I vote for Codswallop. But only if she makes me a prefect and gives me some REAL POWER, like being biscuit monitor (no, M2T, you can't have one unless you ask NICELY)

This whole place has gone mad. MAD I tell you. I mean did anyone really think this was a serious thread? I mean no one voted for me except the other inhabitants of the blue cratered moon. Pah!

Don't spoil a fun thread!

codswallop · 04/06/2003 20:27

(chants) go soupy go soupy. It had me Rofl - after all I have voted in three people based soley on bribery

scoobysnax · 04/06/2003 20:31

Yes, let's delete everything, then fall on our swords....
WHAT ON EARTH IS OFFENSIVE ON THIS ONE, OH SLAVES TO CENSORSHIP?

Tortington · 04/06/2003 20:34

i think intention is the key

i have no doubt that anyone deliberaly thought "i will set up a thread which will make people feel unpopular or uneasy and i will do it on purpose cos am a nasty nasty little mumsnetter"

i see the humour and my opinion (which i am entitled to) is that it is bad taste.

and honestly the argument dont read it then really isnt an argument but rather another way of saying bog off and leave us to carry on - well i will not.

SoupDragon · 04/06/2003 20:38

No, I think "if you don't like it don't read it" is perfectly valid. Do you deliberately watch TV programmes you don't like?

Of course you're entitled to your opinion but by the same token, the posters who find this funny are entitled to theirs. It's not offending anyone at all. Except M2T who flounced off after cheating.

Surely the "How dodgy are you" thread is in much poorer taste. Competing to see who's committed the most crimes? How bad is that?!

wiltshirelass · 04/06/2003 20:39

oh my goodness, I disappear for a couple of hours and the world has gone MAD on my return! a more trivial, uncontentious, silly thread I cannot imagine (and I should know, I started it)... if you are too mature to find this funny, then go post on another thread. maybe one about PTAs or boards of governors or something.

OP posts:
codswallop · 04/06/2003 20:40

HEY! Now I am offended - I am a governor and so is Finbar - we are So grown up and dont snigger throughout meetings...

SoupDragon · 04/06/2003 20:41

Ooooh "Iiiiiii'm a governor!" Get you!

codswallop · 04/06/2003 20:42

arent you Soupster? Comment was tongue in cheek. Its wuite good for gossip retrieval purposes

SoupDragon · 04/06/2003 20:44

Ahh... My children aren't old enough for me to be a governer yet Besides, I've had my fill of committees from the work I've done for a well known charity.

codswallop · 04/06/2003 20:45

I imagine you with school y kids. Hmm. funny.

SoupDragon · 04/06/2003 20:50

OMG! I come across as being old enough to have school age children. Sob! I'm off to drown my sorrows in a hot bath with a glass of something cold...

Tortington · 04/06/2003 20:55

dont think the tv is a good example but i see what you are saying. yes i could boycot this thread but i felt uneasy that this thread even existed and wanted to state my opinion ( maybe as i would write to points of view if the BBC f*cked me off)- thanks for accepting it and politley disagreeing and putting accross such a thoughful counter argument.

why must you be right? why cant other people have an opinion and state it without feeling like they are having their teeth kicked in with hob nailed boots which have stepped in shit?

maybe another way of answering may be - sorry its offensive it wasnt intentional at all - can see where your coming from etc
rather than a prevailing " its a joke you humourless deficient middleaged old cow" offensive attitude.

codswallop · 04/06/2003 20:56

age?

Tortington · 04/06/2003 20:58

quite right codswallop i picked up on "too mature to find this funny" age has nothing to do with being mature

thank you for pointing that out - take it the rest is correst then?

codswallop · 04/06/2003 21:00

good night

SoupDragon · 04/06/2003 21:02

Um... because you didn't say "Oooh, I'm terribly sorry but I find this makes me a little uncomfortable"? And then someone else waded in and said it should be deleted - now if that isn't assuming that they're right and everyone else is wrong I don't know what is.

And I'll have you know my boots aren't hobnails, they're pink fluffy bunny slippers and they're certainly not covered in s**t.

Tortington · 04/06/2003 21:04

just trying to back up my argument about how everone is entitled to an opinion

Tortington · 04/06/2003 21:04

like ur boots btw

wiltshirelass · 04/06/2003 21:05

oh, please!
custardo, may I recommend a nice hot bath to relieve the stresses of the day. I will also take my own advice on that, and while doing so shall ponder what on earth on this thread makes anyone think they have had their "teeth kicked in with hob nailed boots which have stepped in shit". hmmmmm.

OP posts:
Ghosty · 04/06/2003 21:08

Oh dear ....

SoupDragon · 04/06/2003 21:09

And, tbh, I couldn't say "I see where you're coming from" because I don't. I genuinely don't see how anyone could have taken this seriously. I'm completely bewildered.

AppleCrumble · 04/06/2003 21:11

I vote for Custardo!

willow2 · 04/06/2003 22:07

well I scored quite highly in the how dodgy are you thread so I could be vice prefect.

seeya · 04/06/2003 22:34

This is getting nasty ( again ) I'm off. Changed my name so I don't get a load of "dont leave" comments. Think it's all rather sad that opinions cannot be viewed without folk being pounced on. May you battle amongst yourselves
