350 miles. Sold the house, DH has taken vol redundancy of a job he's had for 28 years. DS is moving in the middle of his GCSE's. I've resigned as a director of a local charity. Given away most of our furniture because it won't fit in the house we're going to be renting and we're all sh*t scared. We've gone from an income of over £48 grand a year, to around £10,000. Yep it's a big move, but although it is very scary WE CAN'T WAIT - roll on the 3rd Sept.

Go for it - the SOuth West is a great pace to bring kids up, and what's good for the kids, has to be good for the mum

Sorry - forgot to say...we're currently in Rotherham South Yorkshire.

Do it!!!!

The money was good, but we used to live on a lot less, so we know we can do it again. To be honest, the trade off is worth it.

Hi Esbee
Hows house selling going? Slow here
Anyhow, we are off to Devon and Cornwall on Friday and just wondering if there are any places (ie. areas to live) you could recommend checking out? ARe you going to rent somewhere first or buy straight away? I can't make up my mind. I just want to get settled somewhere so would like to buy straight away but i kind of feel I should try it out first.. hmmmm

janeybops · 30/08/2005 08:53

I grew up in Okehampton

vivat · 30/08/2005 14:39

just spent 5 days in Devon with my mother who lives near Crediton (nr Exeter). We went to Sidmouth on Friday, Teignmouth on Saturday and Exmouth yesterday. All gorgeous beaches about 45 min drive and the kids loved it. I want to move there too !

HI essbee - I haven't been around much in mumsnet, but hope your Devon plans are going well - you seem very focussed on them. Am jealous

Marina · 18/09/2005 12:09

Essbee, there was a big feature in yesterday's Saturday Telegraph about relocating to the West Country. Let me know if you want it.

SoupDragon · 18/09/2005 16:17

Essbee's internet connection is down right now.

Marina · 19/09/2005 09:19

sharklet · 19/09/2005 12:49

Emma xx

Iklboo · 19/09/2005 12:54

I'd move there tomorrow if I could!

RachD · 19/09/2005 12:57

I grew up in Devon.
Great place.
But choose carefully.
Plymouth is so different to Ivybridge. which is so different from Exeter.

What have you decided ?

sharklet · 19/09/2005 13:37

Where are you from Rachel?

I'm from Wembury (South Hams)

RachD · 19/09/2005 13:51

Sharklet,
I lived in Manadon, part of Plymouth.
Then moved to Milton Coombe - little village, on the moors, between Plymouth and Tavistock.
I know Ivybridge pretty well, and Brixham nr Torquay.
Used to regularly go to Exeter & Bristol and down into Cornwall for 'surfers'.

Like I say, little villages are so different to towns.

SoupDragon · 19/09/2005 13:56

Marina, I'll have you know I've been very supportive. "Bog off to Devon then, you silly old moo" were my exact words I think

Jimjams · 19/09/2005 14:58

blimey RachD- I used to live very near to Milton Coombe (Buckland Monachorum).
