  1. Encyclopaedia Britannica (anything else would drive you crazy by the twelfth read)
2. 3.

Hmm, have to think harder about the other two

1 The Quincunx - I've read it twice and still can't work it out, so it would give me a chance to try to understand how that last line can possible be right

2 Betty Blue - watching Zorg would fulfil any sexual needs, and the music would double as a extra CD. It would have to be the Directors cut though - not just because I'm pretentious but because the extra 1/2 hour woudl fill more time

3 Tapestry by Carole King. Finally on a desert island I could sing along to my hearts content without people thinking I was being murdered.

wickedstepmother · 07/06/2003 07:25

Hmmm, harder than it looks this one...

  1. My DD's baby record book - it has pics and record of all her special moments + other family photos

  2. As Good as it Gets (Jack Nichoson & Helen Hunt) - I've watched it countless times and still love it.

  3. Am undecided on CD as yet ....

Finbar · 07/06/2003 09:05

This is great but soooo hard!
I'll have a (first) go but might come back later and change everything (would that be cheating?)

  1. The Charterhouse of Parma (Stendhal).. loved it since I was 13, still in lurve with the hero.. (do I need to grow up? Nah!)
  2. The Seven Year Itch (fantastically funny, will never age)
  3. The Brandenburg Concertos (3 CDs....always lifts my spirit) Hope everyone has a go at this, brilliant idea!!
XAusted · 07/06/2003 20:14
  1. I started reading Vikram Seth's "A Suitable Boy" in April 2002. To date I have reached page 264 so I have 1,210 pages to go. It's a great book but sooooooo long that I keep stopping to read something else. So I'll have to take it to my island to finish it.
  1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (or Life of Brian, not sure).

  2. Recurring Dream - The Very Best of Crowded House.

Marina · 07/06/2003 20:23

Brilliant idea for a thread, October!

  1. Very hard to choose but probably Donna Tartt's The Secret History.
  2. Day for Night - if I had to choose just one of Francois Truffaut's films
  3. Like Finbar, The Kick Inside (no intention of switching to Alanis).

Mmmm, book would have to be To Kill a Mockingbird.
Film, It's a Wonderful Life.
CD, The River - Bruuuuuce!

Can I cheat and take a second book? TCLBB - but only to use a tinder to start the fire off!
