A plea for Mumsnetters help, for those that use Facebook would you pls consider joing a group set up to work towards removing groups like 'keep down's syndroem sufferers away from society'.

There has been a flurry of vile hate groups on Facebook with titles such as 'Down Syndrome - is there no end to these monster children' and Keep Down syndrome away from society etc. The people posting say vile things such as f*@$ing babies with Down syndrome, killing them, locking them up in cages and so on. Pathetic but also horrid, wrong and damaging.

There has been a group set up that are all working together to constantly report the groups, fake profiles, comments, events, pictures etc. Facebook are being very slow, too slow in reacting to the complaints.

The more people joining this group to work towards asking Facebook to remove hate groups and the posters and the comments etc the better.

Would you consider joining this group and if you can clicking on the link in the box on the left and reporting the latest vile group.

The petition group has so far shut down 7, or 8 of these hate groups. The more members and the more people reporting the more serious Facebook will have to take us and hopefully act faster in removing them.

If just one person sees these sites and believes some of the crap posted up....well... it's damaging to say the least. And people think it's ok to discuss killing, shooting, raping people with DS. These comments have the danger of becoming attitudes that people can take out in to the real world with them.

Anyway, thanks for reading and if you do join and you do report I for one would be so appreciative.

Happy to do it, thomcat. Just one thing - now you've explained it, it is clear, but at first it looks like the bit in capitals is the name of the group you want us to join! Is there any way to change that, to make it more clear?

Groups like those are disgusting. FB are always far too slow in removing them. I despair that are actually people out there dumb enough to think that this okay and actually join the group.

They are the ones that need throwing off a bridge imo.

I couldn't agree MORE about the name thing.
I bought it up with the admins already and they said:

I only named it this as that was the 1st group i was petitioning about, I was so mad at the time and copied and pasted it (stupid i know) after 5000 members you cannot change the name, you cannot even message all members i have even messaged Facebook asking if i can change it, i am awaiting a reply from them

What i am aiming for it to call it Petition to remove all Hate Groups Targeting Down Syndrome People, at the moment i cannot do anything in the group i Accidentley removed myself from admin, i do not even show up as creator of the group anymore, i have messaged Darren asking him to make me admin again

I managed to ban about 10 trolls that was in the Group today so far we have 120 banned but i am doing all i can to change the group name xx

I think the police may already be alerted but am checking because I thought the same thing. Wasn't sure if I should start with my local police station or not????

Will keep this bumped if need be.

yes police have been called but apparently the response was :

"nothing they can do unless i know who it is"

If FB won't change the name, you could try starting a new group & asking all your members to go to that one & leave the first one.

How lovley of you all to join and report the hate group, it's brilliant.

Someone mentioned that Bebo are involved as are the DSA and they are involving police so fingers crossed.

You can't change the name. The reason for this is that all members join, believing they're joining whatever that group stands for. If we could change the name, it would mean admins could amass thousands of members based on one enticing subject, and then suddenly change the title to something completely different - which makes it look like all of the members agree, when they may not. I am sorry, but i am messaging facebook to see if the will change the bold writing for me

They have 6,317 members so not easy to get everyone to join another group.

I have never posted here before. Hello I am from Pinewood, and I think it is horrible that they are allowed to just wander about and spread their evil drool.

Perhaps one day they will ban these people, especially if the Police get involved, and definitely inform the NSOSS, who do everything they can to get rid of these vile creatures.

I am all for freedom of speech, but if they don't even know what they're talking about they should just be made to stop.

I for one would put them down.
