Here we are then ........

OP posts:
BucharestYeMerryMNers · 08/01/2010 14:40

I think so, from what I can gather from an OP post on about page 37! She starts to say "look at you all rising to the bait, and here I am, just bored at home with my ill 5 yr old".

Truly weird really.

Camomilla · 08/01/2010 14:42

god, I had missed that bit about the 55kg! I should be stoned to death right now, then! (actually, how is it that as soon as s.one is (naturally, not through stupid dieting) thin, it's ok to slag them off for being unhealthy and oh-must-be anorexic? there was a thread on keira knightly, which I don't particularly like as an terrible actress, but oh, she's ill because she's thin )

yes, jeans are a nightmare, but when you find a make that fits, then normally most of their models will fit.

SG, how are you feeling?

I put on a lot in the first year I was here, but then I worked at the golden arches, followed by posh belgian patisserie (and then a lot of comfort eating)... once I moved to a 3rd floor flat with no lift, it all went very quickly. But I still prefer my local latteria's butter to salty english one, actually, italian creamy butter on fresh bread, salty english one on toast with marmite....

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/01/2010 14:43

My flight is delayed so i read through a few pages... Tbh the thread was delirante but BA's op was idiotic, or at the very least highly decontextualised. And fwiw if my parents had weighed me as a teenager i woukd have died... Bon, i am hugely overweight so should ahut up...

Mcnultysexgod · 08/01/2010 14:46

apparently, didn't get that far...

trapped at home all day, have ignored dd, read the guardian ,repubblica, other websites for exhibitions, done mnet, emailed....god, and one of my new year resolutions was to spend less time reading stuff online and read more books, go out more .

Hi Buch, i would love to be in puglia, cannot take dd out as pram doesnt work in the snow and it is a pain, so feel stuck, better do some chores, i am no stepford though.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 14:56

Actually, it sounds like you had a very productive morning Bum .

Welcome back Bucharest! I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I'm a bit of Puglia's mild weather. It's been raining since yesterday night here and freezing. But not enough cold for it to be snowing. Damn!

All this talk about food and weight pushed me to make some muffins, which are now standing in the oven and will be ready in 10 mins to appease my dc's appetite (they are eating like teenagers at the moment).

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 14:56

Camo, yes, I agree with you.

Mcnultysexgod · 08/01/2010 15:02

Oh, thank you franca! I feel so much better. I will carry on being productive then.

Can you believe it that i never ever make cakes without ds? The idea being that i am not going to mess up my time to myself to cook.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 15:12

My children are playing Monopoly Junior, and I was making muffins. I am not keen at baking with kids, it brings out the control freak in me.

Mcnultysexgod · 08/01/2010 15:15

Actuallly, I remember you saying that. You are the one who prefers them to mess up the bath!

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 16:21

Yes ! Actually, they don't mess it up, they are very good at cleaning, lots of olio di gomito!

minervaitalica · 08/01/2010 16:35

Lol at kids being good at cleaning Franca - I may try to instil that into DD given my utter lack of ability/enthusiasm with cleaning...

I think we should have a mcNulty MN Little Italy fan club - given the power of MN, we may even get a webchat (given that politicians are coming from left right and centre to talk to us, it's about time we get someone interesting instead...).

On a sour note, my DH has been caught speeding and has had his licence taken away for a month. He claims he had not seen the reduced speed limit of 80 on that stretch of the motorway, which I can kind of believe as he is very meticulous when driving and is the opposite of reckless (very British in that). He is gutted as that doubles his commuting time for next month, and I have to become taxi driver. Hmph. I HATE driving.

Mcnultysexgod · 08/01/2010 17:20

I would get a cleaner if I were you, MI.

What a palaver for you, have you started your job yet?

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 17:32

Go for it Minerva , children love cleaning and love the responsibility.

What a pain for your dh (and you).

SuiGeneris · 08/01/2010 19:16

Oh, Minerva, what a pain! I hate driving too, so sympathise. Don't know what we would do if DH lost his licence. Fortunately he commutes by tube...

Camo: no developments here, just backache, but it could easily be the fact that I have spent the last 2.5 hours at the computer, drawing up a 2010 budget to work out how much I can contribute to my pension in this tax year, as our financial adviser has pointed out that my pension pot is smaller than my DH's, but women live longer, etc. And after that we spoke to a life assurance broker- am about to become officially unemployed, so need stand-alone life assurance... Basically I have spent the afternoon on happy thoughts related to "what happens to DH and child if I die or cannot get back in the job market at the right time/level".

To add to the general joy of the day, I discovered earlier this week that there had been fraud on one of my bank accounts, which was drained, so now need to deal with that, as well as get my tax return done before the baby arrives. And gently tell the hospital that scheduling a mole removal for the day after my due date is a tad optimistic...

Do you think sorting out one's finances/tax counts as nesting instinct?

Franca: how were the muffins? I toyed with the idea when I saw your post earlier, but we still have too much chocolate from Christmas, so won't make any more cakes. I do wish people would at least give us nice chocolate- instead most of it is white (not milk chocolate, the white vanilla flavoured stuff) which I detest, so DH ends up eating it all. Every year I try to make polite noises to ILs that I am not a big chocolate person, so would happily do without (they give us lots of presents- too many IMO- and the little choc I eat is black) but maybe I have been too subtle, as they keep getting us both white choc...

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 19:30

SG, I'm impressed by your organization. When do you think you'll be back to work?

Sympathies re the white chocolate, I find it inedible. Only plain choc here as well.

The muffins were really nice, but dd took six of them to her friend's this afternoon (and I forgot to get the tapper back, damn!!!). They are really easy to make, I found the recipe on the back of the Cacao amaro Perugina!

SuiGeneris · 08/01/2010 20:06

Not sure about when I will go back to work. The plan is to breast-feed for 6+ months and I would like to have some time on the beach and with my family in the summer, so ideally I would not start work before September at the earliest. The other consideration is that 8 months (which is what the baby will be then) seems a bit young to go to nursery, so either a find a job and a nanny or I wait and go back in January. But who knows?

I must admit I am worried about going back to work. Up to now career has gone well, progressed quickly etc and I wonder if I will be able to go back at the same level or if people will take one look at me and think "married mother-of-one in her mid-thirties, if we hire her she'll just go on maternity leave on us again". I will also be less able, I guess, to travel at no notice, stay late, etc, so maybe will need to look at different (less interesting) options, which are likely to be less well compensated. And I do want to go back... DH is being lovely about it all, very encouraging, sure I will get back in a better position than my last (which was already quite good- I was the only woman and about 10 years younger than my peers)... And DH is keen to consider going part-time himself, so that perhaps we end up doing 9 days a fortnight each.... But before that happens I need to find a new employer....

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 21:04

It sounds very sensible, I think. 9 days out of 14 would be really good, wouldn't it. Obviously, having a scolapasta memory, I can't remember what field you work in ...

I've been organizing an imaginary trip to Mauritius for the last 30 mins, dreaming of sunshine, clear blue sea and gorgeous food... I'd better run away from the computer... time to indulge my mcnulty obsession methinks.

Sputnik · 08/01/2010 22:08

From Mauritius to Baltimore......

And welcome back Buch

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 22:11

Have watched first ep of season 3. The casting director is a genious.

Penthesileia · 08/01/2010 22:27

Hey peeps.

Still only watched season 1...

Do you think it is against the spirit of my other thread to buy the remaining series for myself?

Penthesileia · 08/01/2010 22:31

Sorry about your holiday, btw, Rosa.

SG: you should be optimistic - if your career (don't know your field) has progressed quickly, and you are demonstrably younger than your colleagues, then you are clearly very good at your job, and that being so, whether you have family or not should not matter.

Hey Buch.

Bum & Pippi - impressed by your fitness intentions.

franca - I love swimming, but find it such a major pain in the arse what with all the being wet, etc. I need my own pool. That would do it.

Sputnik · 08/01/2010 22:39

Penthe, not unless you intend to wear them.

Penthesileia · 08/01/2010 22:42

5 seasons, right?

One over each boob, one over each arse cheek, and another over my (what did we decide was the acceptable, not too babyish term for this, btw?)?

Ta-da. What an outfit.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2010 22:56

! Surely you need the other 4 seasons for a work project?

Penth, I love swimming too. But I hate drying my unruly hair. And I'd need constant waxing.
Plus, I like swimming in the sea more than swimming pool
