bollox - wrong thread- I'll post this in the right place now!

Bobbins · 06/06/2003 19:53

Thanks for missing me Marina, I've been missing you rabble too, but the learning the ropes in the new job has been my priority...new girl...eugh. I'll post on the original 'new job starts Monday' to give an update.....although it started on a Tuesday...dingbat moi!

As for all this business, I think zzchat is most appropriate. I wish there didn't have to be an annex, I love chatting, but it looks it's taking over somewhat. Although I feel sure Mumsnet can still serve the functions it has for me during this last year though.

Jimjams · 06/06/2003 19:54

oh no that was the right thread- said I was tired- now I'm totally confused!

Bobbins · 06/06/2003 19:56

Miss you guys! x

SamboM · 06/06/2003 21:11

Oh thank god you're back Rhubarb. Hope you saw my post yesterday, didn't mean to offend you.

jasper · 06/06/2003 22:11

Tinker, great idea about deleting the chat threads after 24 hrs.We don't want all that riff raff banter being recorded for any longer than necessary

pupuce · 06/06/2003 22:17

Totally agree with you Tinker and Jasper.

Bobbins · 06/06/2003 22:23

A very good idea, but being serious for a millisecond, this would involve a judgement call about what is chat and what is not chat. I think the beetter alternative is inculcating the cahtters into more serious and tentative approach to posting, or in other words;dullnes. Yes, that is the way.

It shall (should) be done.

GeorginaA · 06/06/2003 22:35

The other alternative (although I assume this idea has been done to death at some point) is to put a realtime chatroom on the site which doesn't get stored. That way chatters get their fix, and those who like the more serious stuff can carry on oblivious. I'm assuming though that there's a good reason why that hasn't been implemented or I'm missing a really obvious flaw.

Marina · 07/06/2003 15:53

I've never used a chatroom, GeorginaA, but wonder if it's to do with it having to be constantly moderated on a real-time basis? So maybe the Mumsnet team don't have the capacity...? Maybe someone who knows more about these things can enlighten us.

Just come back from a weekend away, what a lot of agro seems to have been going on !

Am I alone in the way I search for new comments ?

I almost always use the 'search for messages since I last looked' option.

Ok, like tonight it means I get confronted with '175 threads have new messages' but it's unusual for me to be away from Mumsnet for 4 days (OK I'm an addict..) and I would use a different search if I'd been away for a fortnight.

I get to scan topics very quickly and the only downside is if I search (like tonight) and I've not got time to go through all the headers so I then just re-search for the last 24 hours next time I'm here.

aloha · 08/06/2003 22:22

Oh Bobbins... you are so right. Dullness is so boss, hip, nasty, or whatever the young people say these days. I've spend a lovely day poking round other people's gardens courtesy of the National Gardens Scheme and I think dullness is definitely the way to go, courtesy-wise.

xx
