Erm ... Are you a sitter or a stander?

DH and I got on to the topic of toilet training last night (rock and roll Saturday nights in our house ...) I became quite taken aback to discover that - tmi alert - DH stands up to wipe after a number 2! I am a sitter downer, and have taught DS that sitting down is the thing to do but DH thinks that is entirely wrong and now I'm all in a quandry. What's the norm people - stay sitting or stand up???

Years ago I had a boyfriend that did it sat down and the first time the subject came up (god knows how that came up!) I was amazed, I didn't know people did it stood up.

I am a firm stander upper!!!

My dh does both, I have just discovered.

I think everyone in this house wipe whilst sitting.
How can you be properly clean if you have wiped standing up?

clitorisorclitoraint That was my point exactly!!!! I kind of understand men in a way stnading up seeing as they stand up to pee, but us ladies, all we know is sitting!!! DS and I are firm sitters. But with DD due in a matter of weeks, well I need this clearing up!

But sitting down you must have to be some sort of contortionist to check if you need more wiping, and then get the paper down the toilet without contaminating anything else don't you? I can't picture it!

Having worked in reception I have never supervised any children wiping themselves sitting down either.

How come I have lived for over half a century without knowing that half the population do this?

Well, you have to tilt your bum Wipe then check the tissue, if its clean you know you can be proud of your bum wiping skills!!!
What do stander uppers do? Use a mirror

Ha ha tysonnobdie86 Do you know when you see somebody doing the half bottom lift when they're trying to sneak one out without anybody noticing? Well that's what us sitters do! As for contaminating anything else - when you wipe yourself after a wee, your tissue doesn't go wafting about the bathroom before landing down the pan does it? Same as a number 2 - down it does, done and dusted!

I am amazed though - I honestly thought I was 100% in the right and DH was just being a big weirdo.

so if you're sitting - how do you get your arm to your bum - does it go round the back? do you squat slightly over?

Sit on the sofa and reach round to scratch your bum cheek. Simples.

actually i say stand i mostly squat throughout the whole process as i dont like cold toilet seats.

Well I tilt to the left a little, and i wipe my bum with my right arm, i suppose left handed people may do the reverse

I once observed a male flatmate standing to wipe (glass door with a blind on a very sunny day) so I knew that some people did this. Dh though was unaware until I read him this thread. He's a bit shocked.

My theory is that some people have short arms and can't manage to wipe whilst sitting.
