I found lots of stuff at tesco without parabens, cheapo and non cheapo shampoos, etc, now of course i will check for these l. sulphate stuff, uffa!

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2010 12:39

I have just finished to watch la Meglio Gioventu' and... I loved it! I really did. Maaaaaaaaasseuseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
(Btw scamy plays the adult son of Matteo and MIrella)

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 27/01/2010 12:52

sputnik can you tell me if the ikea pans are non stick? I am very tempted to ditch all the teflon and replace.

must put on my list Franca.

most of my stuff have not got paraben by luck and no acrylates, prob those you mentioned buch as if I remember correctly they are almost everywhere. Mine are full of benzoates etc etc which do not sound healthy to me anyway. I did think that in order to be free from chemical one must go to natural and organic which yes unfortunately they have not got the same feel to it (prob just getting use to it) and cost much more more ime (buch feel free to proove me wrong on this one).

Mcnultysexgod · 27/01/2010 13:12

Should we start a mnet campaign to get rid of chemicals from cosmetics, surely the power of mnet would do the job?

Mcnultysexgod · 27/01/2010 13:13

My new paraben free shampoo is full of sls, I did notice yesterday that it was incredibly bubbly, took me ages to wash it off. Uffa.

Mcnultysexgod · 27/01/2010 13:18

1greengeneration.elementsintime.com/?p=365

What about this new way of washing your hair? Uffa...

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2010 16:07

Very interesting.

I'm ashamed to say , and I'm a bit shocked by myself, that I don't feel so strongly about avoiding chemicals in my cosmetics ... I sometimes buy organic and natural products just because the bottle looks pretty
I'm an awful human being. I still have to decide to stop smoking occasionally...

Sputnik · 27/01/2010 17:17

The Ikea pans are not really non-stick in the way that teflon is, but they are so thick they don't stick with most stuff. The only thing I have a few problems with is egg, if I make an omlette or something a bit is usually stuck but not enough to stop you getting the omlette out or be a problem to clean afterwards if you soak it a bit.
You are not supposed to ut them in the dishwasher (maybe because of wooden handles) but I do.
My MIL smokes 3 or 4 a day, she was told by her doctor it's no big deal. She is in good health.

Sputnik · 27/01/2010 17:18

Oh, and can we please have a short round of applause for the Poste Italiane who got Franca's The Wire season 2 to me in 48 hours!

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2010 18:49

Is it there already? I can't believe it . Do we actually live in Sweden?

Have fun sputnik , I'll let you know when season 3 is on its way

ps: I obviously now want those ikea casseroles too.

Mcnultysexgod · 27/01/2010 19:47

Only recently started caring about cosmetics and chemicals, family friends and acquaintances with breast cancer and ovarian cancer, nobody close, but still these are women in their 50s with young families, so shitting myself a bit. I think a few fags a day don't matter, but i also think that it is good to avoid the chemicals that are avoidable, ain't gonna wash my hair with baking soda and vinegar, though, I mean, i have no time as it is.

Mcnultysexgod · 27/01/2010 19:48
Sputnik · 27/01/2010 19:57

That's sad McNulty.
I think the biggest risk factor for cancer is genetics (or anyway that's what the guy who sold us our last house who was a cancer specialist, and chain smoker, told us). Which is not to day you souldn't avoid known carcinogens (and get checked regularly).

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2010 20:15

Oh sorry to hear about your acquaintances mcnulty, it's very sad indeed.

Mmmm I wonder if in fact bicarbonato and vinegar could help my frizzy hair... Actually, I bought a fantastic hair drier with punti dell'esselunga which works wonders.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 27/01/2010 21:20

I think I might get them Sputnik. If they are anything like the casserole dish I have they are good. Things do not stick in it but I understand what you mean by not being the same.

I agree it is probably mostly genetical but I cannot help but thinking that all the chemical, radiation, man made fiber and product in general might contribute to some illnesses. Having said that in previous centuries the life expectancy was far far lower so really not sure we are worse off. Having said that I will try to limit where I can but will not go the full way.

Are we going to talk about mobile masts? Has anybody got some info on that scare?

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2010 21:44

what are mobile masts?

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2010 21:46

ahhhh, do you mean ripetitori?

Bucharest · 28/01/2010 08:27

Well, you wouldn't get me living near one. But I don't, so I don't tend to think about them. There is a scuola media and elementare right next to one of those "areas" with loads of scary looking electrical huge "things" the other side of town, and I always think I would not want my child in those schools. (Childhood leukemia has been shown to be higher in areas with those pylony things)

Deodorant is the baddie when it comes to breast cancer. You need it without aluminium. Ditto the pans while we're on the subject.

I do agree that a lot of it seems to be genetic. we have no instances of cancer in my side of the family, but 2 of dp's sisters have, thankfully, recovered, from it, one leukemia and one breast cancer at 33. My family all drop dead from heart attacks as we are all lardy.

Started the PON at the school the other day. The other madrelingua, poverina, is of Asian origin, though born and brought up in London. Can you imagine the faces of the other teachers when she walked in? You probably can't believe just how vergognoso it actually was, they didn't even try to be subtle, it was just (loudly) "Ma, e' indiana!!" Then the old fart preside says "lei e' originaria di??????" to which she replies "Londra" and then the preside told the Italian teacher that she obviously didn't understand Italian.

Sputnik · 28/01/2010 10:34

That really is shocking, but unfortunatly not really surprising. There is still a lot of ignorance to overcome here, when I was changinging my residence I was asked "are you sure your husband is Italian?" (given his arabic surname). When I said, yes he was born here in Rome, "ah but it's not necessarily the same thing is it", as if I didn't know the nationality of my own husband ffs.

I wouldn't want to live near a phone mast either, and we rejected 2 quite nice flats as they were too close to massive power lines.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 28/01/2010 11:37

Buch but not surprising unfortunately!!!

The electric masts piloni are one thing but the mobile masts are different, much much smaller and everywhere, they are usually on top of buildings and look like rectangular microfoni. Very difficult to be far away from them if you live in a city it seems to me.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 28/01/2010 12:01

I have been wasting time checking all the health scares: aluminium pans are not good, so are cast iron one too apparently, copper is a no no, mobile masts will kill you, so are the Enumbers and the chemicals in deodorants, and toiletries. Then there's the acid rain, the polluted water, the pollution in the air and sea, the global warming, the sun, the wall paint, the MDF, the composit woods, the radiation when you fly on an aeroplane and from all the elettrical appliances, the microwave, the Xrays, the medicines etc etc

Comclusion to me is: wherever you look something is dangerous. We can try to avoid some risk and limit others but this is the world we live in and this is the price to pay for all its pluses.

Enough scary thoughts for me on this subject. Sara' quel che sara'.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 28/01/2010 12:22

did you enjoy it. I love it!

hmm want gorgonzola too....

had terrible morning so far: went to wake minipippi and she was covered in vomit. Had to wash her hair and all. While taking her to the bedroom to dress her I slammed the door very hard in a hurry on her fingers , then while she was wailing I discovered she had pooed all over her pj and her back.

Honestly between the screams from her and me to bigpippi not to put her foot on the soiled discarded clothes, the stench and the way she looked: snotty, bleeding, covered in poo and vomitI wouldn;t have been surprised for SS to scream neglet and take her away. Poverina!!!!

All this before 8am!!

Francagoestohollywood · 28/01/2010 12:33

Yes, I really enjoyed it, I think I'll go for it!

Oh Pippi, what a start you had this morning ! How's minipippi now?
If this is any consolation, ds had one of his nights... he woke up at 3 as he needed a wee and then couldn't go back to sleep for what seemed ages... I find it incredibly difficult to fall back to sleep if I'm waken up so early in the morning, so basically I was awake until 5.00sh. .
