Hellooooooo!

Good moning to you too Oggs
Today I'm getting quotes for replacing the manky downstairs loo. So far I've had a dodgy Polish guy round who said he could do it in a day for £90. The one who came this morning said £750 and three days.
Got another one coming later today so hopefully he'll be somewhere in the middle.

ghostofoggs · 03/03/2010 10:27

Just removing and replacing the actual toilet? That shouldn't take long at all.
£750 Bloody rip-off! I'd go with the Polish fella.

ghostofoggs · 03/03/2010 10:28

Just noticed the 'dodgy'. Why dodgy?

Berrie · 03/03/2010 11:20

Did one lesson then Pre-School rang me and I had to fetch her home.

Still, on the bright side I'm £25 up.
Dh says I still have to go to electro pulse therapy can't get hold of my Mum though (she was going to a friend previously.)

Not just the toilet, he would have to remove old avocado (yuk) toilet and basin, install new toilet and basin, slightly repositioning the toilet to make the best use of the tiny space.
Also raise the level of the floor (there's currently an unnecessary step down) and lay laminate flooring.
The polish guy seemed dodgy because he just had a general shiftiness about him, hardly said a word, and seems to think he can do the lot in a day. I'm no expert but I'd say it would take at least two days including the floor. And his quote was suspiciously cheap. Oh, and the website where he found my job advertised had a review from a previous customer saying he did something wrong and refused to come back and fix it.
Think I just talked myself out of the Polish guy

Berrie · 03/03/2010 11:30

Tee hee!

Berrie, could you take dd with you? Give her a book to look at while you have the treatment?

Ah, Lyra. Dodgy indeed . Still say £750 is way too much though.

Was it you who recommended the Mortal Instruments series? I bought no.1 City of Bones ages ago and have finally got around to reading it. It's good .

Unfortunately in my head Clary is a cross between Lindsay Lohan/Pippi Longstockings and Clary Grundy from the Archers I seem to be having difficulty putting faces to characters at the moment.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through but haven't got the next ones yet (will have to wait for money situation to improve a bit)

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2010 12:27

It is a bit much isn't it. Fingers crossed for builder number 3.
Oggs I can lend you the third one, City of Glass, but I got 1&2 from the library. I really liked all of them so glad you're enjoying them too.

Berrie · 03/03/2010 13:19

I've got the next two, will post but have to get them off sister first.
Got hold of Ma. I wouldn't have been able to take her as she's not allowed in the room.

OP posts:
ghostofoggs · 03/03/2010 17:51

That's kind Berrie Did you enjoy them?
How did your treatment go?

Lyra, how much did other blokey quote?

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2010 20:28

£590. I'm going to try and beat him down to £530.
I think we'll go with him. He has a proper company, registered with trading standards etc.
I was tempted by the Polish guy because of the price but it's probably not worth the risk if things went wrong and I'd never be able to get hold of him again.

ghostofoggs · 04/03/2010 07:37

Morning

Sounds better Lyra. Hope you manage to beat him down, that's an awful lot of money.

How are you feeling Berrie?

Killer PTC meeting last night. 2 hours long. Got home at 9:30. I'm knackered.
Don't want to have to walk but must

Berrie · 04/03/2010 07:55

Well done Oggs! I'm proud of you. What are you listening to as you do it?

Am very of your downstairs loo, Lyra. I got hurried out of the bathroom by ds who got hurried out by dh this morning.

Back is ok at this moment as I am full of mighty horse pills for the morning shenanagins.

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 04/03/2010 09:17

Don't be jealous of my loo Berrie. It's so grim no-one wants to use it hence the revamp.
Some arse left a black bin liner full of manky old stained pillows sometime in the night. What a weird thing to do. Are they expecting us to dispose of them for them?

LyraSilvertongue · 04/03/2010 09:18

DSs have gone to school as the Hungry Caterpillar and Captain Hook. DS2 got all embarrassed and refused to wear his caterpillar head.

LyraSilvertongue · 04/03/2010 09:19

He claims £580 is as low as he can go

Berrie · 04/03/2010 09:34

Gosh, how long does he say it should take?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 04/03/2010 09:57

He didn't but it can't possibly take more than two days, one for ripping out and laying the floor, the other for plumbing in. Two days max I say.
So annoyed I might have to go back to the drawing board.

Berrie · 04/03/2010 10:11

What's on the floor at the moment?

OP posts:
ghostofoggs · 04/03/2010 10:27

Can't you just replace manky loo and give it a fresh coat of paint?

How did you make a caterpillar head?

Berrie, as I walk I'm listening to the audiobook of dum, dum, duuuummmmm... Twilight .
Narrator's squeaky voice is irritating as the the way she uses inflection

LyraSilvertongue · 04/03/2010 10:39

The floor is bare concrete at the moment.
Oggs, the matching basin really needs to go too and the floor needs raising. I'm tempted to go with the dodgy guy after all.
I didn't make a caterpillar head, I bought it from Asda
Did any of your children go in dressed up today? I did intend to make costumes but I left it too long and ran out of time so had to buy instead. The boys do look great though.
Right I'm off to put on my glad rags. I'm off for a posh lunch with DP, who's finally being less of an arse.

Berrie · 04/03/2010 10:46

I reckon get the dodgy guy to do the plumbing and worry about the floor another time.

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 04/03/2010 11:24

No, the floor has to be done before the toilet goes in. Otherwise it would have to be ripped out again when we did the floor. Fed up of this now.

Berrie · 04/03/2010 11:31

Oh of course.

Back not bad at all today! Am pottering round tidying up feeling rather pleased with myself! Was nearly sick with pain in Co-op last night!

OP posts:
ghostofoggs · 04/03/2010 12:20

Lyra, what do you actually mean by grim?

Bear in mind my loo is a wheelie bin/shed/compost affair

What day is it? Why are they dressed up?
