Exam in 10 days. Is that enough time to cram? I know literally nothing for 2/3rds of the paper Confused

very impressed that we have a new thread and its only june 3rd!

tumbleweedblowing · 03/06/2012 21:52

Exam in 8 days, and feeling like the girl in the educating Essex trailer..

Pi, where did that come from

Hoping that a week is really a long time when it comes to revision, because I am clueless. Blush

Had been thinking about work being Ju-in ...

Bloody hell, the enormity of my lack of dedication thus far is dawning on me...I'm a rabbit in the headlights.

I am actually now thinking I might not be able to sit this exam...

OP posts:
tumbleweedblowing · 05/06/2012 14:37

I said exactly that to my tutor. He told me to get a grip.

I remember sitting up late at night when I was a teenager studying. I have neither the will, not the ability to do that now. Bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger.

I think I'm at least a week short.

gingergran · 05/06/2012 15:26

try to learn about 10 points for each chapter you study and then practice making them relevant to the past questions asked. you don't have much time in the exam to answer in great detail so by knowing key points on each topic you should be able to well enough to pass well without having to remember great chunks of works - takes the pressure off as well - you are better off to answer the right number of questions fairly well than answer too few questions brilliantly - best of luck.

wildstrawberryplace · 07/06/2012 10:13

that's good advice gingergran.

How's it going tumbleweed?

OP posts:
craftynclothy · 07/06/2012 10:46

I have an exam on Tuesday. Thought everything was going pretty well...opened a couple of past papers and couldn't answer question 1 Shock. Would like to say I'm in panic mode but it's more like head in sand mode Grin

tumbleweedblowing · 07/06/2012 12:37

I'm sure it will be fine. It's just an exam after all. Thousands of teenagers doing them this month. I'm sure an old crumbly like me can do one too.

When I'm reading through my notes, or reading textbooks, it all makes perfect sense. Then when I look at an old question, I don't even know where to start. If I look at a theorists name, and the area, I can talk for ages about it, but making the links just seems to be missing. Have to finish studying for the day now, because I'm helping at school this afternoon, and have end of term stuff tonight.

Just need to keep calm, and imagine it's a tutorial, or something.

wildstrawberryplace · 07/06/2012 13:24

Well I'm a firm believer in adrenalin releasing information and connections from deep within the brain when under pressure Grin

tumbleweedblowing · 07/06/2012 17:02

Fingers crossed you're right. Grin

craftynclothy · 08/06/2012 15:21

Think I have the same thing as you tumbleweed - I can explain everything fine but I look at a question and it just doesn't relate in quite the same way. Have managed to do a little revision of the stuff that crops up in the early questions so feeling a bit better about it atm. In my course the early question seem to be on the background gumf rather than the practical stuff the course is really about Confused

fuzzpig · 09/06/2012 13:19

Best of luck to all the exammers!

I just had a tutorial and found out my tutor actually did give me an extension on tma3 but forgot to email me about it - said extension was until June 5th :( she's going to ask the regional people to extend it further but tma4 is due on 19th so I'm going to do that first. Yikes.

gingergran · 10/06/2012 16:57

Sorry to say TMA04 is a bit of a stinker fuzz - just read and reread the instructions and then read them again is all I would say. Can you not just leave out TMA03? I know there are no substitutions but as you have been getting really good marks so far, maybe it would take the pressure off a bit - or just submit an essay plan which would get you some marks without the burden of writing the stupid thing. If you are going to do TMA03 then option A is the better one as the reading is all contained within chapter 2.

best of luck to all the exammers too

fuzzpig · 10/06/2012 17:37

I will definitely do the 3rd tma as I find essays fairly easy (I just struggle with getting started usually) and I'll stick to option A thank you for that :o

I'm more in the frame of mind for no4 as that is what we had the tutorial on yesterday. I am so far behind that I didn't even know what Coding actually was and hadn't so much as glanced at the tma - and was far too embarrassed to admit it - but by the end of the 2hr session I felt fairly confident in knowing what we have to do. I don't have any extra resources but PM me if there's anything you are confused about and I'll see if there's anything I can think of (though I haven't actually started listening to the interviews or anything)

gingergran · 11/06/2012 07:40

Thanks - am going to try and make a concerted effort today to make a real start rather than just playing at this. going away on 21 june so need to get this out the way before i go without my safety net of an extension

tumbleweedblowing · 12/06/2012 10:03

Phew, so exams are OK really. Didn't write as coherently as I'd have liked, but that's not the end of the world. It's over, and I didn't throw up!

I do have a rather splendid blister on my pen finger though! Grin

I'm off till the end of August now, when my resi project will need to be done.

Have a good summer, and thanks for the support. Grin

fuzzpig · 12/06/2012 10:28

Ah yes the old pen blister! I've had many of them!

gingergran · 12/06/2012 10:53

glad to hear it was OK tumbleweed - wish i had nothing till end of August - will gladly let you have some of mine if you miss study too much!!

craftynclothy · 12/06/2012 20:24

Glad it went ok tumbleweedblowing

My exam went ok too, apart from a moment of overthinking madness, where I ended up writing 2 sides of A4 for a 2 mark question ShockBlush. I even left early after filling two answer books.

madwomanintheattic · 13/06/2012 17:43

No exams here, but am stressing to get everything finished

tumbleweedblowing · 13/06/2012 23:30

I heard about someone in our exam (different venue) who asked for an additional workbook, and got one that already had writing inside!!!

fuzzpig · 15/06/2012 18:04

Eek that doesn't inspire confidence! Shock

Mind you my colleague just got an email from the local college (where we have both done an apprenticeship, but with slightly different exam dates etc) which had a long conversation preceding it (you know where you just press fwd and the old messages stay on the bottom) between two tutors, talking about which students had passed and failed etc Angry

We have our final exit review on Monday and will be having strong words about the state of their administration!

In other news I have tma4 due on 19th, tma3 due 26th and haven't started either! And in between I have DD's birthday and party, and my friend's wedding. Oops. But right now I'm just looking forward to my first Storytime session at work tomorrow :o

fuzzpig · 16/06/2012 20:35

Dammit I am a useless fecking idiot.

Thought I could play the interviews I have to watch as I installed the media kit... turns out you have to still insert the DVD even to read the transcripts... can I find it?!

course not :( Angry

as if everything else wasn't shit enough already (sorry will end rant there)

fuzzpig · 16/06/2012 20:56

thankfully they have the transcripts on the studenthome site, had to use a bizarre bit of software which I needed last time I forgot something like this to open them though!

probably just as well I am using transcripts instead of interview clips as my auditory processing is so crap I wouldn't understand it anyway.
