Would you say a size 14 is far or thin?

I lost four and a half stone and went from a size 22 to a size 14 (I'm 5 foot 10) and felt quite happy and slim after that. But recently I've read/heard some comments which suggest that a size 14 is definitely not widely regarded as slim. One was Patrick Kielty mocking Abi Tittmus on Celebrity Love Island, the other was a comment by Liz Hurley about how large women shouldn't wear tight-fitting clothes, and in the Mirror they interviewed a woman who was a size 14 and felt that she was one of the women Liz Hurley was talking about.

What do you all think?

Aloha, you are so not a biggish size 16! You are slim and elegant. If you think different, then can only think maybe it's the industry you work in that's altered your perception, much as La Hurley thinks anyone over a size 6 is a lardy-arse? Sweetie, I'm an 18 top, 14 bottom (blame the F cups for the differential) and I look HUGE compared to you.

14 is regarded in celebrity circles as being fat. there are certain fashion lables which only go up to a size 14 and i am sure that is grudgingly.

i think the thing is - do you think your fat?

you will know that at one time you could onyl go into special outsize stores.
how good does it feel to be able to go into river island and buy something?

i think i am saying "f8ck 'em!"

when i was a 10, i thought 14 was fat
when i was a 16 i thought 14 was slim.
no that i am a 14, i think i am perfect.

14 is slim unless you are unusually petite I think.

yep, size 14 at your height is pretty good emkana. well done for losing the weight!

I am just under your height and size 16 at least. I was 12-14 most of the time till pg, and am still a bit aghast to find i can't fit into my pre-pg clothes at all.

the upside is I finally have bosoms! i'm currently wearing 36D bras - used to be a 34A. The downside is they're nursing bras...

I saw an interview with LH when she was pg in which she gleefully said being pg meant she could allow herself a twix without feeling guilty. Who would want to live like that?

I would say 14 for an average size woman eg 5ft 6in would be slightly fat. I am size 14 and a bit overweight - though bit taller than average.

But of course if your route is via 22 stone it is totally skinny of course. Emkana -n I whould be pretty 9VERY) happy with where you have got to.

Im 5ft 11 and am a 16-18, I think a 14 is a good healthy weight, certainly not fat. I would like to get down to a 14-16.

I would say most people look really good when they're size 14, personally I look best at a 14, I look a bit strange thinner than that. Massive well done on your achievement emkana, I bet you look and feel fab!

I think it depends on the person's built and height, but generally I would say 14 is NOT fat. I personally think Liz Hurley should probably wear looser fitting clothes as she is far too skinny.

emkana, I'm the same height and size as you, and always get told how slim I am - not that I feel slim, mind - I feel like a big fat blob but I felt like that when I was a size 10 so it's not something to go by.

I think if you're 5 ft 3 or so and a size 14, really tight-fitting clothes might not look so great, but at our height it's all in proportion.

For me and my frame - 5ft., 3 in., small-boned, 14 is too large. I've had a lot of surgery on my knees, and any excess weight makes them ache like mad. So I keep myself a 10/12 as much as possible.

For a 5ft, 10 in. person, however, that's slim.

I think size 14 is normal, not fat or thin really, prob a bit curvy but not fat.

Haven't had a chance to read all this thread, but if you are size 14 and 5'10" you are slim
And you should feel SOOO good about having lost the weight you have .

14 is amazing. bear in mind that a 16-18 is the average in this country now. So it's below average. I would be singing from the hill tops if i were you.

At 5 foot 10 it's slim and you have the height to carry off tight clothes, so don't let anyone stop you.

Liz Hurley is emaciated at the moment.

I'm a 14 and am certainly overweight still.... but I don't feel huge or anything! Just a bit plump.... I just lost 9lb and its the first tiem since before I was pregnant with my ds (4yr) that I've managed to fit into 14s, but then again I'm only 5'4"!

14 is very good in the chest.
14 is a bit blubby in the waist.
14 in the bum matters less than how pert & shaped the bum is, whatever size it is.

I think most men would choose a 14 or 16-size bum over a size 10 bum any day of the week, anyway.

I bet you look and feel fantastic just now. I think for your height size 14 will look healthy and curvy and gorgeous! So be proud of yourself! I'm also a 14 but at 5 feet tall (or that should be small) I feel and am toooo heavy, like Aloha said I'm not happy with myself!

And I think Liz Hurley is completely awful, she thinks looking too skinny makes up for her lack of personality, SOH etc etc. Ignore anything and everything she says!

A size 14 would be too fat for me. I like to be a size 10. If you are tall you obviously have to be larger all over so a size 14 is probably what a size 10 is for me. I base my comfort level on lack of wobble and love handles and my ability to run 5km and do 5 chinups. (which I can't do at the moment ).

Congratulations on loosing the weight emkana, I know how hard it is even to loose a couple of pounds. You should be happy whatever weight you are if it is what you have chosen.

Too thin for me is when you can see ribs from the back which is definately where liz hurley is. Muscle is good, skeleton is not.

here you can see a picture of me with my girls on holiday. I think I look good! (and it's so great to say this after years of being unhappy with my weight - so I hope I don't sound vain/conceited)
