Hello!! I am a frazzled mum of two BEAUTIFUL little girls: Katherine, 21 months and Sophia, 6 months - So I have a just under fifteen months age gap between my little lovelies. (Was supposed to be sixteen months, but Sophia decided to make an early appearance!!) I love them to bits and pieces, but there are days when I wonder why my husband and I decided to get pregnant when my 1st DD was only SEVEN MONTHS old. Sophia is coming up for that age now and I think someone must have slipped mind-altering subtances into my drink or something!! Would LOVE to hear from other yummy mummies who have small age gaps for advice and general moaning / chat!! Need some support - Need to know I am not alone!!

No advice I'm afraid but my SIL is due to give birth to a girl 2 days before her son's 1st birthday. It wasn't planned and she's not with the father anymore.

PreggieMum · 25/11/2005 13:46

I have 2 girls. My eldest is now nearly 21 months and my youngest is 9 months. They are hard work, but they do now play together and DD1 gives DD2 a big kiss if she is upset. I am now pregnant with no.3.

I think there was a thread somewhere a while back called something like 2 under 2's. Will try and find it now.

CaptainDippy · 25/11/2005 13:49

Wow - Good to know that there are some other mad mothers around!! Good for you PreggieMum!! Were they all planned? (Is that a very rude question?????) Would love to read the "2 under 2" thread if you can find it!! Would just be good to have some contact with mums in a similar situation!! Wanna keep in touch!!?

I'm going to have just under 18 months gap between my two girls when DD2 is born in January. I'm starting to think "what have I done?"

I'm finding having a toddler and being heavily pregnant bad enough.

Gobbledigook · 25/11/2005 13:53

Got 3 boys with 19 month and 20 month gaps. What was I thinking?

bambi06 · 25/11/2005 13:55

mine have 18 mth age gap and now they are 6 and 4 1/2 abd they get on brilliantly so hang in there and actually they have always got on pretty well but of course do have their days!!!

CarlyP · 25/11/2005 13:55

i have an 11 mth age gap between my 2 boys. they are nrly 1 and nrly 2. it gets easier as they get older!

PreggieMum · 25/11/2005 13:57

Not rude at all. Yes, all were planned. It took over a year to conceive DD1, so wasn't expecting to be pregnant with DD2 quite so quickly. There is a huge age gap between my sister and I, and didn't want the same to happen with my children. Also, my family have a bit of a history of fertility problems after the age of 30, so this also played a part in deciding to have them all so close together.

I'm not very good at doing links, but this is the thread here

BROWNY · 25/11/2005 13:58

Hiya, I've 19 months gap between my two dd's, then 22 months between dd2 and ds3. We waited until ds1 started school before we tried for ds2 - now 18 months old - they all play together - thank god!!

PreggieMum · 25/11/2005 14:02

I think it definately gets easier as they get older. The big turning point for us was when DD2 started to sit up unaided. DD1 then started to see her not just as a baby, but as someone who she could play and share toys with.

CarlyP · 25/11/2005 14:26

totally agree preggiemum. ds2 is now crawling and taknig a few steps and ds2 views him as 'human' now!!!! LOL we are also ttc for no.3. must be mad!

allyco · 25/11/2005 15:22

I've 20 YEARS between my first and the unborn one, and the youngest will be 19 months when unborn one arrives. I am absolutely petrified........

Mistletoo · 25/11/2005 15:31

under 2 years between my 3 - I loved it that I had them closer together - great for them great to get them off my hands quicker

Milliways · 25/11/2005 15:57

My SIL has 54 weeks between her 2, and a lady at church had 2 sets of twins under 2!!!!!!

Blandmum · 25/11/2005 16:02

My MIL had 4 under 7, with 18 months between 1 and 2 and 17 months between 3 and 4

Gobbledigook · 25/11/2005 16:06

Mistletoo - it's only now that I fully appreciate that approach!

podkin · 25/11/2005 16:10

I have 12 months and 15 days between ds and dd. dd is now 9 weeks. Wasn't really planned, my hormones must have gone into overdrive. We are managing pretty well altho' nappy changing can get a bit repetitive. Ds doesn't really pay attention to dd yet apart from vague cooing noises and occasionally trying to bash her on the head with a toy. I didn't want to be much older than I am to have kids as I am knackered as it is - god know what I would have been like if I'd left it ! I think it will work out well and would recommend it to anyone thinking of more than 1...

allyco · 25/11/2005 19:34

OMG you are all so brave... how do you do it? You make it sound so easy....

CaptainDippy · 25/11/2005 19:37

WOW!! Just logged on and saw all the messages that have been posted since I started this thread- That completely ROCKS!! Sooooooo glad that there are other mad mummies out there. It is funny though - there's some with smaller age gaps than mine and some with bigger, but no one with a gap roughly the same!! (15 months!!) I am sooooo looking forward to DD2 sitting up - I think that DD1 will be so pleased that she looks "vaugely human" and will be able to play a bit better. Though they get on very well at the moment - although I went to the loo today and came back and DD1 had drawn all over DD2 in my fave lipsitck - Boy, was I cross!! Grrrrrrr!! Keep these messages coming they are very, very encouraging - Thank you!!

Women at school has five, one in each year of primary school - 4,5, & 6 and also 2 younger ones (youngest 8 monthsish). So that is 5 under the age of 6/7. Not sure of the gaps, but as you can deduce not much.

Now that rocks - and she always looks in control and is organising the school fete.

YOKEFLEET · 25/11/2005 20:21

I have a 7 week old DS and we are trying to decide when to try for number 2 as we don't want too much of a gap between them, there is 15months between me and my sis and I think that, that would be nice but it seems that everyone else on the Oct thread think I am crackers and advise 3 years between.

Tamba · 25/11/2005 20:23

There are 19 months between my boys and although they were hard work when they were both younger they play together alot now and keep each other occupied. I dont think i would do it again so close though.
