Do all 22wk old babies really sleep all night?

My DS (DC1) is 22 weeks old today and sleeps from about 8pm till 10am, but wakes twice (sometimes thrice) for a quick feed and back to sleep - about 15 minutes at a time, he is EBF. I was fine with this but every family member and health visitor tells me all babies sleep all night at this stage. I'm starting to panic I've messed up and I've ruined his sleeping forever!

Also concerned cause I rock him to sleep sometimes.

Mine didn't till about age 3 so no! Sounds like you are doing great to me.

marge2 · 04/01/2012 13:08

No they don't. What your DS does sounds bloody good to me. My EBF two never slept through ALL night without feeds till at least 1 year, when I made them go cold turkey. Perhpas FFed babies sleep longer. But stick to your guns and stick to the BF if you are happy with the situation. Nobody else is having to get up are they?

You sounds like a lovely Mum. Tell them to bugger off.!

5inthebed · 04/01/2012 13:10

My first 2 did, then came DS3 who never slept through until 15 months.

Sounds like you're doing a grand job. If it isn't causing you any stress then you'e nothing to worry about.

16 months and counting, never slept through yet...

lilbitneurotic · 04/01/2012 13:14

Thank you! I start off arguing my case then end up all fretful! He's really good natured and seems happy enough so I'm trying not to stress!

dd1 did.
dd2 is 14 mo, and is up on average twice between 7pm and 6.30am.Luckily the first waking is normally before 11pm. Oh, and she's still rocked to sleep as well.

MrsJohnDeere · 04/01/2012 13:15

Ds2 did but then it all went wrong at about 9 months, and only now, at nearly 4yo, does he finally sleep through.

PavlovtheCat · 04/01/2012 13:15

i wish! Grin

msbuggywinkle · 04/01/2012 13:19

DD1 didn't, DD2 did, DD3 isn't there yet but is a pretty great sleeper at 3 weeks old. I did nothing differently between them!

MustControlFistOfDeath · 04/01/2012 13:22

I don't know why HVs feel the need to trot this out - surely they know that all babies are different. Puts unneccessary pressure on the mums.
My HVs were aghast that my DS didn't sleep through at 9mo, and basically told me that I shouldn't be bfing through the night Shock Hmm. I ignored them Grin

13.5mo and he is starting to improve, he sleeps for 5 hour stretches now sometimes

SkiBumMum · 04/01/2012 13:23

God I wish mine slept anywhere near that much!

Catsu · 04/01/2012 13:34

That sounds great! My dd is the same age and she sleeps 11pm to 7am straight without waking for a feed, but she's wide awake all evening!

Iggly · 04/01/2012 13:37

If DS did that at 22 weeks I'd have been ecstatic!!

TheSkiingGardener · 04/01/2012 13:38

No they blooming well don't. Hmph. You sound like you have quite a good sleeper relatively speaking. Tell them all to bog off.

marge2 · 04/01/2012 13:48

I remember the time I emailed my brother and cousin all boasty and happy cos my 18 month od had slept right through the night. ( as you do)
My sleep deprived bro had a 4 ish year old at the time who they co slept with. He emailed back saying congrats and his DS had slept a "whole 20 mins in a row" last night too!

Pozzled · 04/01/2012 13:55

DD1 certainly didn't, and DD2 still wakes once or twice at 7 months. Either ignore the 'helpful' advice or lie.

fluffyanimal · 04/01/2012 13:57

Ahahahahahahahahahahahah! hahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaha!

No.

TheChristmasTreeSurgeonsMate · 04/01/2012 13:59

No they don't. And another thing that I'm only just starting to appreciate is that sleeping is not, as these people seem to imply, something that you sort out at some stage in the first year and is then dealt with.

KnitterNotTwitter · 04/01/2012 14:02

what fluffyanimal said

albertswearingen · 04/01/2012 14:02

Fluffy animal beat me to it.

At 22 weeks I would've given my eye teeth for a sleep pattern like that with ds. Sounds pretty good to me- you're doing great.

LovesBloominChristmas · 04/01/2012 14:04

Dd slept through at 8 weeks but I knew that was freaky, oh and at 2.5 she stopped!

Iggly · 04/01/2012 14:18
Jokat · 04/01/2012 14:24

My dd2 is the same ageand wakes up at least twice, sometimes a lot more, between 9pm and 7am. She is bottlefed. My mil keeps telling me she (dd2, that is :)) should be sleeping through. so tired of hearing it, all I ever reply is "o well..."

ViolaCrayola · 04/01/2012 14:30

No! DS was 15 months... I actually think it's probably quite unusual for ebf babies to sleep through at that point.
