how much is your electric a month?

we have received a letter from Powergen this morning telling us that they are putting our direct debit up to £82 a month (is currently £65)

i simply cannot believe we are using this much electric a quarter........

is this outrageously high? we are on Economy 7 and only use our storage heaters during the coldest months, and run the usual fridge, cooker, lights, computer, television but thats about it. can i really be using this much electric a quarter or could there be a fault on my meter?

was just wondering if i'm being ripped off or if this is really a realistic bill...........

Storage heaters ime, do use a lot of power.

we use about 20 a month wih a key meter - were with britsh gas

£30 a month with Powergen too - and £20 for gas (fire & central heating only). Are you sure you're not hooked up to and supplying the entire street!

£30 a month with goodenergy but our heating and hob are gas. Certainly sounds like a lot but I don't know what Economy 7 or hot water is like on usage. Well worth getting checked out.

I use powercards but know where i stand with them this is why I use them

I put in a max of £50 per month (normally £40 but extra 10 just incase) and I am still in credit when I am due to be paid again

I am 25pound a month direct debit, but I am switching to save even more! Theres a web site that gives you the best gas and electric prices for your Area that you live in. I think the web site is Uswitch or something to that affect.

We put about £35 a month on our meter.

£25 per month.....all mains electric for everything except hot water and heatimg which is oil fired.

We are paying £60 a month, but we have a big bill to pay off and this payment takes that into consideration.

We also have economy 7 storage heaters, no gas at all. I'd enquire about changing suplliers if I were you.

forgot to say our £30 a month DD, we have the computer and TV on all day (plus extra laptop plugged in on the evening), electric oven, fishtank filter, and goodness knows how many other electric items used on a daily basis,

well it would appear there is definitely something amiss...........we have had problems with Powergen previously as regards never sending us an accurate bill. it is ALWAYS estimated and when we finally got it sorted (after stopping our payments) we were on a level pegging. dp is looking into it and we are going to turn loads of unecessary stuff off in the house and read the meter every day this week to see how much it goes up.

the ridiculous thing is we only installed the storage heaters last october (have survived with no heating till then) and our usage went up only marginally during the winter when they were turned on.

We pay quarterly bills & the electric is about £100 give or take.

moschops this happened with us, we were paying £90 a month D/D i kept complaining that it couldnt be right (we live in a 2 bed house with central heating)! in the end i asked them to put a meter in, i am using about £8 a week! god knows what happened, i suggest you get a meter fitted to check what you are using. hth

We dont have any Gas, so through the winter we use about £90 a month electric, and about £40 a month in summer.

How is your water heated? I couldn't work out why my electric had doublked when I moved house since I brought the same appliances with me, until I relaised that my water was being heated by electricoty not gas (and that the thermostat had been on constantly since we moved in as we thought we were controlling it via controls on our gas heating boiler....)

Electric prices have gone up a lot recently & are continuing to rise faster than inflation, so using the same amount will cost more - maybe this is why the dd has gone up?

we are with Powergen and pay £43 a month for gas AND electricity for a 4 bed semi.

obviously we are with the wrong company we pay on average 150 a quarter for electric and about 130 a quarter for gas we are with southern gas.
