promise I wont be offended if you say no, i need to know where I stand

Have you a seperate room for dd's therapy or something then Fio?

MandM · 14/07/2005 14:44

Dingle, you are not alone re nappies. I have posted on here many times about my fight to get free NHS nappies for dd (she is 4yrs 3mths) but I just meet a brick wall whichever way I turn.

For us it is not the age or the size, I know of children older and younger, heavier and lighter than dd, in our area, who all get regular deliveries of nappies and/or pull ups. But all we are offered is the pads that you mentioned or the foam gusseted knickers that my 84 year old grandma wears!

I even referred this via e-mail to the Disability Alliance - but got a message back saying that due to removal of government funding they could no longer afford to run an advice service. Sounds about right!

Fio - what is that re council tax? Is there some kind of discount scheme available?

Dingle · 14/07/2005 14:47

Sorry for the hijack Fio!!! So where do the others get their freebies from then MandM?

Fio2 · 14/07/2005 14:49

no i havent and it doesnt say i have to on the form. I think there is some sort of snag somewhere. I have the OT people coming to asess the house to make adaptations though so i dont know if this will count.

Dingle no we dont have a number to ring. Evereyone is in 'holiday mode' here permenantly

the council scheme is a discount scheme for 'carers' thats all it says

the thing is about the nappies, the kids come to a point where they are too big for shop bought brands so you HAVE to have delivered Tena sub ones! i had to scream and shout too. When i lived in Staffordshire i just asked when she was 3 and I got them and no-one moaned

Wow Fio, this thread has kept me 'busy' all day today!!!

Just via the normal channels, Dingle. A referral from the HV to the Continence Service and hey presto! their nappies magically arrive. For me - HV said 'no' instantly because dd apparantly can walk, well, call me a bad mother but if she can, I missed it! Anyway, after we'd got passed her, the Continence Service turned round and said no to nappies but yes to the granny pants. Then we got into the whole complaints thing via the PALS service but even they were blocked at every turn by the Continence Service. So here we are, 9 months later and still paying £13-£15 per box of pull-ups whilst all the other SN families around us are having theirs delivered. A conspiracy or what?....!

Dingle · 14/07/2005 16:14

So where are you getting your pull ups now MandM.
We usually pay £8.99 for 38 pull ups. Have you found cheaper anywhere?

I asked about the discount in Council tax a while ago and recently we tried to find out more for me mum and dad. Basically they were told the same as me. To qualify you need to actually set aside a room in your house for treatment/therapy. It can't be a room with a dual purpose! Yeah, wouldn't it be just grand if we all had a room going "spare!"
I think if your house is adapted with ramps etc, you may qualify too.

Fio, we had a SS OT visit a few months ago. She was looking into ways in which she could make my life easier and we broke down Amelia's mobility issues. She suggested a grab rail in our already tiny toilet and a hand rail on our stairs. We chose not to go ahead ATM though. Simply because Amelia is still progressing. If we get to a stage where she is no longer improving, we will re-consider.

Sorry for the waffle!!

I'm with everyone else If I was looking after a child and it needed doing of course I would. I deal with babies nappies and accidents if the older ones have them. I can't see that this is in any way different.
