Babies' nicknames. What and and why?

The baby arrives. A name has been chosen and yet, for the rest of his/her childhood years, they will be called something completely different. These names 'just happen.'
DS1 is Bubble
DS2 is Bodo (after a footballer, apparently) or Hubbachup Bear (where did that come from?)
DS3 is Footle or Charlie Brown.

Which/what alternative names have you given your littlies? And why?

My DS (11 months-Called William) gets called Bograt, after his obsession with all thing foul (the loo, bin etc) and DP called him Billy Billiard, after an unfortunate bout of nappy rash left him with little red balls (My DP is such a gent!)

intergalacticwalrus · 14/11/2005 23:21

But we are quite a nice family really, and DS get's called this in an affectionate manner. I usually call him Willybobs tbh

bobblehead · 15/11/2005 03:10

My dd gets called bobblehead (where my name came from- couldn't think of anything else at the time!) cos she has quite a large head, bobbly, pieface or miss piddlepants

DD2 snufflebug or snugglepuff (oh dear)
occasionally snorter if shes been doing her attractive pig impression!

Miaou · 26/11/2005 22:46

dd2 is called Smiley - because she is! And it is quite similar to her real name too.

willandsamsmum · 26/11/2005 22:59

DS1's nickname is Shrimpy as he was a shrimpy little premmie
DS2s nickname at the moment is Gnasher because we have a little biting problem but it used to be Tortoiseboy because he looked just like a tortoise when was born.

popsycalindisguise · 26/11/2005 23:03

ds2 is bo bo or bobes (as in rhymes with lobes)....

hmmm

starandsnowshaker · 26/11/2005 23:09

starandsnowshaker · 26/11/2005 23:13

shes also known as squidge lol

expatinscotland · 26/11/2005 23:14

DD is Meezer. She is a wee meezer. She started out, however, as a 'cheezer' b/c she was a smiley baby and DH would prompt her by telling her, 'Cheezer. Cheezer.'

colditz · 26/11/2005 23:59

Bibbyboo (when we are pleased to see each other), or Bibbley-Wibbley (when he is mardy - bibbling, see?) or Bibby (to get his attention)

I do not know why!

harpsichordcarrier · 27/11/2005 00:06

[colditz are you from Nott'm?]

Snips · 27/11/2005 00:34

Ds2 is boo (or variation of that). Reason is when I was pregnant ds1 had a habit of saying booby or boobies all the time to everyone we met . I suggested he call the baby "boo" as a distraction, and it worked and "boo" has stuck, though sometimes its bubsi now.

ghosty · 27/11/2005 00:43

DS was known as Mr Moon or The Bear (and I still call him both of those)
DD is often referred to as "That Baby" (As is, "What on earth has that baby done now?" When we hear a crash and the sound of running water coming from the bathroom)
And we call her Smelly too or when she is stroppy for some reason I call her Mrs Miggins.

Cabe · 27/11/2005 01:08

dd was Nandy-nooping when she was a baby... then the Nandynoo and now it's just the Noop. I call her this more often than Nandy

colditz · 27/11/2005 11:08

HCC, from 18 miles away from Nott'm, how did you know?

triceratops · 27/11/2005 11:49

dd is Flash , named by her brother. He is mostly known as chick or baa.

foxinsocks · 27/11/2005 11:58

dd is bean because that's what she looked like when we had to have an early scan to rule out an ectopic pregnancy

ds is jehosephat (as we gave him a name that is the shortened version of another bible name and all dh's rather grand family were constantly asking 'so is his name short for x')

vole trouser (think this is from a Monty Python sketch)
boy (because all my foreign family would always look at him and state how he looks so much like what they envisage a typical English boy should look like!)
