advertising.

RaisinDEtre · 19/07/2012 17:50

I am so sorry that I misunderstood advertising to mean advertising when in fact advertising does not mean advertising

TantrumsAndBalloons · 19/07/2012 17:52

No, advertising only means advertising when the op uses it to advertise her product....oh wait, yep that's what actually happened.

RaisinDEtre · 19/07/2012 17:54

It's a bit orwellian double speak innit

HecateHarshPants · 19/07/2012 17:55

Is this a product that people pay money for? Then it is advertising, whether or not you personally are paid.

If, otoh, these wristbands are given out free, then just email them and say so, and they'll probably tell you where to post about them.

I realise you're still advertising something if it's free, but it's a bit different from 'check out this website and buy their product'

Didn't see your thread and don't know the product you're on about, so I don't know which it is.

hairylemon · 19/07/2012 17:58

I do actually think its shit people have complained op. Not as if you were advertising something frivolous is it?

SuePurblybilt · 19/07/2012 18:01

How do wristbands help missing children if they're free? Am I being thick?

BonkeyMollocks · 19/07/2012 18:04

Sounds like advertising to me Hmm

And a wristband would be a waste of time on my ds anyway. He would just pull it off and chew it.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 19/07/2012 18:04

I think the idea is that your child wears a wristband with his/her ID when out and about, in case they wander off and get lost. ID includes your contact details., and can include any important medical information (allergies etc).

But the ones I saw were neither free nor cheap.

SuePurblybilt · 19/07/2012 18:05

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I thought it was one of those fundraising things.

BonkeyMollocks · 19/07/2012 18:05

Maybe someone should invent a microchip for children Wink

nannyof3 · 19/07/2012 18:11

It is a 'free' wristband for children to put on !!!!!!!

Someone told me not to put a child's name on a piece of clothing, because any stranger that wants to take the child can use the name to gain that child's confidence. "Hey, it's Poppy! D'you remember me? I was at school with your Mum, don't you remember I came to your house a few years ago..? Anyway, you mum has phoned and told me to give you a lift home..."

Parents' mobile number, OTOH, is a good idea.

nannyof3 · 19/07/2012 18:21

Its not for their name, its purely for the parents/careers telephone number

NarkedRaspberry · 19/07/2012 18:21

People are to funny as cats are to elegant.

SuePurblybilt · 19/07/2012 18:24

SO

You started a thread saying 'look at this amazing charity and they do free bands, what a good plan' and people complained and the thread was pulled?

Was there nothing in the link or whatever you posted that was for commercial gain?

IawnCont · 19/07/2012 18:24

What do you mean, careers telephone numbers?

IawnCont · 19/07/2012 18:24

Ah, sorry, CARERS. Then yes, it's a good idea.

BonkeyMollocks · 19/07/2012 18:27

Maybe you should link the link again so we can see what was wrong.

SaraBellumHertz · 19/07/2012 18:28

Why is the word free in inverted commas? Are the bands actually free. If so I'm inclined to agree those that reported were a little out of order...
