smelly sandals!!!

i have a pair of sandals that i love. This is their 5th or 6th summer!!! Each summer i try and replace them, but i still revert back to wearing them as i just love them so much.

Problem is - they smell . They are open toed and strappy, the sole (or the bit my foot sits on) is fabric.

Any tips for cleaning them?

I've tried the washing machine and scrubbing the soles, but doesnt make much difference.

Anyone have any magical tips before i finally abandon my beloved sandals?

scrub them with tomato juice.... it works!
another less drastic option is to put a tumble dryer sheet in them whenever you take them off

How in the heck did anyone find out that rubbing tomatoe juice into sandals gets rid of the smell? emocion

an american friend... they use it to get rid of all smells, my sister in law soaks her (vile) feet in tomato juice once a month and they stay smell free!
Dont ask me why it works, but it does!

Won't it stain the sandals orange? tomato is a b*gger to get out!

Probably a case of "These sandals smell like a skunk has sprayed them! Hey... tomato juice shifts skunk scent, I wonder..."

hmm Well you would have to be american to think it i guess..

You could try covering the insides with bicarbonate of soda and leaving it on overnight, then brushing it off.

and cut the straps first so you don't fish them out of the bin later {evil emoticon}

Rub the sandals with a freshly cut lemon. But this is the crucial bit: rub the other half of the lemon on the soles of your feet before you put the sandals on. You'll have to dust your feet with talcum powder afterwards, else they'll stick to the sandals. Works wonders!

The bicarb doesn't really work longterm (I've tried it a million times) because you keep applying new sweat from your feet.

or could you wash your feet in tomato j and dust them with talc? mmmm
