New to the site and shocked

Im new to this site. I have joined others and noticed there seems to be a hate campaign against certain things such as Greggs, McDonalds, Fruit Shoots, piercing babys ears and shopping at Iceland or using frozen foods. I just wondered what was the problem with any of these?

Also why the labeling of people as 'chavs' is common? Some things on these support sites are quite shocking how people like to belittle others and try compete with parenting techniques.

Im 21 single mum with a 2 year old son and don't feel I could get much support from these sites even though thats what they are here for.

Any one else feel the same?

I am sometimes nervous about posting on MN... yes I know that no one is going to track me down and post pooh through my letterbox, but some of the threads get just downright nasty. There is a (very) current one, where I didn't agree with the OP, but she was just asking a question and she was shot down in flames immediately with some very vindictive and patronising posts. I would have hated that to happen to me. Luckily she doesn't seem bothered at all!
So I just don't ask some questions I would really like to.
I am a bit pathetic though and many MN'ers do seem to be the alpha female type!

I meant alpha female in a good way :)

I sometimes read my posts back and think Shock I sound a bit aggressive, or blunt, or just plain nosey...Blush I'm often posting on the run, just sit down for a minute while I'm supposed to be doing something else and type something intended to be practical, helpful, sort of bracingly supportive. I think sometimes it is really hard to get the right 'tone' of post.

welcome. You'll find that most "chav"-bashing posts (or even posts using the word chav in a derogatory way) are followed by 10 others which criticize it. But you're right about Fruitshoots, greggs and McDs.

I have to say I'd never heard about greggs until I went on MN and then one afternoon I was stuck in town at teatime and the idea of buying the kids sausage rolls and fruitshoots just popped into my mind (and very much appreciated they were too).

I like your new name by the way :o
