Right ds is four now and still loves to put his hand on my chest for comfort. Any ideas when he will stop doing that?

I do encourage/ask/tell him to stop but with varying degrees of success - depending on tiredness/level of upset he's feeling.

Has anybody experienced similar?

Yes it can be embarrassing, my aunt was horrified when she saw him doing it!

My four year old has recently become very tactile and cuddly and often does the same.

At bedtime, he also likes to lift my top up and rest his head on my stomach.

I don't really feel its inappropriate but do feel at some point it might be!

RedFraggle · 04/09/2010 23:31

Must be a DS thing... My DS loves to slip a hand in my cleavage when having a tired cuddle (he's 3) but DD never did this.

He only tends to do it at home, but if there are other people (non-family) there, I just gently pull his hand out + stroke it.

Think it will gradually fade out once he is at school.

grapeandlemon · 04/09/2010 23:35

aw bless that is so sweet

TheCrackFox · 04/09/2010 23:36

DS2 used to do that. He is now 5 and rubs my tummy instead - we had to compromise.

TBh I know loads of boys but never girls who have done it.

UnePrune · 04/09/2010 23:38

DS is 6 now and just the right height to grab my tits. He likes it especially when I am standing by his bunk bed and he can give me a good grope. We have talked about it but tbh I can see the attraction. I suspect he'll grow out of it Confused

jetgirl · 04/09/2010 23:44

My DS (2.9)does this too. Usually when he's woken in the night for comfort and he then falls asleep instantly, but sometimes in public. I picked him up from nursery once and he stuck his hand in my bra loudly telling keyworker 'that's my mummy's booby' Grin Blush.

TheCrackFox · 04/09/2010 23:47

It is just boys isn't it? Weird.

kitkatxxx · 04/09/2010 23:48

I got a daughter who does that, it is for comfort. My mum has told me that I use to do the same so I don't really think its a gender thing. Kids just fond different things that they find comforting and for ours is the breasts.Smile

I know a woman whose DD does it. DS does too, though more when he wants feeding, which led to a discussion at toddler group once that it was breastfeeding past about 6 months which "caused" it - have you all found the same correlation? Were your DC's breastfed?

emkana · 04/09/2010 23:52

Yes until he was 2.6.

But so were the dd's and they never did it!

Mine wasn't - he still loves a bit of boob. I'm not well-endowed, either.

TheCrackFox · 04/09/2010 23:53

Yup, bf until 23 months. Like others have said my DD did not have the same comfort from them, though she was bf too. I think because she is the older child she didn't get near them once DS was born! And here comes DS now!

sorry to ruin your theory, my 4yo DD still does it, usually when tired. and if anyone's doing any mn-style 'research' yes she was bf til 18 months old :).

serenity · 05/09/2010 01:37

DD has just about stopped doing it (she used to do it to my sister too!) She will be 7 in November. She is, however, still completely fascinated by them and likes to lay on them ('because they're soft and they feel nice'), just no 'hand sneaking down the bra' moments for a good few months now. She had her last bf just after her 2nd birthday iirc.

DSs also used to do the same thing, but as they are older, they got usurped by the next child. DD never had that push to stop.

jabberwocky · 05/09/2010 01:43

Ds2 is 3 1/2 and still does it - much to the chagrine of my dh!

Oh, and bf until age 2. Ds1 had to have ebm and never did it so I too have always thought that it correlated.
