Do you go in and kiss your children goodnight when you go to bed?

I always go into 3yo DD's bedroom before I go to bed to check on her and to kiss her goodnight.

I can't imagine if they will stop, or when.

I know even as teenagers my parents would come and say goodnight (if we were awake) when they went to bed. And my mum says that even if we were asleep she'd come and kiss our foreheads - right until we left home.

Nope cos I don't want to wake her up, she's 15months.

hovely · 02/09/2005 15:09

yes, every night, often more than once if I have been reading in bed then get up again. Can't reach DS for a kiss (in cot) but frequently found DD standing on the floor with her head on the bed, fast asleep, when she was first in a bed and smaller than she is now.

No - I give them a kiss when I put them to bed. Then shut the door - don't see them until the morning

We always do. It's a wonderful, quiet, peaceful moment for us. When each of them was still very new, I found myself giving thanks and saying a little prayer for their futures when giving them their last Goodnight before I went to bed.

Kiss her when she goes to bed then again before I turn in usually after Putting her back in bed properly as she tends to hang off the edge of the bed.

Tortington · 02/09/2005 19:55

htey kiss me before they go to bed and give dad a hug. my eldest is 15 and still does it

MistressMary · 02/09/2005 20:12

Nope, I would wake him.
I do the goodnight when I settle him down initially.

PeachyClair · 02/09/2005 21:08

I do all that kissy stuff when I settle them, when i go up I just check they're OK or they'll wake.

PeachyClair · 02/09/2005 21:09

jellyhead- I did that too camping (travel cot)- Dh had given me a friendly push tho! Kids were in hysterics!!!! Should point out I had only had half a bottle of wine, I'm cheap to get drunk, me

Redtartanlass · 02/09/2005 22:04

Yes - check on ds2 every night before i go to bed. Stand and watch until I see him breathing, can't kiss him yet, as he is still in cot and bump gets in the way!!! If ds1 is home from uni (he's 20) I check on him too!!! When my mum was alive (bless her) she would always check I was ok before she went to bed, when I visited her. I used to feel so loved and watched over!!!

troutpout · 02/09/2005 23:37

No!...the little blighters would wake up and want to play!
Should do though... it's very lovely...and my mum did with us
Naah! who am i kidding...it ain't gonna happen.
Perhaps when they stop getting me up at the crack of dawn

Ulysees · 02/09/2005 23:41

yes and pray for them

gingerbear · 02/09/2005 23:44

Always.
And check that she hasn't wet the bed (we are going commando at bedtimes now)

Linnet · 03/09/2005 00:04

I go in to see Dd1, who's 8, every night before I go to bed. I switch of her tape player at the plug, check she's tucked in ok and not hanging out of the bed and then give her a kiss and whisper I love you.
I've always done this since she was a tiny baby. Dh thinks I'm mad and will wake her up but it's never happened yet.

Dd2 is 15 months and still in her cot in our bedroom. I tiptoe in and get ready for bed and check that she's covered up. I whisper I love you but I don't kiss her. Dd2 is the one who's more likely to wake up if given a kiss. Plus I'm quite small and it's hard to reach over the sides of the cot to kiss her.

lanismum · 03/09/2005 00:05

yes, and to make sure shes warm enough

myturn · 03/09/2005 00:07

No. They are all sound asleep by the time I go to bed. And if I try to kiss them they will wake - so NO!!

myturn · 03/09/2005 00:07

But mine are all a bit older so I am excused.

trinityrocks · 04/09/2005 13:41

DD1 (5) I go in straighten her cover, tuck her in and stroke her forehead (she's in a cabin bed so a bit hard to reach for a kiss without possibly waking)
DD2 (5 months) go in , straihgten cover, move her away from being scrunched in the corner of the cot lol, tuck her in and sneak a kiss.
Can't imagine not doing it, I do it automatically

WideWebWitch · 04/09/2005 14:30

Gosh, am suprised at all those who do, it might wake mine up so no, I don't.

shhhh · 07/09/2005 15:19

Yes I do !!! DD is 16 weeks and I have always kissed her before we got to bed ourselves. She is in our room atm so it's easier. I check she is ok,warm & that she is not sleeping to awkward iykwim.
I awlays tell her that I love her soooo much as well.

BTW, a few years back I moved back home to my parents. My mum told me recently that even up until me moving out again she still checked on me & kissed me every night! Even when up during the night she did the same. BTW I was 22!

madmarchhare · 07/09/2005 15:21

No, OMG he might wake up.

handlemecarefully · 07/09/2005 15:23

No, I don't. Not worried about waking them up. Just don't feel the need to.

They get plenty of hugs and kisses in general.
