What temp is your DC's room at night and what do they wear?

DS18mo wears a long sleeve vest, pyjamas and a 2.5 tog grobag. He won't keep a blanket on. His room is usually around 19-21C at night.

DH likes to keep the central heating on all night because he worries that DS gets cold. Pre-kids we never had the heating on overnight and were never ill. Nowadays DH has always got a cold and I'm just getting over a sickness bug.

I don't believe it's healthy to have the central heating on all night but I don't want DS, who is not a good sleeper, to wake up cold.

What temp is your DC's bedroom? And what do they wear in bed?

Ds is 4 and the temperature in the bedroom is 16 degrees.

He wears pyjamas, socks and has a hot water bottle to warm the bed before he gets in and a normal duvet.

Just saw that your ds is 18 months. At that age he wore the same as yours plus socks, same tog growbag and the room was still 16 degrees in the winter.

I used to put a blanket over him as well but he always threw it off. Slept through though so he was obviously comfy.

DD1 (4yo) wears vest and PJs and sleeps under thick duvet.

DD2 (10 months) wears long sleeve vest, sleepsuit and 2.5tog sleeping bag.

Both rooms are around 18-19 degrees C. We don't leave the heating on at night.

I couldn't tell you what temp dd's room is as we've never really monitored it. It's better generally for them to wake up slightly cold and ask for more blankets/clothes until you've got the balance right than to keep them too warm. DD wears a vest and pyjamas in bed and has two duvets. I check how she feels when I go to bed and adjust accordingly.

I don't know about central heating as we don't have it but I do know if I stay at people's houses who have the central heating on overnight, I wake up feeling dreadful. Stuffy nose, headachy etc. I don't know why this is.

I was wondering about this. DS is 8 weeks old. He sleeps in vest with a winter woombie on over the top (it's quite fleecy and snug) and then a double layer of blanket. Room temperature is generally between 8-20 degrees

Me too Pure - I really appreciate central heating when I'm awake but if I go to my parents' the first thing I do is go to our room and turn off the heater.

Thanks all. It seems DH might be worrying a little unnecessarily about the temperature. As I said, DS is not a good sleeper so we will do anything to stop him from waking up.

I agree with you, Pure, we always turned the heating off when we went to other's houses before we had DS. It's so dehydrating.

Perhaps we'll turn the heating off tonight and see what happens...

Ds2 is 16 months, room 18 degrees at the mo and he's wearing long-sleeved bodysuit, pyjama top and bottoms, and a 2.5 tog grobag. I find he feels the cold just slightly more than the chart reckons.

about 12 degrees max. 2 sets of PJ's and a normal thinkish duvet. 2 year old son - sleeps through from 6.30 to 7.15 so must be ok.

Both my kids take after DH and are always cold at night. DH has PJs and 2x 13 tog duvets on!

DD (age 5.5) wears PJs, a fleece sleepsuit and sleeps under 2 duvets!

DS (age 14months) has PJs, fleece sleep suit and 8tog duvet.

I am the odd one, I have the window open, PJs and a normal duvet!

Bedroom temps are about 15/16 degs.

At the moment, my dd is 3 weeks and just a little too small for grobags.. So has a sheet doubled over and on or two blankets doubled over and it is 18-20.

I am going to start having the heating on a bit less when she can go in a grobag.. I don't like it being on all night. That said she gets warn easily

If we have the heating on it stays around 18-20 degrees. He has a long sleeved vest and a 2.5 tog grobag. We have started leaving the heating on as when we didn't the temperature in the room could drop as low as 13 degrees. When the weather improves the heating will go off again.

The heating in the bedroom at the moment is about 15 degrees with the heating on low all night. DS (3 months) wears a long sleeve vest, fleecy grow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. If the rooms is 18/19 he wears a normal babygro and if colder (was as low as 10 last week) he wore a babygro and a fleecy gro and a vest.

I have a 10 week old and our room ranges from anything between 14deg and 17deg at night. He wears a babygro and vest plus 2.5tog sleeping bag.

DS is 14 months, wears a long sleeved vest and pyjamas, and screams if anything else (i.e. grobag, blanket) is put near him. He's still in our bed room, and when in his cot and sleeping, the room is generally between 17 and 19 degrees.

He is obviously warmer in between us, but still refuses anything touching his feet, so for now we've given up. He'll be wearing socks in the czech republic over christmas though!

I have a 19 month old and his room is around 15/16 degrees at night. He is sleeping in socks, long sleeved vest, t-shirt, PJs and 2.5 tog duvet.

Our heating is set to come on if the temperature drops below 20deg at night. I love it cosy and warm and the children sleep though comfortably. I can't stand feeling cold in bed. My PIL don't have central heating and I always wake up with a freezing cold nose, feeling as if I've been camping at their house. It's just not comfortable to me! The children don't seem to have more than their fair share of colds....

About 13deg. Heating switched off. Both DC in PJ,s & vests with duvets. DD will sometimes put socks on.

They never complain of being too cold

DS is 13 months. Room temp 14 - 17 deg.
Wears fleecy sleepsuit & 2.5tog grobag with blanket over top.

The house we are living in at the moment is ridiculously cold - room temp in all of our bedrooms ranges between about 8 and 10 deg C even though i have heaters on (no central heating) when I walk into a room that is 10 deg I think it's lovely and warm!! DDs (aged 5 and 3) wear vest, PJs, socks and have 2 duvets inside their duvet covers. DS (19 months) wears vest, PJs, 2.5 tog grobag plus cot duvet. They all sleep brilliantly (it's extracting them from under warm duvets in the morning that is the problem!). Although it would be nice to be a bit warmer, i don't think there is any particular harm in it being cold as long as they have enough covers on. My bedroom is also usually around 8 deg and although i wouldn't choose to be this cold DH and i have found we are sleeping really well under our two duvets.

I find the trick with keeping blankets on babies is to use a large blanket (not a cot blanket) and tuck it right under one side with lots of free blanket the other side. Once they are asleep come back and tuck the loose side really tightly too and it then tends to stay put.

My god you lot are chilly

I like the kid's rooms to be between 19 and 21 deg C. They wear a sleevless thermal vest and PJs. My ds has a thick duvet and my dd has a 2.5 tog grobag, as it can drop to 18 deg at night. I have had the heating on all night a couple of times.

Nelly - I was away with dh family a couple of weeks ago. We were in a big old house when the snow started falling. The heating hadn't been put on for our arrival and it didn't heat up for 24 hours. Our room was 15 deg C at night and I was freezing despite PJs, fleece, socks, duvet and blankets. I was really worried about my dd who had a cold. I think 8 - 10 deg is far too cold although I appreciate you have no central heating. You must be made of stronger stuff than us and we live in Scotland!

Our bedrooms are very cold (approx 8C at the mo) as the house is heated from a stove in living room and mostly the heat doesn't get upstairs. We all sleep fine (with hot water bottles); the DC (teenagers) wear very little - one wears cotton PJs and the other nought .

Probably about 16 at night as no heating. Ds (6) wears PJs and sleeps under a 12 tog duvet, blanket, quilt and throw (from one of the downstairs sofas). Sometimes I struggle to actually find him in his bed in the morning!

Our house is about 16 degrees over night (although I suspect it drops a degree or two from there when it's very cold).

DS (2yo) sleeps in pyjamas and a fleecy sleepsuit - but he refuses to have anything to do with duvets or blankets (and screams blue murder about the sleepsuit too), but at least it stops him waking with cold at 3am.

DD (6yo) wear pyjamas and has a 9.5tog duvet. She has a blanket she can use if she feels like it.
