Funny you should ask this, as I have just had a look on the website to try to find out. They say that they are being dispatched on the 21st. That, or close to that, is good enough for me! I can't be fagged to drag dd into town either, but dh is planning to take both of them in, dressed up! Mad, or what? Plus Amazon were offering 50% discount when I ordered, not sure if this is still the case.

Oakmaiden · 15/06/2003 19:27

When I have ordered videos/DVDs/computer games from Amazon, they have arrived on the release date, not been posted on the release date (even though the official line is that they are posted after release.)

So hopefully this will be the same....

suedonim · 15/06/2003 19:29

We pre-ordered the last HP book and it arrived on the Saturday it was released in the shops. I've never seen my DD get out of bed so fast, lol! Apparently, the postmen are concerned about the load they'll have to carry but this story says books will be delivered on Sat.

bea · 15/06/2003 19:52

oooo! i don't know what to do!!! risk having to wait till monday for the book!!! (in case t he post is delayed...) or get into town and get it!!!??? what shall i do!? what shall i do????

I'm waiting for the book from them. I expect it to get here on the day of release. When we ordered a Gamecube game via them it arrived the day the game was released.

woozle · 15/06/2003 20:55

My DH reliably informs me that the new HP is now being delivered post and package free as well as 50% off.

He's ordered it for me as a summer holiday treat!

katierocket · 15/06/2003 21:24

I didn't get post and packaging free! hummph..he must have got a good deal

Claireandrich · 15/06/2003 21:51

I wondered this too as I pre-rder my copy months ago for 50% off from Amazon. It'd better arrive!!!

SueW · 15/06/2003 22:45

If amazon are offering p&p free, that will make them cheaper than tesco.com who have the cheapest cover price but add on 2.95 or 2.75 p&p.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2003 11:02

If you register with Amazon for the first time, you get a £3 voucher. I'm waiting to see if they notice that I've registered before with a different email address...

Mocha · 16/06/2003 12:02

Free delivery is on orders over £39 only

janh · 16/06/2003 14:56

And that's slow delivery too - if you want first class you have to pay for it even on a 39+ GBP order.

woozle, do you mean free p & p from amazon or somewhere else?

SofiaAmes · 16/06/2003 22:07

Thought it was pretty funny ...there was a news report that said something to the effect that the new book weighs a pound and that a postman wouldn't be able to carry more than a few at a time to deliver...sort of made me think about the extra 45 pounds I carried for 9 mo. while pregnant and why were they doing news stories on poor old me....

SofiaAmes · 16/06/2003 22:08

that's supposed to be weren't doing news stories on me...

justiner · 17/06/2003 14:28

Thought I'd come on and urge all you Amazon shoppers to use the button link from the Mumsnet home page if you're purchasing, as the site gets a sliver of commission for each sale.
Many thanks,
Justine

janh · 17/06/2003 14:33

Too late, Justine!

EmmaTMG · 17/06/2003 16:13

Job done! it's the least I could do for the wonderful Mumsnet, besides it has saved me battling the 1000's on saturday morning trying to buy it in the shops so Yipppeee for all of us!

hmb · 20/06/2003 06:29

And just as an update, I have had notification that mine has been dispatched. With luck I might get it tomorrow morning.

katierocket · 20/06/2003 07:28

me too. and just realised that we won't be hear because we're off to see the in-laws - do you think it'll be too big to post through the letterbox?

Did anyone see the interview with JK Rowling on BBC 2 last night? very interesting. which character is going to die do you think?

katierocket · 20/06/2003 07:29

oh.. I meant here not hear...don't want those grammer people getting me

RockingRosebud · 20/06/2003 08:21

Me thinks Hagrid is going to die.

I'm going to Tesco at midnight tonight to pick up mine! Sad I know.

oxocube · 20/06/2003 08:49

Or Dumbledore?

SueW · 20/06/2003 08:56

RRb, DH and I also agreed on Hagrid last night. His suggestion, I have to admit.

For those who are getting it posted - Tesco just emailed me to say they have despatched mine but added a warning that it won't go through the letterbox and a card may be left instead.

So do I get up at 6.30am on a Saturday morning and wait for the postie? Or stick a note on the door that says 'Please leave parcel behind plant barrel?'

Marina · 20/06/2003 10:16

There was some press coverage a while back about the actor who plays the doomed character in the films blabbing his/her mouth off about how JK was sooo sweet about breaking the news to him/her. Self-indulgent luvvie! So I know who it is and wish I didn't

florenceuk · 20/06/2003 10:57

Nice to see so many HP fans - have you all negotiated time off to read the damn thing? DH was discussing things to do on Saturday as forecast is for a lovely day, and I was thinking, "But I'll miss the delivery..." Sad I know.
