when we patently do coffee with mates and let the kids run riot all the time

compo · 21/02/2006 14:20

because that's what there kids do at nursery and they think nursery is a home from home?!! hopelessly deluded imo

(she says with a semi-painted papier mache flamin' dinosaur staring at her )

PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT CRAFTS.

Sorry for the shouting, but if everyone keeps talking about crafts, I will have to start thinking about the upcoming Easter Bonnet nightmare, and I don't want to, and you can't make it.

Wait ... how do you give paper mache as a present? A finished paper mache object? Or a kit to do paper mache? Who needs a kit to do paper mache?

Look.

Last year, school said they had to make Easter bonnets.

Ok. DS1 was 3. What kind of hat can he make? Really. So I made a very simple hat out of cardboard, and then got him to put stickers on it. That seemed a fair way to get him involved.

When Easter happened, every other flaming kid had a bloody huge complicated bloody easter hat, that they clearly had had nothing to do with before that day.

I'm talking big bloody hats that look like miniature parade floats. Beautiful, detailed fancy things that no kid ever made. Never mind any 3-year-old.

Mumsnet

C Beebies
woud be a more accurate reflection of my day

NotQuiteCockney · 21/02/2006 14:25

I felt guilty because I didn't let DS1 make the hat, just decorate it.

So what do I do this year?

I think I should just knit something and sod the whole pretending my kid did it. But that's rubbish, isn't it.

don't get drawn in NQC

your ds is still too young to notice that the other hats are masterpieces so don't worry yet

stick with the cardboards and stickers (or go to charity shop and buy an old hat and stuff some dead grass on it)

I could buy a flat cap and stick some chicks to it.

Oh, god, we stuck chicks on the big hat, too.

I do think the teachers etc approved, as it was clearly a hat involving DS1. It was a big donut shape, with the crown made out of strips of cardboard. Looked ok, really, but everyone else had fancy green grass with a big chicken etc etc.

oliveoil · 21/02/2006 14:26

Ooooh, I was about to start a thread asking for craft tips.

Will I get shouted at?

I read that as "send him in a cat flap" Cod. I thought you were seriously losing it, then realised it's me that is.

nailpolish · 21/02/2006 14:27

when i was at school mum always went to the charity shop and bought a fancy hat and stuck a few things on it - yellow chicks, daffs etc

just do that instead of from scratch
